I walked to 4 7 Elevens in Ermita last night in search of a SIM card and none of them had anything. I started with my usual store next to G Point, and ended up god knows where. On my way back in utter disappointment I was propositioned by a bakla. I kept walking. Then I saw a guy on the sidewalk with a department store display case containing his wares. Something told me to ask that guy if he had any SIM cards. Lo and behold this mf pulls out a stack of SIMs from different companies. I cursed his ass out. I said so you are the mf that has gone to all the 7 Elevens and bought up all the damn cards huh? He started laughing. I asked how much he wanted for a Smart and he said 60 pesos. I gave him 50 and told him to sell one to the next person for 70 to make up the difference. I sat there with him until activation was confirmed on my phone then headed off to one of the previous 7 Elevens to buy a load and continue on to MBC.

While we're on the subject of G Point, I was in there 2 nights ago and made 2 observations. Notwithstanding my prior trips there over the years, I appeared to be, at 60 years of age, on the younger side of the age spectrum. The other observation was that in the "looks" department, the overall level of talent had diminished somewhat. I did however, meet a very pretty and sweet 38 kg Bicolana. Getting her out of the place took less than 5 minutes of chat.

Agreed on the age of the clientele. The guys in their 40s and 50s seemed outnumbered by pensioners. To be honest, my overall impression was that the lot tended to look rather disheveled. T-shirts, shorts, and 2 day growths of beard predominated. A guy who makes just a tiny bit of effort in his grooming ritual could have a comparative advantage there.

I'm just back from my first trip to Phils. Now I can see why all you guys are so hooked on the place. Except for a short beach trip, I set up hq in Malate. I spent most of my time meeting chat mates from DIA and will post some reports in the Chat Room section. I thought I'd also offer some first-timer impressions of Malate.

Casa on UN Ave: A local friend pointed out a casa on UN Ave near the del Pilar intersection. It has no name, but you can spot blinking neon lights around the window and a neon sign that says "Rooms Touts" I was worn out and out of time, but went by the check the place out so I could report here. The guard outside welcomed me in without questions. I found a large bar inside and a sofa area where the girls wait for customers. There were about a dozen girls there wearing identical blue evening gowns. In looks they were a cut above the typical MBC freelancers, though not the model types that I understand are in the higher in Burgos St bars. The manager quoted a rate of 2k for the bar and 300 for the girl and said rooms are available upstairs. I do not know if the rate is for ST or LT.

Robinsons Mall: I was in RM a LOT because I met my DIA contacts here and also did quite a lot of shopping. Evening meals are pleasing to the western palate and a refreshing change from Filipino cuisine. G-Point is a pleasant place to pick up freelancers if you don't like the chaos of MBC. Usually there are 15-20 girls looking for dates, ranging from average to pretty. I was there to recuperate and so didn't do takeout myself, though I got many smiles and invitations. G-Point definitely will be a regular stop on future visits.

Calle 5: Not a pickup spot, but good place to bring a date or meet friends when the weather is cool. It's an open air live music venue. The quality of the musical talent is pretty good and the food is decent, with just a small cover charge. Next door to Hobbit House bar on Mabini St.

Okay. You guys have drilled in me to take the yellow taxis outside of the airport. And I have done that each time. And each time they have tried to rip me off as well. I get in tonight and the guy starts pushing buttons on the meter like crazy. Then he is giving me his spill about if I had a reservation because the hotel is full bla bla bla. I told him that I come here all the time and of course I have reservations and it is not my first rodeo. I also tell him that I am off to Dumaguete in the morning and he wants to come take me to the airport. I tell him no thanks, it is much easier for me to walk outside and take the first taxi passing by. I knew he was up to something as they always are, so I took out 300 pisos and held it in my hand to pay him with. We pulled up at City State and I asked how much. He says look it says 419. I tell him bullshit. I told you I come here all the time. It is always about 250, but here is 300. I got my bags out of the trunk and walked into the hotel. He didn't try to protest.

Make sure the driver gets out of the car with you, otherwise, he might decide to take off with your bags in the trunk. Can happen, although unlikely to happen with a Yellow Cab. I noticed the Yellows started out all honest and clean. Lately they seem to be verging towards the behaviour of other cabs, not all that honest anymore. Shame, nice whilst it lasted.
