Or they were not as good as those who tricked SamLondon.

"beware a favorite scam that is frequently encountered in main tourist areas, especially if you are a solo traveler walking alone. a large packet of money will suddenly appear on the ground in front of you. almost immediately a "local" will appear exclaiming, usually in english,"hey, look at that!" he'll pick it up and flip through it. his enthusiasm is infectious. he will look around and see no owner. the line that follows may vary from "come on, it's our lucky day!" to "in my country it is traditional to share good fortune". shortly thereafter the "owner" of the dropped money will appear. by this time the happy stranger will have concealed the money on his person and claim no knowledge of it. the owner will then demand to see your wallets. the money-finder will happily show his, whereupon the owner will demand to see yours. while your wallet is open for inspection, the finder will do his best to distract you. while this is going on, the owner will swap out bills in your wallet. leaving a ten for your hundred, or a five for your fifty. it's all about speed and distraction. you won't discover the switch (if you do at all) until much later. so if you see a wad of money on the ground. just keep walking and ignore its "finder".

Thats an old trick, it happened to me in my first or second trip 7- 8 years ago, but I had read about it so I just kept walking faster didn't say anything to the first guy, as I was walking and the guy was chasing me I raised my hand and pointed to the traffic cop and the guy just ran away

Location: Outside a hotel next to Rio Striptease and across the road from Club Avalon / Club Ajour. Time 6pm.
Walking back to the hotel. Just pass entrance to Rio and in front of nearby alley, a respectable looking guy bends down and picks up a pile of Euros in a travel exchange plastic wallet and pretends he has just found it there on the floor.
Makes eye contact with me, makes out all innocent and asks "not yours?"
I say No!
He says "Lets go here and we share this between us". And leads me into the alleyway.
He takes out the money and shows me the plastic wallet to confirm that its a proper wad of money.
Just then, we are surprised by a 2nd guy who comes into the alley shouting "Excuse me, Excuse me! I dropped my money, have you guys seen it?
We protest our innocence.
The 2nd guy ask to check our money "I know I had 50euro bills, let me check your money". Before giving you a chance to think, the 1st guy takes out his own wallet and allows the 2nd guy to ruffle through it and he has his wallet returned to him.
At this stage you feel compelled to do the same, so I take out my wallet and allow him to ruffle through it. While he is doing this, the 1st guy takes out some other loose bills from another pocket and allows 2nd guy to examine this also (This is the clever bit). This is timed perfectly so that your eyes are drawn away from your own wallet and towards what the 1st guy is giving to the 2nd guy.
Everyone is given their wallets and money back whilst the 2nd guy is threatening to call his girlfriend to who he now claims saw us pick up the money.
In this commotion, we are drawn back out the alleyway towards the main road. When we get there, the second guy suddenly notices the end of the plastic wallet sticking out from the 1st guys pocket. Reaches out and snatches it out of the pocket. A minor scuffle breaks out between them before the 1st guy rushes off accross the street persued by the 2nd guy towards Club Avalon / Ajour.
You obviously make a hasty exit from the scene.
Its only afterwards when you have your presence of mind back again that you reach for your wallet and go through to see if anything is missing.
He had left me a few $5 bills that I had but lifted all by $100 bills ($600). He has obviously done this whilst I was distracted in the alleyway.
As a Londoner, I thought I was pretty street-wise and couldn't be conned but these smart and slick Kiev lads have shown me that there is more than one kind of talent that Kiev has to offer in abundance.
Enjoy your visit to Kiev but as with visits to Casinos, only go with money you are happy to lose.
How quickly you lose will depend on the talent that seeks you out (aka. They saw you coming!)
Enjoy

Posts: 241I think its not a bad idea to carry just 100 grivna in your pocket when you go outside your apt to meet a girl and if this happens just give the guys what you have in your pocket, its better than a punch in the face and a broken nose. But what if they want to enter your apartment??
There are many profiles of your girls (18-21) on mamba with just one photo.
The problem is law enforcement in UA is very very weak and corrupt and criminals know that too

Hi mongers, I have been to Kiev and one should just hit Khreshatyk Street (near mcdonalds) to find truck load of beautiful girls. Please do not get in touch with dating sites and others things similar. They are all a scam.
Just see a local on the street and ask her if she needs money. In some cases they will say no and in some yes. Its hits and misses. Some ukranian girls are conservative so getting them is not so easy but they are very nice girls. Extremely pretty on an average easily 7. 5-8/10. Tell them you want to go to Odessa and don't mind paying them for their company. This is what I did. Book a room and fuck them happily. They can invite friends too. I was there for a few days and had amazing fun. Try going to Avalon in Kiev, amazing place to get some prost. Other nice bars and clubs have face curfew so getting in is not so easy.
Going rate was about 900-11000 UAH for an hour which is super cheap comparing other cities.
Have fun and stay safe,
Cheers

If you do answer and still do not see her, then just ask her to stand where you asked her to stand. If she does not show on that spot or hangs up, then you have been saved from a possible problem. It is not a 100% foolproof but it will help, especially late at night.
Do remember as CB said, police here are completely useless so you need to make sure that you take every precaution to ensure your safety. Kiev is generally a very safe city. However, since Maidan, a lot of very doubtful and criminal types have come into Kiev to take advantage of the situation. Foreigners are considered an easy mark but while chances are very slim that you will be a victim, it does pay to be aware.

An American buddy of mine who has been living in Kyiv for seven years sent me a warning this evening. He said he was chatting with a student aged woman on mamba last night and they agreed to meet for a few hours at his flat for 800 UAH. As he is not new to the scene here in Kyiv, he told her his building address but was careful not to tell her his apartment number. Like me, he prefers to meet her outside of his building to make sure she looks like her photos and everything is on the level. Well, she called and informed him she had arrived and was waiting outside of his building. When he went out to meet her he was greeted by two men who immediately confronted him and, in broken English, demanded money or they'd beat him. There was no sight of the woman. However, my buddy speaks impressive Russian and started to not only threaten to call the police but to call some contacts he had in the government who'd be happy to assist him (none of it true). The men were taken aback by this and gave him enough space to successfully separate himself from them and hurry to the street where there were plenty of people about.
I asked him to forward me her mamba profile. When I contacted her about it she blocked me immediately. She has since changed her location from Kyiv to Zhitomir: http://www.mamba.ru/mb1154126277/alb...126279#/closed
In Kyiv right now there is a serious lack of police presence. I recall during my trip to Kyiv in 2010 there were police everywhere. Not so much now. In truth the police are nearly useless anyway. Mongers must be aware of the current situation in Kyiv and Ukraine.
