Cost per night, club premium room on the 9th floor was $104US and included all taxes and fees. I had not visited Santo Domingo this trip, but I was happy to spend the added days in Santo Domingo. 6 Dominicanas visited the hotel over the two days. I checked in around 10am and checked out around 4pm, no extra charge for early check in or late check out. Free wifi, free parking. 8 different flavored coffees for free in the lounge from 7am to 11pm, free red and white wine in the lounge (santa carolina from chile) , free bottled presidente beer, free snacks and breakfast food. All the rooms are newly remodeled, lots of granite. Restaurant near the first floor check in desk, made a good cheeseburger and fries. Pool, jacuzzis and a small gym, casino with some eye candy, cigar bar and lounge at the Barcelo Santo Domingo Hotel.

I visited Blue Mall and Agora Mall for the first time. Blue Mall is on Avenida Winston Churchill and will have a JW Marriott Hotel soon. Blue Mall is nice, a museum on the first floor was showing the exhibit "Bodies" (

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodies:_The_Exhibition

). Blue Mall has a balcony on about the 5th floor with a nice view.

Agora Mall is nice as well, lots of glass, including a glass roof and live palm trees. Agora Mall is on Avenida Lincoln and Avenida Kennedy.

Both malls have various lingerie shops which might be fun to visit with some Dominicanas.

This trip to the DR I visited no p4p venues. Dropped off two amigas at UASD (university) who had visited during a break from their bioanalysis class and saw some attractive UASD students. Near the Barcelo Santo Domingo hotel is UTESA and APEC Universities, both have attractive students. Club 60 bar / disco is also on Maximo Gomez about 5 minutes from the Barcelo Santo Domingo, I have not yet been inside Club 60. Some people still refer to the Barcelo Santo Domingo Hotel as the Barcelo Lina (its former name).

The old Franks money exchange location is empty, there is a money exchange place next door to where the old place used to be (calle reyes and el conde, zona colonial) , exchange rate of 40. 6 pesos for $1US dollar, Saturday February 9, 2013. Also changed money at a western union at either the blue mall or agora mall on Monday February 11, 2013, and I believe the rate was 40. 55.

I saw eye candy in zona colonial on Sunday afternoon around 4pm. Live music and people in carnival costumes walking around in the park, in front of the Cathedral and Hard Rock Cafe. Some pros out and about in that location as well on Sunday.

Ate at D'Luis Parrilada on the Malecon, late Saturday afternoon, there was a nice breeze coming off the water and in the open air of that restaurant the temperature felt to be around 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The baseball player Miguel Tejada visited D'Luis Parrilada with some friends that afternoon.

Santo Domingo airport has a western union on the second floor, could be a place to exchange money for arriving passengers.
Welcome back buddy! Did you really think you was going to set foot on the Island and not hit the Capital?

    Stay Safe in Santo Domingo

    EXCLUSIVE FOR DOMINICAN TODAY.

Santo Domingo- British ambassador Steven Fisher affirmed Tuesday that his government issues travel advisories to its nationals as 'objective assessments, ' in response to DT's inquiry on warnings quoted by several England media regarding London's cautions.

'The British Government's Travel Advice offers objective assessments of risks to British nationals visiting the Dominican Republic. * Armed street crime, particularly in Santo Domingo, is a problem, ' the diplomat said, noting that even two members of the Embassy staff have been mugged at gunpoint in separate incidents on the busy thoroughfare Bolivar Av. In the last six months.

British outlet telegraph. Co. Uk, quoting the Foreign Office warning over crime in the Dominican Republic, reports that the agency 'has updated its advice for British holidaymakers heading to the Dominican Republic, following recent reports of violent crime against tourists. '

Fisher also noted the recent armed assaults involving 20 US citizens in the same area. 'It is our responsibility to mention this in our Travel Advice. I am satisfied that our Travel Advice is objective and proportional. '

Telegraph. Co. Uk said the British Foreign Office reported the several crimes it affirms occurred in Santo Domingo. 'The majority of incidents have taken place in Santo Domingo, the country's capital city, with a number of tourists being mugged at gunpoint in broad daylight while travelling through residential areas, ' and also cite the incident on Bolivar Av.

'Visitors are being warned to take care when walking through isolated streets or when travelling on tourist scooters, especially at the night, and to avoid quiet, poorly-lit areas. Tourists are also advised to keep all valuables, including passports, in hotel safety boxes and not to carry large amounts of cash when outside of their hotel, ' the report said.

If you are over 50 you look a bit out of place hanging around a college campus

    Thanks

Revere, Mr. E, Gogo, Jao, and others, man you all are my idols. I love SD, but I'm still afraid of driving over there. Eventually I will breakdown and rent a car. With that being said, I do hire a driver, so I'm all over the place in Santo Domingo. Like you said, you have to get out and enjoy the city, not limit yourself to one one or two areas if you want to have a lot of success. With a driver you have to understand that most will try to take you where they get a kickback, but you are in charge, so I go where I want to go. I don't use tagged or any of the online sites, because even here in the States I prefer to hunt live prey. I see something I like, then I roll up to them. Revere, thanks for the basketball tip. I'm going to try that out when I go in May. On this last trip, I spent 5 minutes in a casa. 5 minutes, and I was out. I only went in because one of the dudes with me fell in love with casas. His partner quickly realized it was more to be had than what could be found in a casa. I admire that, even though his spanish is limited to hola and gracias. LOL
