IPOH: It was his 20th birthday but lorry driver Wan Mohd Farhan Khairuddin did not get to blow any candles.

Instead, the son of a policeman was slapped with a RM1,000 fine for having sex with an Indonesian prostitute.

Magistrate Teoh Chin Chong also yesterday ordered Wan Mohd Farhan to spend a month in jail if he failed to pay the fine.

Last month, Wan Mohd Farhan had pleaded guilty to having sexual intercourse with 23-year-old Kesy Manda and abetting her in promoting prostitution at 4pm on March 3.

According to several lawyers, this was a rare case as in most cases only those soliciting for immoral purposes were brought to court.

On March 3, a team of policemen had raided a hotel in Jalan CM Yusuf. When police arrived, an alarm went off at the hotel to warn those involved in prostitution activities.

While others tried to escape, Wan Mohd Farhan was caught in flagrante delicto with Kesy in a room.

When asked by Teoh why he had sought the services of a prostitute, Wan Mohd Farhan remained silent. He later denied frequenting prostitutes.

At the same court, Teoh sentenced Kesy to four months’ jail from the date of her arrest.

She had on March 9 pleaded guilty to soliciting for the purpose of prostitution at the same time and place.

“It was my second day at work,” she said during mitigation.

Asked who had introduced her to the “job”, Kesy told the court she had found it on her own.

She later admitted to having served two months’ in jail for entering the country without a permit and possession of a fake identity card in 2004.

I dunno what J81 is disagreeing about. Firstly the report he copied is about a drug raid- a slightly different case but similar to cheonging. I have experienced one of those before- yes, its fun to be on a cattle truck but total waste of time.
Wasn't J81 the one who use to tell us not to worry about visiting Pub Koreks as he mentioned that patrons at Tong Lock Bar raids were released without questioning? Why the contradiction now?
Anyhow my statement concurs with J81 point of view. In the land of Malaysia Boleh-MIB can do anything and have a upper hand especially if you don't know the law. They may be as ignorant(or play ignorant) about the law as you unless/until you can point that out ot them.
As far as I know they can detain you for 24 hrs with any reason for questioning. And a further few days 5 days if I'm not wrong if you are a suspect. But then they must follow some procedure- otherwise this may blow up in their face if the case goes public (but can you afford that) . In short if they want to do something to you there are many ways they can do it-like the recent case of Alantuya.

Should you be caught in a police raid with your pants on, don't worry, you are safe, but still there's a possibility of you been invited to the police station to make up for the numbers. i need to bring up something that has been bothering many young malaysians for a long time. the police, in a somewhat futile effort to show that they’re doing their job, have for years been constantly raiding nightspots to find a small number of drug users.

imagine going out on a friday night to hang out with friends, have some drinks and a dance. the police raiding party, which would suddenly appear in force, will rudely make you stop what you’re doing.

the music would be stopped and all lights would come on. and then your ics are taken away and you’re herded like sheep into the toilets and forced to [CodeWord134] into a test tube so they can tell whether or not you use drugs. for the next frustrating few hours, you’re penned in and can’t leave until the police finish what they’re there for. those that are tested positive for any illegal drugs are hauled away in trucks (although sometimes all are taken away for tests at the station).

and don’t expect the police to be remotely polite to anyone, irrespective of innocence. you’re made to feel like a criminal just for being there. this might be the easy way out for the police to fill their ‘raid quotas’ but it’s a waste of taxpayers money and police resources. in most cases, only a tiny percentage of those tested are drug users.

the star reported some time back that an astounding 1,000 people were rounded up from penang’s gurney drive’s nightspots and shipped in trucks to the station for [CodeWord109] tests. this logistical nightmare lasted for four whole hours and surprise, 990 tested negative. basically, only 1% tested positive. an innocent victim almost missed her own wedding because of that raid, not to mention the mental and physical torture on hundreds of others. suhakam should really look into this matter.

it’s actually happening all the time. statistics from newspaper articles on raids on licenced nightclubs show that over 90 percent of their patrons are innocent. sometimes the number tested positive are less than the size of the raiding team. what kind of policing is this? it took four hours, 30 officers and1,000 members of the public for the police to find 10 users?

which give rise to an important question - do the police have the right to arrest you in a public area, even if you’re innocent, just so they can test your [CodeWord109]? and why raid nightspots? the police would get the same or a better hit rate if they arrested patrons at mamak restaurants or stopped a public bus. it’s just as random.

it’s silly to attack licenced nightspots and victimise legitimate businesses and customers. even innocent patrons stop going as they’re intimidated by the raids and the subsequent inconvenience. many feel offended that the police assume everyone there is on drugs.

i have experienced a raid and know many victims of raids. the way the police behave frightens them into submission, and any rights are either forgotten or ignored, allowing the abuse of power. everyone is presumed guilty until proven otherwise. is there so little respect for the youth of this nation?

here’s a tip to the police narcotics unit - there should be a higher number of dealers arrested instead of users. otherwise, the raids can go on until eternity with no benefit to the country. the igp should put an end to this ineffective practice immediately.

over the years, many birthday parties, farewells, reunions or just simple social outings have been rudely hijacked by these silly operations. it’s not only irritating but extremely disrespectful of the public’s right to relax at a place of our choice after a long week.

to the police - search for your young drug users (or better still drug dealers) with the right investigative methods, at the appropriate places.

personally i haven't been caught by mib while cheonging. so i cannot comment much. but much have been discussed in mam*kspec**l.
all i know is what will happen depends on they type and purpose of raid, where you are and whether you are caught red handed. usually they are out to get the other side and not the customers. then the customers are asked to sit down calmly while they conduct their checking and maybe ask to see your ic before asking you to leave the premise immedeately. in this case the customers are the bystanders or witness unless thay suspect you enough for a [CodeWord109] test. sometimes they may ask you to go downtown to provide your statement but they do not have the right to detain you unless they tell you the charge and read your rights.
if you are caught with your pants down. if it is a mib raid then you may be charged or detained for questioning. but then the act is hard to proove unless they can prove that money has changed hands. so far i know that that is very rare. usually they will go after the wl but will detain you until your employer or your hm (if you are married) picks you up.
if you are caught with a nl during a religious raid (which may also join in the raid) then your may be charged and fined under a syariah court for close proximity and may be forced to marry the nl.
