Yes you can travel to North Korea from China. Go to the N.Korean embassy in Peking, they will direct you to their state owned travel agency, then you can travel either bay train or by air (with Air Korio) to Pyongyang. I guess they organize group tours that you have to join. Don't expect to travel alone. So not very goog for tac-tac / boom-boom.

Simply action is the best in Yanji, because it's biggest city. But price is high due to South Koreans.
