Arrived in Rio yesterday and heard from gringo management that whereas prior to the demise of Help, when 85% of their clientele was black usa, now their units are being rented primarily to 'families' and europeans. The present economy appears to be pricing out the bottom of the market. On the Continental flight over, the majority of passengers were Brazilian nationals (and would have been higher % if not for the 'oil patch trash'). Haven't seen this since the eary '90s. Looking forward to this one for the first time in a while.

As someone who travels to Rio multiple times per year I strongly object to your characterization of the oil rig guys who are there every 28 days as "oil patch trash." My experience has been that they are clean, quiet, respectful and usually sleep most of the flight. Also, I have learned a lot more from them than from your typical ignorant American traveler.

Thanks, Sperto. It's good to know. I always want to hit the casas early, but those naughty Club Florida girls typically keep me occupied till 3 or 4 in the morning, I write reports and post pics, and then I'm sleeping too late to hit the casas early. It's a vicious cycle.

MDE is Medellin. I was going to go there and see what all the hype is about. I was looking at prices across Lima, Asuncion, BsAs. What I see is highly variable service, covered BJ's (sacrilege) and prices that aren't much lower than Rio Centro. MDE seems to be the only decent alternative in this part of the world. With Latin America mongering going up in price all the time, at some point people in Europe will say screw this and just go camp out at the Partytreffs in Germany instead of going to South America. Unfortunately I live on the other side of the pond and our 'Anti-Sex League' doesn't allow such hedonistic places..

I'll be back in Rio in late February and I'm wondering if Centro casas and clubs are typically crowded with tourists at that time. I've never been to Rio during February before, so don't know what to expect.

June apartment traffic was pretty heavy this year compared with last year at the same time. Last year you could walk into any of the apartments at 2 pm and get your pick from any of the girls. This year, at 2 pm it wasn't uncommon for all girls to still be busy..so I'm a little concerned about coming during February high time and wondering if I should just plan to spend a night at 4x4 and then go try BsAs or something.

On another note. Lots of you guys are knowledgeable about MDE. Can someone PM me and point me to the equivalent of Sperto's list for MDE casas? I see a list and a series of photo maps, but the info looks possibly out of date. My schedule opened up for some hobbying, so I am about to book a trip to San Jose CR for the week after next simply because I can't get a firm grasp on the logistics and pricing of MDE. It's the most confusing thread that I've found on this board..I'm looking for the MDE equivalent of Ibis Centro in Rio or Mercure Hayam Wuruk in JKT. Just a place in the epicenter where there are a lot of nice cheap full service MP's within walking or short riding distance.

I know you are probably trying to be positive, but really, most US woman suck. Most are materialistic,(especially in relative terms to foreign ladies) selfish, much harder to please, far more demanding, and unfeminine thanks to the feminism that has ruined woman in this country. Get off the Vegas strip and hit the 1,000's of locals bars and smaller properties. You'll meet lots of available women who live in Vegas. I went out with him (he lives in Henderson) and it was a great vibe, lots of available ladies and he was scoring (and he is just an average guy with a great rap and personality). And, no, most US women don't suck. Most US guys (and I am one) are real selfish, egotistical dicks. I've come to realize that no matter how intense the sex, easygoing or passionate (or whatever floats my boat at the moment) the woman, I grow tired of the sex in any relationship after a couple of years, max. I find this to be good advice. I quit mongering six months ago after a simple, uncomplicated woman befriended me at one of the dating sites. Never had consistently better loving with low expectations, i.e. respect for my complicated status.
It's easy to dream about finding a foreign woman but linguistic and cultural difficulties often sour a relationship before it matures. While I wish the OP luck in Brazil -- or somewhere else -- I would not ignore the possibilities of finding someone in the U.S.
The so-called sex prison is nicknamed that because we are willing prisoners by not considering the thousands and thousands of good women looking for good guys like us. Well, my question was about Rio, so let me ask it here as well. I have a chance of visiting Rio during the Carnival; yet I do not have to go during that time, can find some other time to visit. I would like someone who is familiar with Rio and its Carnival tell me: is it worth trying to visit during the Carnival? I would like to meet the girls, of course. Will it be more difficult at that time? Is everything much more expensive and more difficult? Is the Carnival REALLY special, or just a lot of niusance?

Sounds like you want to just visit Rio but you are not necessarily interested in Carnaval. If this is the case then I think you answered all of your own questions already. IMHO the best time to go to Rio if you're not interested in Carnaval and the parades then go 1 to several weeks before Carnaval when most of the girls who will be in Rio for Carnaval are already there and most of the tourists are not.

Not quite sure what you are attempting to say here. But some mongers like to romantize about their importance in Brazil.

Mongers contribute every little to the overall economy. A pitence. I spend 6 months a year in Brazil (mostly Rio, SP and my home city). It has become increasingly difficult to book hotel rooms, domestic flights and buses. I need to book further in advance. I see more and more foreigners in hotels and airports. And I am actually involved with a company that is expanding its' charter flight business taking Brazilians to foreign destinations. There are more and more opportunities inside the country everyday. And once the majority of Brazilians themselves come to accept this as fact, then things will take off even more. Some guys are acting as if they are going to run the Olympics on top of Rio as it exists now. Major changes underway.
