I plan on visiting CR for this first time in early May. I've extensively traveled Asia and Europe but will a complete newbie to Costa Rica / Central America.

Based on my RTFF and reviewing Trip Advisor, I decided to stay at the SL for my first time in CR.

Sorry for this stupid question, but here it is:

Does anyone here have familiarity with the "Junior Suite" in the clubhouse wing? Is it much different from the standard rooms, aside from the price? (Actually, these are two stupid questions.)

I'm up for splurging on some beer if any of you seasoned CR veterans are up to helping a CR newbie.

I stayed in the junior suite my last stay at SL. It is a spacious room with a separate lounge area with sofa and chairs and a small bathroom. Spacious kin size bed, very clean. The one drawback is that it is very noisy at night. The floor outside is not carpeted, so you can hear the heels of everyone who comes in during the night clacking on the floor. It kept me awake several nights. If you are a sound sleeper, this may not be a problem.

Older section, its been a while since I stayed there or went back there but I think bill renovated it recently by these fotos. It faces out the front of the hotel but stays pretty quiet. Used to be real small and share showers with other rooms. But I don't think you can beat it for the price.

Last time I checked, the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica are two separate countries operating in entirely different contexts, and it is NOT the "same model." FYI, a number of MPs, including HLH, have been shut down from time to time by the authorities for supposedly violating these pimping laws. Believe me, the owner of the SL in particular is very conscious about not crossing this line. Yes, as my "buddy" Soft Bob mentioned, Billl and other owners can and should bar ladies for bad public behaviour, but that is as far as it goes. They can't and won't involve themselves with mongering transactions in any way, such as arranging price structures. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the guys at Blackbeards pay a set, or similar price for sessions? At least short-time ones?

Myself and numerous others have contributed a ton of HONEST trip reports relating to our experiences, warts and all,"outside of the Del Rey area." It doesn't seem like you or Samata61 spent much time perusing them. I find it kind of amusing that you feel so many of us are just lying, ignorant shills for the CR mongering scene. I have no problem with people who post negatively of their mongering experiences in Costa Rica. In fact, I have done so myself, a number of times. But when a complete "know it all" newbie shows up and spends virtually his entire time in one venue and then makes sweeping generalizations about the CR scene in general, I can't help but call him on it. Yes, Samata61 wrote an HONEST report of his days sampling the Blue Marlin bar and Key Largo. I never challenged him on the veracity of his report. I did challenge him on the legitimacy of his summary conclusions about the entire scene. I wonder how many people realize that there are over 100 MPs in the San Jose area that offer full service?

Enough said on my part. Maybe too much! Once again, I strongly advise first-time visitors to perform due dilligence. This includes extending their research beyond perusing the ISG CR board. I strongly recommend becoming a member of CRT as well.

We have a venue to disagree and write about it. I feel it is great.

Why are we mixing screening girls with Pimping? There is no questions that HDR screens and tests the girls and have all the right to do it to protect their client but I am also certain that they overcharge the girls for the medical tests which is a way to make more money. As a matter of fact, I requested HDR to send me a driver to the airport and he explained to me that the girls are tested every month but in reality they are tested every 3 months for $400 each. I have no way to verify this but the girl had already spent 2 days with me and was already paid $500 so she will gain nothing extra for the information.

I went to HDR and Beetle Bar based on the information posted in ISG that they are the 2 best places to hit and now after posting my negative report I am hearing that I should have done it differently. So I completely agree with Mr. Gogo that some members are hiding the good places for their own use.

My conclusion was clear. CR is a beautiful country but equally beautiful places have hotter and better looking girls for equal or less money.

MR. Gogo, I've been to DR 3 times with a Russian or Ukrainian GF since they don't need a visa but your form entices me to go to DR and taste the local talent.

I am just reporting but it appears correct. It seem that it is the way HDR can charge the girls for medical test to make sure that they are clean and make some money on the side.

That is in addition to having quite a bit of info on those out of the way spots you mention. Solo mi dos centavos.

He always misses the point, thats nothing new. He only knows how to freeload. No trip reports, no pics but he gets angry at guys who block the faces in their pics. These forums are an asset as long as people contribute good or bad. But as he says"he only shoots the shit here'.

