Yes, you should have posted this question in the Medellin forum instead of the General Info forum.

I do not know about taking a taxi at the airport because I always arrange to have a driver waiting for me at the airport via the people I book with. It costs me 72,000 pesos, or $42 dollars. I'm sure getting a regular taxi at the airport can be cheaper, but my driver is in a regular vehicle versus a yellow taxi which just screams "this person is just coming from the airport and very likely has a laptop, smart phone, and a ton of cash on him". Plus he knows where he is going (to drop me off). Taxi drivers at the airport may know how to get you to Poblado, but if they do not know where your hotel or apartment is (handing them a piece of paper with an address on it may only give them a general idea of the area you are trying to get to. You will find this out if you do any Casa runs), and if you cannot explain it to them in Spanish, vas a tener muchas problemas amigo.

You asked a question about dress code under travel announcements so I will answer this first.

Dress Code: Never wear shorts. Imagine being in middle school and wearing shorts is not cool. Welcome to Medellin and Latin America in general. Jeans and Cargo Pants are fine. T-Shirts and collared shirts are fine. Regular sneakers are fine also.

Airport: Grabbing a cab off the curb at the airport is fine. Rate is 57k-60k. Either exchange a small amount at the airport or offer the cab $35 (65k). Since you are staying in an apartment, allow about 15 minutes extra to call a cab for your return trip to the airport. Cabs normal arrive to apartments in 5-10 minutes.

If you plan on coming back to Colombia, take $200+ in Pesos home with you so you don't have to rush to a cambio or the bank when you come back.

I guess if you like latin girls with white skin Colombia would be a great place. I would prefer a beautiful dark skinned peruana any day over a colombian girl. Actually I've seen more beautiful women in Tijuana than in Medellin.

Colombian chicas come in all colors from black to brown to white and all shades in between. I'm not sure they're the best looking in Latin and South America. But in my opinion they use the most make-up to beautify themselves. The hair styles, the makeup, the clothes, the high-heel shoes, and the cosmetics. We get to talking every day and last night she is really pushing to chat on Skype. So, I get home and login to Skype and we start to chat. She gets up for a few seconds disappearing from camera and comes back and we talk some more. Then she hears a knock on her door. She turns the computer around so I can see her go to answer the door. She opens it and a guy in a mask rushes in, she screams as he grabs her arm, she runs to the computer and disconnects from Skype.

A few minutes later (literally like 3-5 minutes have passed) she messages me via WhatsApp that she was robbed and they stole the computer in her apartment and that the computer belonged to her friend and she needs to pay him back. This is all such a terribly, terribly acted performance from start to finish that I almost feel compelled to give this poor heartbroken girl money because she really needs acting lessons. Drinking age is 18 and loosely enforced, yes a 19 yr. Old can go into any establishment.
