I found this article. It says her average weekly earnings is $2000. That means she'd have to go upstairs 5 times a day@$60 and if she keeps 100% of it. Is that doable?

That's exactly right and the reason why girls can be so pushy when they're hassling you to buy them drinks. Sometimes we forget that while we're hanging out and having fun they are in fact working to feed themselves and their dependents. AB has the most brutal shifts, IIRC. I think they are 12 hours. 6 days a week. Of course, that may not be true any more, as I hardly ever go to AB.

They may still have the most brutal ficha $ reimbursement for the chicas but no 12 hr shifts anymore. In fact, many chicas don't arrive until 9 or 10 and the doors supposedly started closing months ago at 3AM. Customers could remain inside so the chicas would hang around as long as the customers did but not past 6AM for sure. The new mayor is pushing for earlier closing of some 52 bars. I believe it is 1AM Sun-Thurs. But open a couple of hours later on weekends. If this passes the night chicas should be parading in earlier, like 5 & 6pm during the week.

The girls aren't indentured servants, and they can do whatever they want, outside of their shift.

Meeting customers outside of working hours isn't really a significant loss of revenue for the clubs, as the Tijuana business model is a bit different than that of other countries. The guys usually aren't there for extended periods. They go down for an evening, have some fun, go home. They don't have time to arrange trysts before or after shifts.

Also, most of the girls don't work outside of business hours. Many do, but I think the majority do not. There are a million reasons, like taking care of kids, taking care of a boyfriend / husband, sleeping, they don't like to hang with gringos outside of work, whatever.

If it ever becomes a problem, you can bet the clubs will find a way to minimize any outside activity.

As far as your girl goes, were you with her when she arrived? If not, they're not going to just let some chica off the street wander into the hotel and go to a customer's room. She's going to have to check in at the desk, probably tell them what room she's going to, etc.

Yes, good question, China. I have ocassionally had a girl from Adelitas or HK meet me at my hotel room after her shift. They usually want more but will settle for $100 overnight depending on when they get off work and when they have to leave in the morning (most of them have kids). To me it is worth it. The bar is in the business of selling booze. The girls are just bait to get guys in the door so they can buy overpriced beer, watered-down liquor and hugely inflated soda masquerading as pony beers.

So, the different bars come up with different schemes. HK used to have some sort of 10 ficha minumum before arribas, or something like that. I think some variation still exists. AB has a similar one. CC, due to its relative slowness, mandates 2 fichas per arriba, IIRC. Of course, a lot of this can be circumvented by a few pesos migrating from the chica's hand to the doorman's.

The girls usually keep about 1/2 of the ficha price. When they were $6, they got $3. It's similar now. Some bars, so I'm told, like LM, pay a higher percentage. At shift change you'll see all the chicas cashing in their fichas. Some walk away with a tidy sum. $30. $40 per night is a fair amount of money in MX.

A few years ago the bars started mandating complete shifts. CC was notorious for popular girls showing up, working until they got a couple of arribas, and then skipping out. I was told by a chica that at AB, if they have more than two trips arriba, then they have to come up with 10 fichas or pay the difference. I think this is why her name is asked at the hotel "check-in".

The bar makes it money selling drinks and in the case of Hong Kong, selling rooms. Think about it. The $3. 00 beer cost way less than that and the girl drinks are even more profitable even when they pay out her commission. Girls are required to make their ficha quota, reimburse the house to make up for the quota, or work somewhere else. Most clubs forbid their girls from working outside the clubs (loosely enforced, only if a stupid customer tells them will they find out). Some girls will go arriba a lot and make good money doing that so having to pay out for missing fichas makes economic sense to them. Others will try and do both. Superstars get $$$ with both.

The last time I asked a girl about her cut of the ficha (not at HK) , she said she got half. However, she needed to make her quota or she'd end up not making anything. It isn't as if the bar charges the girl to go arriba, but the time she's in the room, she's not working on the quota. In most cases she gets some credit for getting the guy upstairs since that more revenue for the house. If a girl isn't pulling her weight, she gets cut loose. I've asked them about less than the '3 hour block' and they said No, maybe they think it's too much hassle to keep cleaning it out. Personally, I think if they had two time options they'd get more business from me, it's a nice room up at the top, I'd recommend it if you've got a regular chica you know is fun.