I come here for an intelligent exchange of ideas regarding travel. Where to stay, how much, girls, taxis, food, and safety. I don't come here to waste anybodys time with chit chat. Just my 2 cents.

I just got back from SJ this weekend. Prior to my trip I booked the Hotel Presidente. I asked if I could have a guest and they said yes and mentioned a dress code and that they look guests up in a computer system. I got a copy of the dress code prior to going to del ray. Once I got to del ray I mentioned to 1 or 2 girls where I was staying and they said hotel presidente not letting anyone in regardless of dress code. I called hotel presidente from the del ray and spoke to manager of hotel presidente and she said I could have a guest. So I picked out a knock out, yes, there are knock outs there, and told her she needed to change for dress code. She had a friend bring a change of clothes. When she came out of the bathroom she told me 2 or 3 other ticas said hotel presidente won't let anyone in. We went back to hotel presidente and the computer screen said "denied". My tica said she never had a problem there and I believe her. I think the screen is either bogus, or they got a data dump of all of the registered ticas.

I told the manager that I booked under the agreement I could have a guest and I would dispute the charges. She said I could have my money back. We walked less than 50 feet over to the ballamore and they were so nice and booked a room on the spot. I can't believe the hotel presidente rather give me my money back then let a guest up to my room. My tica was super hot and in regular clothes she looked like a future trophy wife for some lucky guy that had no idea about her past. Or didn't care.

I was at the del ray thur night between 7. 9. Out of 100 plus girls there were at least 5 hotties. I was luckly to not have any real competition and the hotties came to straight to me. The hottest girl however was a bar tender and I blew off a few ticas because I was enjoying my conversation with the bartender so much. Unfortunately I was only in town for that night and the bar tender worked until 1:00 am and I knew it was a long shot. So I went with the sure thing for 4 hours. Had I been in town longer I would have blown off all of the ticas for one shot with that bartender! Wowowowwowow

A good friend of mine who owns a hotel in San Jose was told flatout by one of the owners of the Presidente that they don't want the monger buiness. They are much more interested in soliciting business travellers, families and ecotourists. And their dress code is selectively enforced. And they don't allow more than one lady at a time. There are obviuosly much better options! Glad you ditched them!

BlackBeards (owned by foreigners) in the Dominican Republic shoots down your whole first paragraph. The Dominican Republic has laws that forbid pimping. The resort is set up for male single travelers. The girls are tested, are encouraged to smile and be receptive, and are supposed to respect the resorts guests. From having lunch, to a walk on the beach, to spending all night (independent girls can do these things not ask for 100usd for an hour then run off) , to off the resort dates (no sex) to see the Dominican experience. Black beards is not in any way involved in profitting from sex (you pay the girl not them). They make sure the guests are NOT ripped off basically. Maybe they deal with the once a year police checkup (payoff). But if your telling me an establishment doesn't reserve the right to decide who gets allowed on the property and who is not, maybe I'm not the only one "that reflects a complete ignorance". I know your going to say CR and the DR are different places, but its the same model.

I will agree with you that most of the Mongerers stay in the Del Rey, and vacinity and never branch out. But last time I checked there werent alot of other reports about different areas. First outside destination we hear are Jaco, and the Beatle bar. Please don't get me started on that place. So 'Honest Samata61" comes to this board and goes by what he has read, and ends up in Del Rey. I respect his HONEST reporting about over paying more than some guy that "knows the game", has friends there, and states he overpays (50usd) at Hotel Del ray.

Maybe what this board needs is an HONEST person who "has connections" and" knows the game" to educate us about their experiences outside of the Del Rey area. Are you willing to help us overpaying Del Rey Junkies?

FYI in my forum"Mr Gogo in the DR", I do trip reports (and pics) from all over the island and try to distribute all the HONEST info a newbie or veteran would need to know before traveling. Being no info is on this board like this, I have two assumptions: 1). Either everyone is keeping their secrets. 2). Only a few who selectively sanitize CR, really like it. I think its the second choice.
