A couple of weekends ago during the NBA games on the big screen at Rumba there was a crew that rented a large white SUV. They would drive into the lot on the side of Rumba near the bathroom very fast to attrack attention. They would drive fast in a circle and stop and go. Then they would jumb out and walk around Rumba like they were expecting people to jump up and ask them for autographs. There is a lot more of this mentality in Sosua now and this is what I think was alluded to in terms of investors and tourists cause that type of behavior, if on a wide scale and noticeable, makes some of the big money feel uncomfortable just like it would in the US. There has to at least be the appearance of some sanity and control for certain folks.

You also have to keep in mind that there are young Dominicanos with money that roll (or used to) through Sosua at times. I've had people point out Dominican Baseball players from the farm teams over there. These guys would roll through the Pedro Clisante with their trunk open and music blaring (I wonder were they would get an idea like that from? Hmmm, LOL). I'm told that some of these guys are making $100K+ per year. I still don't understand the concept of wanting to show-out for hookers though (as if flashing money is going drive the negotiating price downward. I'm thinking it's the exact opposite. Ask A-Rod).

I remember my second time in Sosua I went into Classicos with a white, starched buttoned down long sleeve shirt, black pressed jeans, and all white shoes. On top of sweating like a pig, my wingman accidentally knocked over a Presidente on me and the chica sitting on my lap (we were sitting next to the big window right above Merengue Bar BEFORE they started making this area a VIP section, lol). I've since learned my lesson.

A member recently PM'd me to ask what length of time, and how many pops, he could expect in Sosúa.

I said he really needed to take a consensus as everyone will have their own opinions. This is what I replied, just to start the ball rollling:

ST in Sosúa usually means until you pop, or an hour if you don't. Not many chicas will allow you a second pop without wanting more money. (Not an issue for me, I am 71!).

LT you need to make it very clear that if they don't fuck in the morning as well you will reduce the payment. They will usually try to slip away as soon as it is light (around 6. 00am at present) and some even before that. I always stipulate to either 10. 00am or 11. 00am. If we are getting on OK they sometimes stick around for lunch and leave around 2. 00pm.

An exception may be Passions as they have their own guidelines, but you pay a lot more there.

The proportion of hard-core putas to non-hardcore putas is higher in Sosúa than anywhere else on the island (cannot speak for the capital, though) so you need to be even less trusting there. Most residents and regular visitors learn to find their chicas away from the town center eventually.

You might find a chica who you hit it off with and who will not watch the clock or limit your number of pops, but you are unlikely to do so with a first-time pick-up, and you will end up paying more with someone you have some sort of quasi-GFE relationship with if you include meals, gifts, etc.

What do you guys think? Our friend has experience in Rio and LOS, by the way.

I think that was a very good summary of events. I would just add that sometimes the quasi-GFE relationship does work out to be cheaper if (like me) you like to have multiple chicas. After a few days I usually slow down and only call the girls that I've hit it off really well with and hang with them until leaving. So instead of 5-6 ST with chicas I go down to about maybe one to two ST and then LT with one.

But yes, it can become more expensive if she is with you all day and you have to buy meals and etc. for two instead of just yourself. Especially if she (and you) want to eat breakfast at Bailey's every morning (they're breakfast just happens to taste better). To vary up things you can take the free breakfast at your hotel and just pay for hers (the free breakfast at TL is probably the weakest thing on their menu; NG has good free breakfast though). The incident at NG that Boriman is talking about was an isolated situation as I have stayed at NG about 50 nights in the past year and once the bar closed at 11 it was quiet as a mouse there every single night, that is why I stay there because even though I like to stay out partying until 3 a. M. Some nights I also like to quit a little early say at 12 on some nights if I am hooked up with a chica and still get a good night's sleep.

This is exactly why the new setup in Sosua doesn't appeal to me. When I am done running chicas for the day I at least want to be able to sleep at night, LOL. By 1 or 2am NG used to be quiet for the most part other than a few loud drunken mongers staggering in after meeting chicas at Classicos (on the way to their rooms). But now it seems the party doesn't get started until around this time. I can imagine that everything is operating in reverse: if mongers and chicas used to hang out around the pool at NG from 10am until late evening (because everyone was heading to the Pedro Clisante around this time), it's now late evening until early morning. So now if you want to sleep, I'm guessing you have to wait until the sun fully rises (and those assholes are fully asleep). Sleeping during the daytime sucks. But as I understand it, there is nothing to do during the day in the new Sosua, so maybe sleeping during the day will be the new norm (unless you want to go hang out with tourist).

