Don't bother to read this unless you like history or trivia. This is correct, Belvaros. The current day Republic of Moldova is only a very recent creation since 1991, following upon the dissolution of the Soviet Union. It is situated in the territory known as Bessarabia, which is located between the Dniester River in the east, and the Prut River which forms its western border with today's Romania. During most of the 1800's this area of Bessarabia was part of the Russian Empire, and since WWII it has been part of the Soviet Union. However, it is correct that following the Bolshevik Revolution these territories declared their independence from the Russian Empire and voted to unite with the Romania. Therefore, Bessarabia was part of Romania between WWI (1918) and WWII.

So according to that, you are correct that even people from the current Republic of Moldova could have grandparents from the same cities who are Romanian, like you say, since the area was part of Romania during the period between the World Wars. However, what I was getting at earlier was that even girls with a Romanian passport who are from eastern Romania, could also say they were Moldavian, since that area was part of the historic Principality of Moldavia.

Heading toward the end of my newbie 2-week trip (6 days in France in the middle to recuperate). I visited Oase twice, and once each for Palace, World, Colloseum (Augsburg) and Samya (Cologne).
