The problem with the escalating bar fine structure is the bar business is seasonal and no bar is guaranteed a good night every night during the high season. Talk to hotel owners, some suggest that upwards of 70% of their guests appear to spend most of their time in their room, and are not out bar hopping all night. One can argue that customers will abandon Angeles if prices increase, on a macro level, what is certain in the short-term is that customers will abandon a bar that does not have attractive girls. I've believed for a long time, the trend customers have taken to save a few peso and buy off the street, will eventuate in increased prices in the bars, as money will be paid to attract the talent to fill a stage.

Lets also look at the reality of the bars, the most popular bars on Fields are also the most expensive. You may go to Alaska or Gecko's, but in Atlantis, customers call in advance to get preferred seating for their parties. Everything being said about price control, boycotts, sneak outs at the high end bars, becomes so much noise. The most popular bars, the ones with the largest volume, have the best looking girls and that eventuates in more customers. Not 50 peso beer or 1200 peso bar fines.

Then look at the true price of things. Most of the town does not make its money from the locals on a pension. Its a tourist destination and like they still pack Pattaya, they will pack Angeles. Cause at 50 something plus in your home country, you are not going to get an 20 year old girl to spend the night with you for $150 USA (approx. 6,500 peso). So my opinion is that prices have much room to climb above the dreaded 3, 000 peso being charged for some girls.

As for the earlier discussion on Gecko's, that bar's reputation seems one of the hidden secrets. Girls at that bar earn an extra day of salary if they leave their customer and return to the bar before quitting time. Its a built in structure that does not exist at most bars.

It's already happening. When I first visited Angeles City in 2007, barfines were pretty much maxed out at around P1500. Now it's P3000.

Let's be honest here. We can say that something "doesn't make sense". But we're not as qualified as bar owners in determining whether a certain policy maximizes revenue. In general, if they're doing something, it's usually because it's in their financial self-interest.

What I meant was the change in habits and mentality of the girls, the change of the purpose of the bar. The brothel-type bar just to present the girls changed into an entertaining bar with fashion shows, body painting and other action to keep customers staying and drinking. And having customers nowadays, who pay for company only, who go with the girls barhopping for hours, who are happy with one bumbum only per night etc, IMHO this change the behavior of the ladies.

Market forces and consumer choice.

If I were a bar owner, I would group those who get barfined almost every night into a special P3000 catagory. If those girls still get barfined nightly at P3000, they go to P3500 catagory. And if they still get barfined almost nightly at P3500, they go to P4000. This continues until, at a certain price point, she only gets barfined 2-3 times a week.

That means, a bar can have many groups of girls all charging different prices. We have a P1500 pool here dancing on one stage. A P2000 pool on another stage. And a P3000 pool there in the back. Or maybe they get differentiated by the color of their tag.

We already have this system in the mega-bars on Fields. With more tourists flooding in, there will likely be wider price ranges simply because the bars can get away with certain dancers who are insanely in demand.

In fact, the P4P scene will probably expand dramatically in the years ahead. Clark airport will soon be a hub for AirAsia. Expect heaps of new tourists passing through Angeles City in 2012. There is also talk of transferring some or most of Manila's airport traffic to Clark. Clearly, the outlook for Angeles tourism is very bright.

With an onslaught of tourists, I foresee a widening of a two tier arrangement already in place (Field v Perimeter). In this widening two tier system, the highest quality girls will get to charge ever higher barfines. Barfines of P4000 are probably just around the corner.

Before anyone panics thinking AC will become unaffordable, keep in mind that it's impossible for all girls to charge that much. A vast majority of girls on a given night do not get barfined. There will always be girls for any budget.