The same is true of Boca Chica. They are interesting in keeping it discreet not killing it. The issue is just with how it looks to regular tourists and investors. Not what is actually happening.

The "glory days" are just those periods when it's tilting out of control to the point where drunken frat boy parties and mobs of chicas are scaring tourists and investors.

It may seem like classicos is the center of the DR's economy but there are a hundred rooms on the north coast for regular tourists for every one for mongers. In tough times the regular guys start screaming louder about how bad those p4p people are making their properties look. Because they are not selling and they are real touchy. Number wise I'd say 50, 000 straight tourist rooms (AI, condo, timeshare etc) 500 monger. Literally 100:1.

Brought up some good points. Actually, I was just talking about Sosua. I cannot generalize about the entire North Coast or any other part of the island because I simply do not know. I do not think there is a better place in the DR, though, transportation, convenience, and money wise, for the monger than Sosua. (if there is I would like to know).

From the little I do know of the island, as a whole, it seems to cater more to tourists than mongers. Cabarete, La Romana, Samana. Are not the most monger friendly places, yet action can be found. Santo Domingo and Pureto Plata, I am guessing are largely tourist destinations, but action is more common than the first three locations mentioned.

If the DR has an economic center I would guess that it would be in Santo Domingo.

I remember a conversation I had with a hotel owner in Sosua. When he opened up shop in Sosua he wanted to make the hotel tourist friendly and had a no chica policy. He had to change his policy real quick since he was not getting the volume he desired. We had discussions and he agrees that 90% of his problems with the residents in his hotels involves chicas yet this is his lifeline. He actually charges a bit higher for his rooms for, as he says, to keep certain types of mongers out. He's had problems with rowdy mongers and found by increasing the prices they will not go to his hotel to stay (and yet he still gets the quality clientele he wants). He shows concern about keeping the noise level down yet cannot do much about the chicas, since the majority of his residents are mongers and not tourists.

As for the frat house mentality. The crackdown is usually justified as showing a concern about increasing tourism. Keeping it discreet and not killing it is a good way of putting it. You are right about how it looks. You brought up a good point about investors (not just tourists and mongers, although there is an obvious relationship!)

The last time I was in Sosua I rather liked it. Less beggars, motochoncho, and shoeshine boys harassing me. I had more peace in the day and action at night. Not a bad mix. Thanks for your input Marc Anthony.

I recall the last time I stayed at New Garden. There was a group of guys from the inner city. They were like everyone else, having a good time, but the noise level was ridiculous. I am guessing that they paid New Garden to have a House Party because they blasted the music so loud that I was talking to the owner of Terra Linda, in front of Terra Linda, complaining about the music at New Garden. The owner could hear it clearly and even customers at Terra Linda, who were friends of the music players at New Garden, heard the music loud and clear in their rooms at Terra Linda.

Ok, I'll say it since I'm not a big believer in political correctness.

The monger type that has come down and has everyone upset are these Black guys or shall I say African-American.

I don't mean to stereotype all African-Americans as I am one, but seriously. In the last 3-4 years or so a new type has come down and essentially lessened the quality of the experience. Every one I know from the older DR hands white, latin, european, black all notice and complain.

Their typical characteristics:

-Black / African American (sometimes latin). Typically from New York, Atlanta, DC.

- typically young. 33 and under (although a few older)

-loud. Display obvious lack of home training or as they say in the DR "educacion"

-walk around wearing "wife-beaters". Forgetting that wife beaters are typically underwear not outwear.

-baggy shorts / pants with underwear showing.

-ALWAYS running around in packs with their "boyz" or their "crew" or entourage.

-sometimes acting as if they are re-enacting a 50 cent or P-Diddy video.

The proliferation of this newer monger type has definitely reduced the overall quality of the monger experience, has increased the general incivility of the place and thus attracting the attention of politicians and long time residents who always accepting prostitution as long as people. Tourist and practitioners showed a modicum of respect for the place, but are now upset.

