Respectfully Mr. Gogo your lost GFE didn't make Latino's close in the front, the mayor did, the cleanup of Sosua the mayor and Politur are responsible. The closed door meeting with the head of tourism, no it wasn't the ex-Brazil guys it was the mayor and it wasn't pleasant. A couple weeks ago the mayor had meeting with Sosua buisness owners, no they weren't happy either. Now new Police cheif and Latino's is back the way it was this week. It is big news new Politur and Latino's front getting taken down cause it shows the mayor losing her power in last couple weeks. Now the Mayor hides more than the putas because noone likes her. As far as the Police cheif getting paid off please list someone who isn't on the take in the DR I would like to know who it is. LOL

My prediction: In the. Next two months Classicos will be shut down as we now know it. Police will start a new crack down. And a major crime will happen. All this before Thanksgiving. Or as you say 200 girls running around happy and tricking. If I'm wrong in a couple months I will admit guilt here. As always respectfully yours.

100 peso bills are usually easier to come by, than 50 peso bills. The new Samana highway has at 3 least tolls (peaje). I have read on some toll booths in the DR, that the maximum denomination bill they will take is 100 pesos (I doubt it is very strictly enforced, but if you can avoid any headaches at the toll plaza, the better). If a guy driving a 5 hour or more trip, if he can stop quickly and buy a soda or snack and pay with a 100 peso bill (you know how it is, to pay with larger bills and sometimes you have to wait a while for change, with luggage and valuables sitting in the car).

If I thought 50 peso bills could be easily obtained, I would have suggested having a bunch of 50 peso bills. 100 pesos you can give to a motoconcho guy if you get lost driving and the motorcycle guy shows you the way (driving behind him, especially if a tourist's Spanish is not great and he doesn't understand spoken direction; doble=dub blay=turn; zamaforo=traffic light; direcha=right; izquierda=left; direcho=straight; cerca=close; lejo= lay ho = far; Direccion por Sosua? Porfavor. I have paid motoconcho guys to show me the way, while I drive behind them.

Flat tires or other car problems, you can be pay to have repaired using 100 peso bills.

I'll try to visit Puerto Plata in September.

Last week the manager of the Latino bar / nightclub had the dark glass wall removed again from the street site of his bar. This allows people passing by to have look inside and the people at the bar can watch the street again and see what's happening outside. For some time now you can see that the tourist police (Politur) act more restraint than before.

Nokia has free maps of the Dom Rep, but I don't think I would only want to a have cell phone based GPS. Probably best to stick with a Garmin device.

The main roads in punta cana should be good, I have not been there in years, lots of new development there, I would imagine the roads are nicely paved. The drive from punta cana to Higuey, I have not done.

Higuey is the closest big city to punta cana, going west. I don't think you can head north from punta cana and drive along the north coast to sosua. Seems to me, from punta cana to Sosua, you would have to drive west to Higuey. Punta Cana to Higuey, I have been told is about 40 minutes.

Higuey is a fun town, with at least one large open air puta bar, with rooms. The Basilica (large modern church) is nice, reminded me of a building you could possibly see in a movie like Blade Runner. Some attractive chicas in Higuey. From Higuey, I have driven west to Santo Domingo.

From Higuey (heading to Sosua) , you will drive in the direction of la romana, the road is a two lane country type road (one lane each for moving traffic). Some Dominicans do some crazy passing on that road. The asphalt is in good shape, scenic drive, you will drive past fields with cattle. General advice, if you have not driven on a road before, best not to drive that road at night, in the DR.

On the way to La Romana from Higuey, you will see signs for boca de yuma and bayahibe. Bayahibe is a nice town with about 5 all inclusive hotels. Higuey to La Romana, on a nice sunny day, less than an hour driving. Once in La Romana you can visit Klimax, (last time I drove past it, it was no longer called Scores). The two times I visited that place there were some fine chicas there, some from santiago. Casa de Campo is an expensive gated community in La Romana with some homes that sell for more than $10US million.

After La Romana, you will continue heading west, towards san pedro de marcoris. Good road, some places it is a 4 lane highway, with a new bridge and some continuing new construction on the highway. La Romana to San Pedro de Marcoris, about 40 minutes. From San Pedro de Marcoris, you will continue west, heading towards juan dolio, boca chica and santo domingo. To go to Sosua, you don't have to drive into santo domingo city. You can pick up the new samana highway before entering the main tourist part of santo domingo. The new samana highway will take you to the north coast, where you will turn left and drive west along the north shore, until you reach sosua. (a video showing the new samana highway, the guy is driving towards santo domingo, you will be driving the opposite direction to get to Sosua;

Buy some windex and paper towels in a supermarket in DR, or bring windex wipes to clean the inside glass, outside glass, mirrors, wiper blades. Cars get dirty quick in DR.

You never know, when your car journey may get delayed (maybe you meet some chica and you want to spend more time in a particular town or city; car breaks down; heavy rain that you don't want to drive through, etc). Can be good to know about inexpensive hotels in different towns throughout your journey. Hotel Don Carlos was around $50US per night, decent hotel in Higuey. There are a few decent looking hotels in La Romana for under $100US. In San Pedro de Marcoris, next door to the Jumbo Store there is a decent hotel. In Juan Dolio, Caribe Paraiso is good for the money (under $100US).

Chevrolet Aveo rental car, I don't like. I usually always get the glass / tire insurance with Alamo (my last trip I got two flat tires the same day, neither tire was repairable, with the insurance, alamo came and gave me new tires, without insurance I would have had to pay for two new tires, glass / tire insurance with Alamo is about $4US per day).

A good pair of sun glasses with polarized lenses, can help improve visibility while driving by cutting down on glare, I like the sunglasses made by Native;

They need to paint it or something. Also, there are sliding glass doors now where the club separates from the bar. In addition, there is a sign outside that says Gran Valero Bar & Discoteca. Is it the new name of the place?

And as you said, it doesn't seem like the police are fucking with anybody. There were even some guys backing up the one-way in front of Latino's and they just told them not to do it again. A buddy of mine got a ticket in that same spot before right after they changed it to a one-way.

Not sure which is the right forum for this post. I have a free ticket from an airline that only flies to Punta Cana. I have booked a week trip to Punta Cana end of September and am renting a car and driving to Boca Chica to spend a couple of nights (maybe pass through La Romana to check out the famous bar there) and then to Sousa for next 4 nights before returning to Punta Cana. My questions are

1. How are the driving conditions? I know I should stick to driving during the day, how many extra hours to pad, what to watch out for etc? My driving experiences in DR is from Santiago to Sosua (on mountain road and the other highway on the way back) and from Santo Doming to Boca Chica and back. Google maps says Sosua to STI is 2 hrs but both ways it took me an hour or more longer both ways (I am a cautious driver in other words slow. LOL)

2. Does any GPS work for all areas of the DR? I have used ola gps for Santo Domingo and it worked ok and I payed like 12$/day. It adds up for 7 days, so I was wondering if I can get reasonably priced maps to load on a Garmin device for all of DR, and which Garmin device would be ideal (not too expensive). I am also researching DR1 forums, but with experts like JAO I hope for better advice here. The Ola gps last time almost took me to Casa Australia except it screwed up in the last turn which wasn't really too bad since I parked and asked around and it ended up being not too far away.
