I agree with Wonderer's assessment of general attitude regarding what "good" girls in China do and don't do. They do in fact need face with regard to having sex with strangers. In general most Chinese women are relatively conservative and having an "out" to save face is important. She can talk about this with her girlfriends if she chooses but still save face. More importantly she can still honestly claim she resisted a man's advances before succumbing to have sex thus she can keep her reputation and won't be labeled as a common. The semantics and actions are all gray for westerner's perhaps but in the mind of the Chinese woman, it is very much calculated and fairly black and white.
