Does anybody have any information on getting Colombia student visa for long-term stay (by studying Spanish)?
I thought there was a public university (not a "private language school") in Bogota which did this but I cannot find it now.
I would be very interested to hear other's experiences.

Posts: 1281Most of the trout and tilapia here are from farms, as is the salmon, although national salmon is still a small industry. Generally salmon here comes from Chile.

They are all from the sea, but some of them can be grown in fish farms in land. If you are getting sick from the seafood, remember that many of the species you mentioned, especially the sea catfish are bottom feeders. So, only thoroughly cooking the fish will kill the more annoying stomach ailments when it comes to fish ingesting certain poisons and what have you at the bottom or at the end of an unprocessed sewer line; however freezing and extreme heat do the trick 99. 9% of the time. In order to be safe, make sure that you see the food literally "Smoking" from the kitchen if you are eating out. Make sure you tell them that you like your food really, really hot. Be safe.

Posts: 695What are fresh water fish in Medellin?
Sorry for being uneducated, but is Robalo fresh water fish? I also assume that Bagre, catfish, is fresh water fish too. So Can I assume that, Tilapia, Robalo, and bagre are relatively safe? I like, and therefore frequently ate, cazuela de Mariscos, which includes shrimps, squids, and other unknown fish. Thanks for the great info, esepecially fish eyes. Probably you examine chicas' eyes with the same sharpness as well.

In Bogota all seafood is frozen by law, which just ruins it for me.
Tap water in Bogota and Medellin is fine. I've never NOT had problems every time I was in the DR, despite not drinking the water. Here in Bogota I drink the shower water every day and drink tap water all day long, never the slightest problem. I did the same in Medellin too. The water is not your worry here. Colombia is better off for potable water than the USA. As a general rule, the hotter the climate the more you have to worry about the water supply, although I also drank Cartagena tap water with no grief. Cartagena water is heavily chlorinated though.

Keep your diet Plain and simple. Starches = Pasta, Potatoes, Rice. That will serve as both a binder for your stomach and fill you up at the same time. Nothing foreign there to process. Take some extra strength PEPTO with you and some IMODIUM. Do you eat GREENS and wash them with tap water?
My paisa friends always tell me that the tap water in Medellin is the "best" in Colombia and you can drink it right from the tap. Fuck That. I'd rather pay 2mil and buy a gallon of BRISA then to fuck up my whole vacation. Better be safe than sorry. I always get some kind of squirts in the Caribbean but never in South America "knock on wood" LOL

I dnt knw why, my stomach gets sick every time I come to Colombia. Is it because I eat mainly fish? Some of the fish in Medellin maybe frozen and kept for a long time, I believe. I avoid street vendors' food and fruits, and only drink bottled water though. I apprecite any suggestion.

Thanks for everyones contribution regarding my question about SA chicks. Grateful for the help. Appreciate it. (Especially SlamCity7777). Now to my recent concern; Brazil was my number One choice initially, then I considered Argentina + Colombia my main targets. Up until now. Because recently I found out that travelling to Rio de Janiero will cost somewhat 300 euros (ca 420 dollars) less than flying to BA or Bogota. So even if Colombia and Argentina are cheaper to live in, a visit to Brazil may cost equal when all costs are summed up. To those with experience; am I right about this assumption or way too optimistic (about the costs living in Rio)?
If I travel to South America my main (only) targets are these:
1) Girls, girls, girls. The easier access the better.
2) Hang out at beaches. Which of course requires sunny weather, hot temperatures and sun screen (and bikini chicks)
I predict that in Rio I will have all that in one place whereas in BA and Colombia I have to travel up and down to get my fill. Right?

Forget MDE.
Your comment { the girls had to pay to get in which seem to make them more motivated. }
These girls have babys to feed. That is all the motivation they need.
BTW fellow board memembers, I promise this is the last time I answer a Help in Rio question.
