Egy is right and this goes for all the countries in the Gulf area, too. There are no laundromats. Arabs that have enough money would not dream of washing their own laundry- so you can find laundries and dry cleaners, but not coin-operated washing machines. If they can't afford to go to the laundries then they are washing their own clothes at home in the sink, or they have their maid do it for them.

That said, you are absolutely right the hotels will rip you off big time. Just ask someone at the front desk or the concierge where the nearest laundry is and go there. Or go out for a walk until you find one. Still a bit expensive but much cheaper than using the hotel.

Don't think there are vending machine laundry machines here -- this isn't Thailand -- the concept of using coins in a vendine machine here is unheard of and wouldn't work with the mentality of the Egyptians.

Just do them in Road 9 in Maadi and pay the rip-off prices that even I as a local have to pay.

I don't think I've ever had a Thai girl for less than 1000 baht (well, except for the dozens I got for free). I've found Filipinas for 500 pesos but that's not common (of course I've had dozens of them for free, too). I'm really not sure what happened with my lady friend from Goudy Jam. I really don't think that normally the girls have sex with customers, she just liked me.
