In Manila now.

1. Due to high season. Taxi's are very very hard to find. Sometimes it takes close to 40 minutes to find one and if you get lucky, its Plus 50 usually. Taxi drivers in Manila are still A*holes as they were before but gotten more due to X'mas. Use Caution. I mean they can really ruin your night out.

1A) From Airport, yellow Taxis are using Dual Meters, one for locals who know they use it, one for tourist. Sit in front, notice the Meter, If the Meter touches 100 Pesos from 70 even before exiting Airport Area. Call Him on it. And tell him you will complain. He will usually say. Ohh sir, sorry forgot BS and then readjust it with correct meter. Or better go to Departure gate from stairs and get the white taxi but still use the above caution.

2A) The taxi guys are still having 7-8 kids, wife working in Middle East, haven't seen wife for years, have mistress on the side, more babies. One taxi guy came from Province just for the X'Mas Season to make a killing. Has 7-8 kids back home. You can imagine the desperation.

If you can. Don't come NOW. Its madness in Manila. Traffic is very very heavy. And everyone is buying car on credit. Traffic is crazy.

Come After X'mas, January or Skip Manila. Go to A / see or other places.

2. Hotels are available but in some places. Prices have gone up. But you will find rooms. Book before you come. Due to X'mas the entire OFW is in Philippines

3. Manila is slowly becoming like Bangkok. KL. Things are becoming expensive with less on offer. MERALCO raised This month charges to 3. 44 kw / h. The highest increase ever. So make sure, you ask about the power rate before you check in to your condo or hotel. They will even though charge it in parts. The hotels, condo owners just giving excuses to increase the power rates now.

I searched many condos for long term stay through Sulit. They are all small rat holes with 20 to 25K per month. Even in BGC and Makati. If you are a big guy above 6. Don't book it through online. I'm afraid you won't be able to fit yourself in the bathroom. They are made Filipino size. I had known this before but wanted to check new condos being built all around. They are all for Midgets. Even midgets will find it offensive.

Now. To the good stuff.

Girls. Its plenty on offer. You can even get laid for free. Its all about luck, right timings. But the free girls are hard to let go off as they consider you as your own. I tried the craigslist option, Havana Cafe, DIA, Cupid. The quality is more or less same. Price 1000 to 2000 or just food and red horse. Taxi fare.

I saw many farangs in palladium, Green belt. Getting hit upon left and right but the guys getting wasted on endless drinks, some had to be carried on by security and put up near taxi stand. They seems to be going through lots of issues. They are here just to be here. Not really after girls. I mean I saw girls literally pulling one guy to take them and yet like some Hollywood celebrities, the guys being in their own zone and letting the girls go.

We ended up going two doors down to an apartment hotel that seemed quite new and clean. I am not talking about Amazonia, across the street and down the road. This one was actually on the same side of Del Pilar as MBC and only a few steps away from MBC. Very convenient. I think the 4 hour rate was around 500 but not sure.

Its a lot easier for guys paying for chicks to take pics. Ie They can set the terms, sex is transnational, etc. I will be dealing with normal girls I meet online, at the bar / club, or at the mall. All the girs get from me is a cheap lunch / dinner, a few beers, a movie, and taxi money.

It pops up every year or so as a story. Police have already derided it as a joke. I first was warned about it in 1996 when I came here on a 3 month work assignment, and I have seen it come up on slow news days every year since 1997 when I moved to Manila.

It might be effective if the driver stops his car and physically assaults or robs the victim by putting a towel over her nose and mouth, but any air-borne anaesthetic cannot be administered in sufficient concentrations in a taxi cab without the passenger being (a) very aware of it and (be) without the driver being seriously affected too unless he wears a full-face gas mask (which might cause a passenger to become suspicious.

Funny how it always happens to young women; never baklas (gays) , men etc.

people here are terrified! first criminals, murderers, [CodeWord127], etc escaped from the prison during the typhoon. police are searching for them but reports of breakins and robberies have been reported. and the people all claim to see "evil spirits" at night on the rooptops of buildings. the men and some women stay awake outside camping out at night. they build fires and watch for this "spirit" which is very fast, can climb and jump far and looks like a chimpanzee but very dark.

i got into trouble by telling her there was no evil spirit. she claims to have seen it one night on top of a neighbor's roof, along with many other people. i think the blackout and darkness have risen to the point of hysteria among the people. i had to send her money for a battery operated lantern and about 20 large candles which she burns nightly to look around and watch for the ghos or whatever.

FYI, my friend has a B. S. Degree from one of the top universities in the Philippines. She has worked at a few call centers for the last couple of years. Fortunately for me her oral skills are much better than her writing skills.