I even remember the days long ago when New Garden was actually a decent hotel to stay at and not an open air brothel that this new type (primarily) has turned it into.

Everything changes I guess. And not always for the better.

I thought that was where this was going. But I would say the internet is more to blame than anything.

I am young and AA, but I do not fit the description above, not does anyone I travel with (also AA's). I don't even have friends of those types here at home. In the Old Sosua there was enough pros to go around 24/7 and those guys were mostly invisible to me (because I usually finished all my business early and ended early (before 2am). Now it seems that everything starts late and ends early (in the morning) and in order to get some you have to fish alongside everyone else (including the "make-it-rain crowd).

Sosua is easy. That is why folks with no Spanish or the desire to learn Spanish go there (aside from the quick hop from the East Coast). These guys would fall flat on their faces outside of Sosua. You also have to take into account that there are more college educated blacks then there was back in the 80's and 90's, so now there are more blacks with money to spend. Since felon's can't hold passports then it is safe to assume you are witnessing what 50 Cent calls "Wanksters" (fake gangsters). The real thugs and gangsters all all in Prison (T.I. and Lil Wayne would agree since they visit that institution often).

So I guess it is also safe to assume that those who want "quick and easy" (Sosua) will have to put up with the Wanksters that also want quick and easy. Everyone else (including me) will take the time to learn the language and venture elsewhere (on the island or in another country). Wanksters will not take the time to learn another language because to them, that is not "Gangster" (read "Cool"). I have never met BBBL (nor do I know his style of dress), but all you have to do his read his almost daily reports of his two months in SD that he has been posting in Mr. Gogo's forum to see what the new way forward will be. Jao and BQ Ribs have been doing this for years.

Also, don't falsely assume that all black men want and lust for White women. We are talking about black men seeking out black women (Dominicanas, Haitianas) who will give them less of a hassle than their counterparts (AA women) , so naturally black men will want to flock there in droves after discovering Sosua (the same way they did with Rio). I am sure if black men from the East Coast start showing up in South Africa in droves in the next few years, there will be complaints (from non-blacks) in that forum as well, LOL.

I like some of your observations / thoughts. POP / Costambar are areas I still like to go to and often get non-putas, as in they don't ask for money, and the girls have a different mentality than in Sosua. I can say this about a lot of areas outside of Sosua. Unfortunately, most guys on the boards only know POP for Blackbeards. However, I've also seen old headz like the guys you mention in the DR and they are very well connected and doing things on another level.

You make some point's I agree with and some I don't.

I think it's a new breed of mongerer, that developed with the Brazil "fuck fest". I love the story's from my Uncle's about the day's of mongering in Santo Domingo in the 80's and 90's. The North Coast hadn't developed to the wild Sosua yet. But they migrated to Puerto Plata first when it had dirt roads. These guys would spend months at a time, and intergrate into the community. Girls would invite them over to show off their new gringo boyfriend. They learned Spanish, and fucked with respect and laughed when they got caught cheating, it was all fun.

Then Brazil got hot with their amazon bodys and sexual talents. Word spread and it was a must see, meanwhile the older dudes in Puerto Plata keept their secrets. Puerto Plata is still a secret and my second favorite place behind Medellin.

Sometime's I think Sosua was created to hide Puerto Plata. The older guy's had already set up shop in Puerto plata and didn't want these new young guys, who were now looking for the next Brazil, to fuck their spot up. Sosua had a beach and new night cubs plus girl's looking for a gringo boyfriend. But here comes the ex Brazil guys with their "fuck fest" attitude's. Now it's all buisiness and sex. Closer than Brazil and less expensive. Also there are non stop flights from the North East. It got crazy, guys would pull a girl in a corner and bukakee her if they thought they could get away with it. The respect was lost, it no longer was about GFE and the DR cultural experience. If guys could of bought their pitbulls down to get pussy they wouldve done it, they didn't care. I have connections, love the culture and work everyday on adding to my Spanish vocab. Once the change takes place (whatever it is) I will resume my bi monthly trips. I guess it's what Mani say's, every mongerer spot goes thru an adjustment.
