There you go. I can never remember the name. Yes, first time I landed in Lomar, the young man there when I ordered lunch went to Porto Fino to get food and that is how I learned of the connection, perhaps valid at that point of time.

Re the other restaurant, I do not recall the name, but it was a big place. This was in 2012 when I was a relative newbie in the DR. I must have eaten a lot for I thought a long walk would do me good.

Portofino. There is a hotel and a restaurant. Sometimes both under the same ownership, sometimes not. I had no idea that Portofino Hotel and Lomar were under the same management (assuming they still are, these things are always changing).

Incidentally, you had maybe the best restaurant in Puerto Plata city proper* a hundred metres away. (Henley could take a taxi). La Tarappa was started by a former manager of the Portofino Restuarant. It is Italian style. Not cheap, and you may not have wanted to spend that much on the two women you were with.

*Though there are some highly recommended "boutique" restaurants outside the city nearer to Costambar and Cofresi.

It turned out it was a nice spot that is very affordable, especially considering the ocean view (second floor and up affords the nicest scenery). Room had plenty of hot water, cable, fridge, two beds, and air conditioning. Also, I had internet in my room, something I didn't expect based on earlier reviews. It went out for a few hours, but internet in the lobby worked the entire time. There's some wear and tear, but so what.

I have to agree that the Henley report was a lovely read. Also because I am familiar with the locale. I would not stay in the their first floor rooms but the third floor room, facing the ocean was a lovely spot. 1300/1400 pesos?

Good stuff, Henley. I am sure you have inspired others to try that formula. I live a few minutes from Lomar and people are always asking me about it. I can refer them to your post from now on and avoid all responsibility!

However, I think you were very lucky to score three out of three with Facebook contacts (when not "trusted" repeats). Other guys might need to have a backup plan. It seems you did not actually pick anyone up on the Malecon. I would not go hunting there at night but you could meet girls in the day and take contact numbers. If all else fails you could take a cab to Field of Dreams rathe than pass a lonely evening. Cristal is at the end of the Malecon. You could try to take phone numbers there, too.

What did you room cost?

I would never arrange for a girl to visit from as far away as Santo Domingo. I would not want to lock into that commitment in case I did not like her once she arrived.

Room had plenty of hot water, cable, fridge, two beds, and air conditioning. Also, I had internet in my room, something I didn't expect based on earlier reviews. It went out for a few hours, but internet in the lobby worked the entire time. There's some wear and tear, but so what.

My first afternoon, I walked to the Serena (the big store nearby. I changed out some money at Western Union, got a bite to eat upstairs (decent cafeteria), and picked up some snacks and drinks for the room and headed back. Took a taxi back to the Lomar for 150 pesos. Seemed cheap to me. I know motocochos are cheaper, but I'm a bigger guy and I'm not comfortable riding 'them.

My big plan was to meet 3 girls that I'm Facebook "friends" with. I was looking to spend some time with some semi-pros, with girls that would give a GFE experience. For me, the Sosua scene is really starting to feel like a hustle. Maybe if I could speak more Spanish it would be better, but that's not the case. Each beauty agreed to spend the night with me. Does anyone know that bar, and is it a hangout for available chicas?

For some bucks and not that I recommend it but I have been able to take girls in and out of Playa Dorado without any problem and also the one time I was in a Boca AI. Really only worth it if you have a regular or two you want to spend some time with, talked with security, payed 40 bucks, they took the girls ID and gave her a wrist band. The girls actually really thought it was cool the way they were treated. Just like a tourist staying there. And to be honest on Sundays working girls are in alot of these AI. I was recently in a really nice AI in Punta Cana and Sunday there were working girls inside. Not a strategy for most here just saying for informational purposes.

As you say, not something you want to overdo. A constant change of chicas probably wouldn't fly, but you could probably salvage and "fix" the wrist band for use with another girl.

Maybe a strategy best used by Spanish-speakers who know how to deal with the locals.

I have found it best to go with a "special" girl, as the rooms are usually priced for double occupancy.

In my case, its my novia, but for others, a short stay at another place (BB?) to hold "auditions," letting the girls know the winner gets to stay at Playa Dorada for a few days.

Puerto Plata and Sosua are separated by some distance and are different in nature. Sosua (still?) has lots of hookers on the streets / bars at night; Puerto Plata does not. Check real estate websites for Sosua, Casa Linda is an option for villas, but you can't have "Animal House" parties, and you still have to go back and forth to Sosua to find women and bring them back to the villa.

Check websites for Costambar. There are villas in Costambar for rent. Costambar is where BlackBeard's is located, and you could pay a small fee to take girls off the premises to a villa.

Why a villa? Do your buddies like to cook? No all-inclusive resort will allow chicas coming in and out.

Also suggest you email BlackBeard's and Field of Dreams. They are very good options for a group of four guys. FOD will almost certainly have rooms for your group. Just across the road from the resort / golf course and a whole complex to yourself.

Also. Consider booking accomodations at a place in Playa Dorada and also keeping a room or two rented for the same time at FOD.

You can eat and drink at an all-inclusive (I recommend the Barcelo).

You can cross the road to party with chicas and return to the resort. To rest.
