i recently bought a used car (nissan altima) , and it needed some repairs. the horn did not work and the passenger powerwindow had a problem. the horn was a blown relay and the window was a damaged switch. he repaired it for 650 pesos. the car rode low and kept hitting the speed bumps, so i went a reccomended tire and shocks place, gomero springs. the put in new springs on my rear struts or shock (i don't know the difference). anyway. 2 guys worked for about 45 minutes to get the shocks out, then another 30 to take this plate off the top so they can put the new springs, the another 45 to reinstall. car is riding high, doesn't bottom out anymore at all, even with the car overloaded with people. 1500 pesos in total. can't beat that.

are you personally going in to repair shops or are you sending a trusted dominican to negotiate the price? i understand that you live there but i would imagine that you are still a gringo in their eyes and they would still try to charge you more than a local. not a lot more, but more none the less.

Me and my friend just decided to up and go to Santo Domingo last minute. We are leaving this Thursdays and don't know where to start. We are going to be staying in the capital, santo domingo. We don't know which hotel to stay at as yet because we don't know which hotels allow chicas. I know that santo domingo ain't for the newbies but that's our first spot we decided to hit. We need a trusted driver that knows English, a place where we can find chicas and a hotel that are chica friendly. Any help is greatly appreciated.

i like to drive in the dr. i'm a gringo but i live here. i have my own car, i have casa de conductor type of insurance, this is the type you need if you get into an accident. if you get into an accident they can lock you up for 2 days, with this insurance they can still lock you up, but it's more like a hotel than a jail. my friends tell me they usually let you go after they get your information, etc.

as for repairs, i've caused some damage to rental cars in the past and if you get someone to fix it for you, you will save a ton. i had a truck take off a side view mirror and hand it fixed for a few bucks. the repair guy is a friend and he made a fiberglass mold of the mirror (luckily the glass didn't break, just the plastic) painted it black and put it back on the car, the only difference is you could not fold the mirror back.

Bright lights. They only drive with high beams on. So get used to it in your rearview mirror and coming at you head on; especially from SUVs.

driving in santo domingo.

i thought i would give my thoughts on driving in santo domingo and some of the lessons i have learned that might be applied throughout the dominican republic. first, and most important thing to remember there are no rules to driving in santo domingo. that is the most important thing you must learn. if you remember that one thing, you will be fine driving if you forget you might get into an accident. i think many of you have read a story on this board that someone driving did not expect someone to drive by on there left and take a right in front of them or do some other aggressive driving move – well they will and do it all the time. if you understand there are no rules to driving there, you will not make that mistake. ' you must at all times use both driver side mirrors constantly to look for trouble on each side'.

taxis, busses and motor conchos job is to pick up passengers and make money. why is that important to know because they can stop anywhere at any time to pick up or drop off a passenger they do not care about you and as such you need to drive, accordingly. a taxi will speed past you on your left to get in front of you to stop on your right in an instant. this move will happen to you all the time. get use to it and drive, accordingly.

another thing, do not wait for a driver to give you the right away and be respectful most times they will not and you can not be upset by this – that is just how they drive there do not take it personal.

driving around is not that hard if you get lost. 'so what' you might use it as a pick up line. i use being lost all the time asking a pretty chica where something is most of them never know and who cares you will be shocked how many girls you can pick up just offering them a ride down the street. being nice and respectful, can work wonders to meeting girls and a car can be a great ticket to enter the game.

to me the cost benefit analysis is well worth any concern about driving. first, if i hire a taxi he is taking me to point a to point b. you limit yourself in my opinion with a driver because to me a lot of fun is just driving around and taking things as they come. at night, you can go anywhere and if something is not poping you keep it moving at a much lower cost than a driver.

now, if you do get in to a simple accident and i have it was my fault breaking my rule not using both mirrors and scratched a column. what do you do where do you go? if you do not want a problem with the rental my advice take it to the barrio. theses guys are great! and you would not believe how cheap they are. again, i scratched my driver's right side panel and he fixed for 3, 000 pesos. the only problem i had is he did such a good job and fixed all the other scratches the car had when i took back to the rental they thought the slip was wrong, but they did not care in the end.

getting stopped. this is a tough one. you have to go with you gut and instinct on what to do. i know some might not agree, but late night if i was stopped and giving 100 pesos solves a problem i am doing it without hesitation. i am not applying principle or ethics if i a buzzed or on the move. other times, i might play i do not understand what they are saying. purely, your own judgment call. lately, i have not been stopped, but i drive a lot like them speeding past police cars i know strange, but obeying the rules is one way they know you might not be from there and a lot of times when you get stopped because they know you are a gringo. strange; i know, but true.

I have been to DR many times. The DR have women beautiful and I love visiting. But my only complaint is DR girls do not know how to give proper head. They seem to only be willing to go as far as the head or maybe a inch past the head of the penis.

I was in Sto Domingo three days. Had 5 girls for a total of 13 sessions (could not pop on the last one- must be getting old). They are Chica Friendly, hell I had the night Front Desk clerk offer me a girl before. I think it was a cousin of his or something. They do make copies of the ladies I'd. They really take care of you there. Before they let the girl leave they will call you room to make sure you ok and to make sure you are not missing anything.

So get in good with the security, they will watch for you and your car if you rent one. Parking is street parking. At night the street are empty so find a space is no problem, but in the morning during the day there is no parking there. So you might want to leave the car parked at during the day.

It is not far from El Conde a shopping area where independent girls walk and also Independence Park another good scouting location. For the price you cannot beat Luis V, AC rooms, soft bed and possible upgrade to a room with a hot tub for 30 more dollars. They have a bar and the Wifi works sometimes.

I use Luis V as my 1st hotel to stay in for a day or two until I get ready to see the other parts of DR.

Flew into sto dgo Wed on my way to las terranas. My boy was in town so I hung out for 2 days. Stayed at the Barcelo. Its nice! Out of my norml price range, but worth it. Registered for two, with the club option for 93 a night. Included breakfast and beer, wine and snacks on the 9th floor at the club. Quick report. Hit Gold disco wed night. Lots of hot girls. Groups of girls with bottles at their table. I guess semi or non pros. Two ok looking girls let me know they were available. I passed. My boy was with a chick, so I broke off and went to pastuer. Wasting a girls time will cost you 200p. Also inviting a girl to sit with you will be 100p minimum.
