    Surprising, no reports

The worlds oldest vocation is mongering and the very fact that North Korea is deemed to have many who are below the poverty line is all the more reason that the vocation must be prevalent there. Or is the education level so low that they do not have internet there or they do not know English to post their experiences.

Looks like the "Dear Leader" is already a member of the ISG. He hasn't posted any trip reports yet, though:

I cannot begin to imagine, but I would certainly get in line for a visit.

If you want North Korean women then you're better off looking in north-east China. Check out the Beijing, Dandong, Shenyang and threads from other cities in that area.
The reasons behind the number of Koreans in that area are two-fold: There were a lot of ethnic Koreans in the north-east anyway (Chao xian zu) as a result of the various wars and changes in the border over the centuries. The other reason is the number of refugees who escape from the DPRK. The river on the border between the DPRK and China freezes over in winter so many refugees leave then and seek refuge with the ethnic Koreans or try and make their way south to get across the border to a south-east Asian country where they can seek refugee status.

No he's not, he is just an evil sociopath, all he wants is to drink his expensive French Cognac (reportedly worlds largest importer of Hennessy) and enjoy his "pleasure team" of North Korean ballerinas while the people are starving.

    Read this for more details:
    http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Korea/FI02Dg01.html

"Kim's appetite for exotic food and fine alcohol is surpassed only by his appetite for female flesh, an indulgence that led him to Koh Young-hee, formerly a dancer in one of Kim's many "pleasure teams", groups of stunningly attractive girls trained in providing for his every desire. Divided into three broad categories, the women provide "satisfaction", "happiness", and "dancing and singing"."

I can second that, and they mostly appear so "untouched" compared to Chinese girls.

Maybe if the Dear L. goes the way of his daddy things will open up? You know if North Korea was semi-open like China is now, how cheap pussy would be there, considering the standard of living and average income levels of the populace?!

    DPRK, Paradies on Planet Earth

DPRK, "Paradies" as self descrided by North Koreans - or better said, they get educated that outside DPRK is hell, is from my point anything else than a location to monger. You can not unless there are some pre-conditions.

Access to DPRK and allowed to stay there have following people:

    a) Tourists
    b) NGO staff
    c) Embassy staff
    d) Biz staff for biz in or out DPRK

    ad a) Tourist
This is something what I can not figure out why people are paying a bundle of money to go there. Maybe it's the magic of having a DPRK visa in the passport or the goal to get to know this country. Last thing you will not be able, they show you their show based on their ideology...nothing more. But, that's not topic of this forum...
You are under observation by your guides and other people. You don't see or feel this, but it is fact. No change to get into touch with "real" locals beside going shopping with your guide or "shown" people.

No chance to monger...unless you do it the hard way, try it and will leave the country faster as you came into.

    b) NGO staff

I worked for one in DPRK for one year. We all were under observation, observed by our counterparts and others. We could move freely in Pyongyang and Nampo, but we often were asked "Who was with car xxx yesterday at yyy?" next day.

No chance to get into any closer contact with local girls. Our "Health Center" interior mainly were (and still are) hidden cams and they showed up when we came to close with one...
So, when you were lucky and found an attractive one within the NGO community, you could get what you wanted during your stay in paradies.

Otherwise you left paradies regularly for R&R, to Dandong (border city in China), Beijing or Thailand, if your NGO pay for it.

    c) Embassy staff

There are embassies from Europe, many African countries and of course all varities of "Axis of Evil" countries. Impressive which varity of biz-cards you can collect there..."Military Attache of Iran, ... of Pakistan" and so on.

The staff of european embassies regularly left country to China (Beijing) or somewhere else. I only can imagine, that staff of "brother" countries, like Russia, China and from those countries doing big biz with DPRK (military biz) maybe have access to "original" DPRK SW. There were some rumors about it, but dealing with rumors were one of our daily duties.

    d) Biz staff for biz in or out DPRK

Now, we are coming to the more interesting group. When you do biz with DPRK, selling or buying, and be invited from the regime, then the chance to get a "real" local SW is high, very high depending on kind of biz. When you buy from DPRK the chance is higher, because they want your money.

Doing biz can be done from China (Dandong) or started with one of their embassies around this globe. Especially when you do biz from China/Dandong and you are valuable biz partner, the chance to be invited is not bad when not having an US or South Korean passport.

    Summary:

During my stay I never saw any chance to monger. My counterpart was always telling me that it is possible, but everything is possible from their point of view until you request it.

But, there are real beauties in DPRK. I saw less in Pyongyang, than on the countryside...but...far, far away from any touch. During my countriside visits I sometime got the impression, that my counterpart and driver enjoy the local "fruits" and leaving me alone in the dark, cold hotel.

Sorry, Jim, but this information is about 11 years out of date. The US government's ban on travel to DPRK was lifted in 1995. It is the DPRK government that won't allow Americans to visit, except for the mass games every few years. I was there last October, along with about 100 other Americans, including Intransit, so I know what I'm talking about. The DPRK does not stamp passports at all, but even if they did, there would be no problem when re-entering the US. It's perfectly legal.

I’ve read that it would cost a Chinese man between 1,000 to 3,000 Yuan for a North Korean bride. Most men were Chinese–Korean farmers who lived in remote areas and had a hard time finding a mate. But since the Chinese government would not recognize such marriage, they would always live in fear. This was in a research article published by one of those women organizations or similar NGO. I believe the date of the article was 2004/2005.

In 1986 (I think), China signed an agreement to help North Korea in securing and controlling the border and they have stood by it so far. They monitor the boarder cities very closely. I remember reading that the Chinese government had no mercy and would not tolerate illegal emigrants of North Korea. They would be deported immediately.

What do you guys know about wife brokers?

I have heard that there are brokers that bring women to China from North Korea, but the question is: "How?"

Another question is: "What is the market price for a bride?" There seem to be wildly varying opinions as to what the price should be.

Please PM me if you have any information. I might be interested.

The interesting thing is that in Hong Kong, these mistakes are extremely rare. HKers are quick to pick out Japanese, Koreans, Thais, Filipinas, and Chinese mainlanders, which may bolster the argument that it's about experience with various Asians, not some inherent racial ferreting sense.
Thanks for giving the excellent example..I was born in HK, grew up in the states and traveled/lived throughout Asia for last 30 yrs. My wife is from Taiwan and when we married, couldn't tell difference, but after about 10 yrs living in Asia now pretty good at telling the difference.
