Had a airline booking from hell which I had consciously accepted. I have stayed at Cuenta Victoria Court a few times before. I couldn't be bothered walking out, checked wechat, could only find a few ladyboys and regular massage joints and I fell asleep about 1 am.

Interestingly, you're take on Thailand vs PI is opposite what I would claim. I'd say that women are in fact more expensive in Thailand (Bangkok) than in PI generally. But for everything else, PI is more expensive. 5000 php girls from Burgus are probably the high end of the spectrum in manila. You can pretty easily find girls for 3000 php or cheaper if you know where to look. Take Angeles for example higher end bar fines are 3 k there. All in. Not like Burgos where its 2 or 3 k barfine then another 2 or 3 k to the girl depending on what you negotiate.

I do agree with you though that language is a huge advantage for PI. Chances of getting a GFE in PI is much greater.

On further reflection, I thought I would mull the question: How does the PI compare to the reset of SE Asia? Or other fun countries for that matter?

Firstly, on the ladies themselves. Their look is different from, say, Thais and Vietnamese. In addition to slightly darker skin, Filipinos have some Spanish / European in their ancestry. So they have bigger eyes. I thought that Filipino babies were some of the cutest I have ever seen. Asian faces / features, but with these big expressive eyes. That being said, I would say that I still prefer the more classical asian look lighter skin, slender figures, more delicate features.

As for the punting scene per se, in Thailand you have many options Soi Cowboy girly bars, soapy massage, oily massage, and other less conventional venues. In the PI, you don't have anywhere near that kind of variety. Its almost completely just girly bars. But despite that, prices in the PI are actually higher than in Thailand or Vietnam..

I did this exact route the other day. After turning right on Recto, I saw 2 KTV clubs on the right side before getting to the Isetaan Plaza. At around 2 pm, neither had any clients. You have to buy 2 or 3 beers at a time I was told. I bailed on each because being the only one and also, I saw only 1 girl in each of the bars who looked hideous. Did alot of shopping at the mall though, great place to be, girls super friendly to chat up. Locals tell me however, you do not save alot by shopping there from the street vendors, but I was happy with purchases made.

I didn't see any girls, but I wasn't really looking for them. I was there looking for textbooks.

But what I do remember was the great food by the street vendors. I turned right on Recto, and walked toward the universities. Part of Recto St. Is an overpass over another highway. There was this guy selling fried calamari sticks. You paid him, and he gave you one of those bbq wooden skewers, and you skewered some fried calamari. I watched everyone skewer three big pieces per stick. I asked the vendor how much it was, and he help up 3 fingers. I assumed he meant 30 pesos, only to later realize that he literally meant 3 pesos.

I had lunch on that overpass. Despite my initial hesitation, I didn't get sick at all, and it all tasted great.

My first walk was down Rizal St, heading North from Carriedo Station towards Recto, walking on the east side of the street. If you walk on the footpath proper, you'll eventually see signs for various stripper joints. I went in one along the way that advertised 8 girls. I walked up the stairs, into a completely dark room with faint disco lights flashing. A man clapped his hands (presumably calling the girls) and invited me in for a drink. Needless to say, I was the only foreigner there (in fact possibly the only foreigner in Quiapo!) but enjoyed the 45 PHP beer. Retracing my steps, I went down Recto and left onto Rizal, walking on the west side now, which is much emptier than the east side- a couple of closed bars, some money changers and a grocery store. Before too long, probably midway between Carriedo & Recto, a cute girl caught my eye. Her mamasan quickly diverted my gaze and asked if I wanted her. She began an intense marketing pitch - "she very young!" Another warning phrase. I asked how young and got simply, "very young! She looked to be about 18/19, but I wanted to be sure. I asked if she had ID. She didn't, but the mama insisted the hotel around the corner knew her and would let her in. Again, Admiral Akbar's words entered my head. Getting jumped in the last situation was probably better than having cops called with an underaged girl in this one. I bid adieu and headed to the Carriedo station. (On another note, the new BEEP card, which you buy from a queue-less machine for php100 for about 10 round trips is amazing and a game changer for fast movement in manila.).
