My waiter was a veteran of the place so I asked him how he likes the current situation. He told me that since Help closed and the dollar is so weak there are no more Gringos / tourists in Rio. I can just say this though. I walk to work and walk home on Nossa Senhora, every day. Except the days I take a taxi back from my gym up by the Othon Palace. And honestly, even at 9pm at night or 9. 30pm at night, that damn faixa azul lane has massively slowed down traffic. Probably 5 more minutes onto a 10 min cab ride. It drives me nuts. Any time I take a cab now in Copa, that lane seems to cause problems. I'm not sure why we have such a different impression of it, but that's mine.

I've found it a big improvement (quicker) , both when going by bus and taxi.

I've spoken with several taxi-drivers regarding the faixa azul. About half of them liked the faixa and the other half disliked it. It's good for them being able to use the bus-faixa when they have passengers. The problem is that they can't drive in the bus-faixa looking for passengers. They fine you if you abuse the rules.

Another note one the buses: There are 20% less buses passing Copa now after the changes. Less buses means less traffic. One problem with the new category system of buses (BRS1 etc...) is that there are longer between the bus stops.

After having been away from Brasil for 2 years for various reasons while at the same time, exploring other parts of the world, I am feeling a lot of saudades and want to return to Brasil and more specifically to Rio very soon. Read the past few pages of the Rio thread to get a feel of how the scene is nowadays.
