dajudge, i would beg to differ many places are quite safe to walk in africa, you just need to make sure you know where you are going and don't look like a tourist. that being said i would not walk around dar, it is no where near as safe as other cities. also most of the place you want to visit are well spread out so it does not makes sense walking.

well let me actually chime in here as i have about 10 + years experience walking dar's streets, in literally every corner of the city, at every hour of the day, sober & drunk, name it, i've been there. the thing is, most people are just normal nice folks, and not prepared to just rob an mzungu who happens to be walking by. i've never once had a problem, and there were times i just walked right into a bunch of thugs and hookers, some doing drugs, whatever, and was like heh, excuse me, i'm looking for some hot tzed ass, where should i go? no problem, check out this place or that. but them again i'm a pretty intimidating fellow too. but the main thing is don't flash your nice phone or jewelry and for sure don't go to coco beach for a walk away from all civilization at night. they would rob a lion of it's mane then. and finally. ubungo plaza and terminal, anything near ubungo, i mean those are the really nasty spots to avoid. manzeza can be raw too, but yea all are fine compared to places like nairobi or lagos or jo'burg. where they will [CodeWord123] and murder your ass at the mall or in church.
