Hola Dudes,
I'm a few days out from my first trip to Medellin, and had a question for the board. I'm currently booked at a Hotel in the heart of Poblado. Let's say I'm getting towards the end of my trip, and want to get out of the gringo area. What barrio would you recommend I checkout that still has a local area of cafes, restaurants, bars, and relatively safe, but less "Touristy" than Poblado?
Many Thanks,
Judd.

From what I understand, a small possession of cocaine for personal use in Colombia is legal. Please correct me if I am wrong.
My last trip I didn't have any problem finding coke to try, and was even given some as a gift by local Colombians when I expressed interest in trying their local product. I told them I bought some in Parque Lleras in Medellin and they laughed in my face telling me if was sub par to what they had. I am not talking about drug dealers, I am talking about what I seemed to be normal middle to upper class Colombian who spoke good English and ate or drank in the bars / restaurants around Parque Lleras. For them they said it was something they did on weekend as a pick me up or a little something extra to add to their party.
I am not a drug addict and I don't even do drugs when I am at home living a normal life or working a proper job, but when I travel I like to live life to the fullest and do what locals do.
Since I plan to make another trip to Colombia this summer, I am curious to go on one of these cocaine making tours, as an an experience and also try to try to product at it's more uncut form. So if anyone has info on how to join one of these tours, I very much appreciate it.
Please don't view this as a post to encourage anything illegal or expose an evil truth about Colombia.

Hello fellow mongers,
Can you guys recommend some dating sites that have a lot of girls who are open to P4P.
I am not not looking for a wife or full time girlfriend, just looking to do some home work before my trip in July.
I am honest and upfront with the girls on my intentions. I am not trying to mislead them into thinking more than just a good time for money.
I am planning to go to Cartagena if that makes a difference of more activity on certain sites.

Use one of these. I live in medellin and always have them in my place. Also, don't be shy to ask the ladies what kind of contraceptive they use? "Con que planificas amor?

Stepping up and doing the right this is respectable in our culture but not in Colombia or anywhere else in Latin America for that matter.

Anyone ever get a part time girlfriend pregnant in Colombia? I got one girl pregnant in DR and daughter is now 7. Never had problem with mother. Once I had test run to make sure baby was mine, I send money monthly which is minimal and visit a few times per year.
But now if true I got this girl pregnant in Colombia. So I am heading there next month to get things checked out. It wasn't an accident I just am wandering if they have more stringent laws. Hopefully I can just work it out with girl, once baby is confirmed mine. I don't have problem with money I just want to keep it a fair amount.
Anyone that's been in this situation any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Carry a copy of your passport, leave the real thing in the hotel. While you are traveling, and not checked into a hotel, do not put all your valuables together. Put money and credit cards in various parts of whatever type of luggage you are carrying. Do not use a backpack to carry valuables; have them in something that you can see at all times. That's just a few of the major precautions, I'm sure others have more.

As for the other scams, that's old news. My advice is be very alert in the crowded commercial areas of Bogota where there's lots of people on the streets shopping or going from store to store. Don't stop for anyone no matter what they try to distract you with and if someone brushes by you, move away quickly.
The scope scams aren't hard to avoid; Colombian women are conservative, they never make the first move, even the putas in Colombia are like this. Any chica that's flirting with you or approaches you cold is either a puta desperate to make some easy money, or possibly a member of one of those scope gangs the TV crew exposed.
Gringos who go down there and are not familiar with the Colombians and their habits and behaviors get easily confused by this, they compare with some of the women back home who behave in a similar flirty fashion, and so think that's normal down there.
Or they conflate the friendliness of Colombians in public daytime settings with night venues that have a more sexual atmosphere. Which as I've just explained is not the case at all.
Always make the first move, and ignore the more aggressive and assertive chicas, and you should be fine.
As for the drinks, I try to stick with beer bottles, or bottles of rum, LOL, it's harder to pour poison down a narrow bottleneck.
Once I order a drink in Bogota, it never leaves my hand until I finish it. I even take it with me to the bathroom, LOL, I don't care about any strange looks I get.
If I get distracted by someone who wants to chat with me, I'll instinctively bring the bottle to my chest, and cover the opening with my thumb.
