in may i spent two weeks in asuncion, my third trip. i plan to spend much more time there in the future.

for a week in may, i stayed at hotel las palmas del sol, and then i got a great apartment for a week for less money. the staff at las palmas were friendly and helpful, but i like a room with a view and privacy in term of noise. also, to get to the hotel after dark (which happens before 6 pm) , you have to walk down a very dark block with dysfunctional streetlights. on the positive side, other mongers in the past have said that the hotel is chica friendlly, but i do not order take-out personally.

past reviews recommend the asuncion palace hotel as chica friendly. i have never stayed there because i favor renting apartments so i can do my own cooking. i don't know how nice it is, but the asuncion palace hotel is on colon, which is the opposite side of the centro from the departamentos with chicas that i enjoyed. the location is not ideal but it is much better than being stuck at the airport or at the sheraton or ibis, which are near the big modern shopping centers and far from the action.

both the hotel palmas del sol and the asuncion palace hotel are inexpensive. if you want an expensive hotel, i can easily recommend las margaritas and granados park, which are located in the heart of the centro. crowne plaza is another hotel that is well-located and high-class.

but i have to be honest: i have not solved the puzzle of a cheap hotel that is chica-friendly, well-located, vista-affording, and private. i prefer to rent departamentos, but if i were going to look into hotels, i would check out the hotel amalfi, the hotel preciado, the hotel espana, and the hotel espanola.

my advice is to find a hotel that is in the centro and to avoid all the hotels, up-scale and economy, that are rep001tered throughout this city. aim for something just a little south of plaza indepencia or plaza uruguaya. why would you want to spend lots of time in taxis in order to get the chicas? in the centro, you will find the chica-full departamentos, the restaurants, and the bars that you can enjoy. please note that asuncion does not have a chica-ready-club scene like buenos aires.

to find the departamentos, check hot. com. py and sexoenparaguay. com. my top two recommendations for chicas are azara 905 and cerra corra 452 (the place to go if you want well-educated, classy chicas). these places are open during the day; they are not 24-hour places that offer services when i am asleep and happy. however, there are many places where there are often jewels.

is the centro area noisy or dangerous? website for short term renting apartments that might be reliable? any suggestions on sim cards. are they available at the airport (i understand some 4-5 cell companies-any suggestions: all the same? claro, tigo, personal. etc?).

My impression of clubs is that men in their 60s, gringo or not, are not particularly welcomed. I'd love to be wrong if you want to point me in the right direction.

As for the apartments, let's just say "To each his own." I rather enjoy my existence actually, and I hope you enjoy yours. I've had some pretty good sex in my life, and I have to say that some of my experiences in the departamentos of Asuncion have been as good as the best of my youth (excluding the couple actual lovers of course).

If all you do in this city is go to apartments where girls are flat on their backs all day taking on all comers, that's a pretty shabby way to spend your existence in Asuncion, but to each their own. The clubs are great on weekends, friends easy to make, but you might just have to take a taxi.

Never let it be said that Asuncion is a pretty city, in fact it is quite the grimy place, but the casas are the great. Prices for the most part are now 150k Guaranis (about $35)
