You're right I don't know him. All I can go by is his behavior here. Based on that I know that he is critical of the activities of others, including fairly common activities like anal. Fuel prices here in the US are about half of what they were last year. Yet the airfares to BKK are up. THAI wants 1200 American dollars for coach, LAX to BKK. EVA has a $1,000 price differential between coach and premium economy. WTF?? I'm guessing these kinds of prices may keep a lot of Yanks at home, too.

My experience with regard to airfares is that the fares are way down. I just flew from Las Vegas to San Francisco to Tokyo to BKK for $850 on ANA. That's at least $400 less than I usually pay this time of year. Since the flights were not full, I expect fares to drop some more to fill some of those empty seats.

Synergies, I completely agree with you. I am visiting LOS in Feb. I went through this post today morning and found it quite strange to react to. I will stick to my usual process wherein I find the girl or vice versa.

I would definitely not be comfortable in such a offer as it would get my mind thinking in wrong direction and however genuine would not feel safe to go through with it.

At least in Patpong, I understand there has been some sort of crackdown since last year.

I was in one last April and it was all back closet or go to hotel. I picked the brains of one lady and she told me that the police liked to pop in from time to time. Also, they didn't like customers who looked Thai, or anybody who was reasonably fluent in Thai. (One Asian-looking guy came in, they chatted with him for a minute and he left. She told me he was looking for on-site BJ and they told him it wasn't available. They also "quizzed" me, and some other farang, to make sure our Thai wasn't up to snuff) Apparently the fuzz are not above sending in "secret shoppers" to ask about on-site services. (Technically, the closet action is verboten, too) If they found on-site hanky-panky I guess everybody got a free ride in a police car, or were asked to contribute to the FOP's widows and orphans fund.

Who cares if our Thai is up to scratch or not? How do you know that being fluent in Thai matters to them? Where is the sense or purpose? I can speak Thai but so what? Might just mean police would speak to me in Thai instead of English, however obviously my English is better than my Thai.

Actually the baht has weakened against the USD. We were at 29 not so long ago, now we are almost at 33 and I am loving it. Hope to see 35. Might be time to take that trip to the Ukraine of Russia.

The OP was discussing year over year tourism which is why I did a YOY currency comparison. Widen the date range and you will see different results. I can also remember the days of both the 29 and 35 currency exchange handles. One is certainly better than the other.

Flying out of Dallas on Emirates you can get a fare close to 1 k USD.

I've seen prices to BKK for $700 from SFO. However, I don't live in either place, so I'm stuck with LAX.

I asked GF to check prices to MEX. Damn if AirAsia X doesn't have prices under $400 are / T BKK. MEX. That would be perfect except she tells me no Thai company will allow workers to take 2 weeks of vacation all at once. Plus, I have no idea how difficult it is to get a visa.

It looks like I'm relegated, for the first time since 1999, to flying coach. But, damn, I don't see the value in an extra $1,000 above premium economy. Assholes.
