My last vacation to CR included an overnight at the CrownPlaza, followed by a few days at Los Suenos Marriott (Jaco) and then a Marriott near the airport in SJ, and no Chicas. Are there reliable escort services in which you can arrange for someone to visit an upscale hotel rather than going to a bar? I read warnings here that arrangements in advance for extended or overnight visits are risky. I am visiting the weekend of Oct 8th and will post a report even if I strike out. All advice welcome.

Many independent girls(at the Del Rey, Key Largo, and Sportsmans) will take Colones, even if they quote the price in US. I have found that the Colombianas have been less willing to take Colones and prefer dollars. Colones can be used to pay bar and restaurant bills whereever you will go. Colones can be withdrawn from ATMs at the airport, the INS building which is down the block from the SL or the Banco de Costa Rica, down the block from the Kel Largo, across from the Morazon hotel. There will be small fee, usually a small percentage of the amount you withdraw, plus whatever your bank charges as a foreign currency/ATM fee. Good places to exchange dollars into Colones are the 2nd floor of the airport(not the first floor), the Sportsman's Lodge and Del Rey (490-500 Colones per dollar Labor Day Weekend). To exchange at the airport go through immigration, go past the baggage claim and exit towards the taxi stands. Walk across the street, go up the escalator and enter into the departure area. Make a right and walk past the departure tax stands and you will see a small booth for Banco De Costa Rica. Avoid the exchange booths on the first floor of the airport as you will not get a good rate. The ATM at the Del Rey gives US currency up to $200 per transaction and does not charge a fee, although your bank may. The Banco De Costa Rica across from the Hotel Morazon also gives US currency.

Costa Rica Blush has published a comprehensive mongering guide, which can be obtaind for a fee($19.00 when I bought it about 5 months ago).

Also wanted to mention that Idem had a nice selection as well as 20-30 girls. Went in early evening on a Saturday. However, for 31,000 Colones there are cheaper options.

I see all the prices on the forum being quoted in dollars. Do you fellow mongers actually pay the chicas in dollars? If so, do you carry cash from the US in dollars? I was thinking of carrying minimal amount of cash and withdrawing local currency there in CRC.

On a somewhat related note, is there a real "Costa Rica for newbees" report. I have had these invaluable reports whenever I have visited other destinations (Rio, Bangkok, etc.) where a first time visitor can find 80% of the info they need in one spot. Of course, you do need to sift through the forum for the remaining 20%, but this one report gives you a good foundation to build on. I did not find any such thing for Costa Rica (may be its there, but I haven't found it... if so, please point me in the right diirection). I have already RTFF'd and having been able to piece together a lot of the basics, but would appreciate your help.

And of course, I will write a report or collate existing ones, if I end up going on my trip.

All-in-all most trips to San Jose are good trips and this one was no exception, except that I had to baby sit a perpetually drunk wingman most of the time. We spent too much time in the dive bars with him chatting up the barmaids. It is worth mentioning that New York Bar has a cute daytime bartender. Forget her name but she is a fair skin brunette Tica. Went there on Saturday afternoon.

When I was able to turn my attention to the girls, the selection at the Sportsman’s is still down in my view. Valerie and a few others were the only cuties I saw. As for Valerie, whose pictures I posted, the performance was very good and included anal for $80 US for 2 pops. Spent a good part of an afternoon in with her. While the sex was good, I never quite felt I could trust her. She let me sit behind that counter they have near the lockers while I was waiting for my wingman, who had a session with Paola, since all the seats were taken. Told me she is a law student. Since this is my first trip down there - what is the going rate for a LT or over night for a true stunner from DR, Sportsman, etc - can I get if for $100US which the top of my budget?

I'm rather picky and want a younger attractive type.

Yes that's definitely the impression that I got - especially since I was offered short times for $25 by two Dominican girls after spending some time talking about their country.

The reasons I accepted the high price were: I didn't have much time, I didn't feel like haggling, I didn't want to get lesser service after getting the price down, I felt that she was worth $100.

With the threesome, $100 seemed pretty reasonable when factoring in cab rides to and from and the pics/vids and extra work involved.

$100 is not the short-time norm at the Del Rey/Blue Marlin, particularly in this current buyers market. You could have politely offered $60-80 and she would have likely accepted it. NBD, but, believe me, guys who know the scene there rarely pay that much. Friends of mine who live in San Jose consistently pull hot ladies out of there for no more than $50.
