Paul, if you like South food the local has quite a few dishes. Southern Thai food was very foreign tasting to me at first, but after my second meal of Gaeng Luang and Kua Kling, I was hooked. A great place for South food is Janhom on Ramkhamhaeng 21. Really good and not so expensive, but be warned, the spiciest food you will ever eat.
We should have some ISG food meetups!

baan khanitha on soi 23, wanakarm on soi 23, isao sushi restaurant on soi 31, raan derm on soi 22, cabbages & condoms (a little touristy, but very good) on soi 12, monsoons on soi 8, & oskar's bistro on soi 11.
now if you really want to impress your date with how much taste and class you have and yet not break the bank, take her to bussaracum at 1 si wiang road (off soi pramuan, one block south of silom). www.bussaracum.com. it is not near asok or nana, but who cares if you have 2 hours to kill and you want to dine really well. after your date take the bts back to asok.
eat well!
plus one on isao. amazing place, but closed from the 7th till the 11th for their annual holiday. most thai food in the lower suk area is not so great and way overpriced for what you get. soul food mahanakorn on thong lor is great, bolan on 26, for isaan j goi at petchburi road near ratchatewi station will amaze. eatingthaifood. com is about the best blog i have seen for local obscure places.

Really good advice Mr E. All women are available. You just have to find the right key to open them up.

Save the BTS money and eat at a noodle stall, very tasteful too and patronized by office clerks too who can be classy too.

ME: sometimes I take my girls to elegant restaurants like Bussaracum on special occasions in which case we always take a taxi. More often I take my favorite Go Go girl to local places like "our" favorite restaurant, the Love Scene on Soi 23. What a place! She turned me on to it and you never know who you are going to bump into there, like another board member with his girl.
I too love street/stall food in BKK. There is a great little food scene developing on Soi 38 with a number of excellent stalls and closer to Cowboy, almost kitty corner across from the Admiral Premier, there is a very popular sidewalk restaurant that serves up very good food every night. I am getting hungry just thinking about it. So many great places to eat in BKK. There should be a thread just for BKK Eats.

if you really want to impress and location is also not the biggest issue go to chakrabongse villa's.
a wonderful place for a kind of privatie dinning. you will need the whole evening (and hopefully the rest of the night with the lady) but. the investment is paying back (for sure, at least when i did this).
maharaj road, direct to the chao phraya river.

High budget. L'Appart at the Sofitel Sukhumvit.
Casual indoor. Something at Terminal 21.
Both places about a 15 minute walk to NEP or SC.
