Just as generic information, I use a very helpful free Android phone application "Öffi. Public Transport Buddy", that gives you realtime information about all lines in Berlin (and in most Germany and Europe cities) , giving you very clear graphical timetables and trip planning.

Android mobile phones users can take advantage of it in such a situations. Hope it helps.

I made the mistake of sticking around until about 1am. I took the S42 loop train. I got off at Sudkreuz thinking I can just switch to the S2 or S25 train that goes north to my stop Anhalter Bhf. After the first stop I realized the train was going south not north. I got off at Priesterweg and saw a train worker and asked her which train goes to my stop. She said none of the trains go my way until 4 am. Okay, my mistake for not taking note of when the trains stopped. I figured if one S train was running then all of them were running. So I figured I would just walk out of the station and get a cab. I walked out and it was like I was on a small road with 2 bus stops in the middle of a park with no visibility about which way to go to find a cab or civilization. One guy walked out with me and said I can catch a cab on that road. Well I waited there about 30 or 40 minutes and maybe 6 cars came by. None of them were cabs. Finally a bus came by and I got on. The bus driver spoke english really well with an american accent and told me that it would cost 50 to 60 euros to get a cab from there to Anhalter bhf. He told me to stay on the bus and he will show me where to switch to the M48 which will take me to Potsdamer Plaza. I did that and walked back to my hotel from there. It took me about 2 hours. I really thought I would be stranded in that park until 4am. Learn from my mistakes. It seems that just outside central berlin it is very suburb like and really dead at night. Don't get stuck out there. Learn the train schedules.

Man 'o man. Priesterweg after 01:00 is not a great place to land. Last summer I was actually working in a small beer garden in the station (north end) and it gets pretty quiet at night. In fact had you walked about 10 min. West of there you would have hit Hauptstr. (actually called something different that far south) and had access to many night busses that would take you to Potsdammerplatz.

But generally you are right, it is good to know that the UBahn / SBahn system shuts down pretty early on the week nights. Get to know the night bus routes or plan a taxi is best.

Maybe I have to do a Walk with Angus night bus edition.

I visited Artemis and Berlin for the first time. I took the train to Westkreuz and had no problem finding it thanks to the Angus Magee video showing the way. Since I read that beer is 10 euros in Artemis, I got a. 5 L bottle of Becks at the Westkreuz train station for 2 euros and just drank it on the walk over. If you are going to drink there I'm sure the high prices will not stop everyone, but this is a nice way to get a start on your drinking with an 8 euro discount.

Because I just got in to Berlin today, I took a nap until about 6:30pm and then went looking for a place to exchange dollars for euros. I only found one place offering something like 1. 37-1. 47 buy / sell when the spot was like 1. 42. I didn't change any money since I had some euros and I just took out another 100 euros from the ATM. I was hoping that Artemis might offer a decent rate as the termas in Brazil do. No such luck. I asked the lady at Artemis if they exchanged dollars for euro. She said they do it at. 60 euros per dollar. Yikes! That's like 1. 67 dollars per euro. When I was in Frankfurt there were many places with decent rates. If anybody knows a good place in Berlin, let me know.
