I don't know how they would do the DNA test for DS. Maybe a close family member of his would submit his DNA along with theirs.
Thanks, and thanks for the PM as well. I was told earlier this week, but Embassy staff in Manila that the Cebu Consulate could not offer this service, and that the applications, supporting evidence and interviews would all have to be done in Manila. I'll try to confirm this tomorrow. I was also told that while DNA evidence might have to be submitted, it is not always required. There's quite a bit about this situation that makes it, if not unique, then certainly unusual, so the hurdles to be jumped by these kids might be more difficult.

The establishment of US citizenship after the death of the American parent is, though not impossible, difficult to do, particularly if the mothers are relatively unsophisticated, lack the means to travel to Manila with their child, and don't understand how to fill out the requisite paperwork.

It's going to be a long slog, and at the end, I don't know how many of the kids are going to end up with US Passports.

If he had not done that then the respective mothers can still apply for US citizenship for the children and then the benefits. How ever they will need DNA samples of DS for the application thru the USA Embassy.

Totally agree, even if you are going to be a deadbeat father, at least file papers in the home country to obtain benefits for the child.

A tip to those who wants to father a child. File paternity papers even if means child support payments. At least when the child is older he or she can settle in his country.

    Pico Belo

I had written my review of this place after my first visit to the new site. Since then I've been back twice, amd I have to agree with Sam 14. The old restaurant had a wood-fired pizza oven and made excellent pizzas. The new place does not. Plus, I found the so-called Italian foods fairly mediocre. The overall quality of the food at Swiss Deli is much higher. I also agree with Sam that by far the best pizza in town is to be found at Spirale, which does have a wood-fired oven. I suggest however asked for additional tomatoes at an additional cost of Php50.

Yes Raj. I would say FC is worth the price for a month membership. Better yet, pay for 2 months and get 1 free. Just be polite. The girls are shy and they may be hard to get. There's street meat, big KTV clubs that are expensive, and the bars mentioned below by Ms. A. But it's not a very good mongering destination, as mentioned. All the best to you, and let us know how you make out.

Allot of these streets have a second name that they use instead of the real name. I was on Anda St once looking for Iņigo Street and no one knew where it was. Anda Street is actually Iņigo Street.

Much of the restaurant seating is on a roofed, outdoor terrace on the second floor of a two story shopping center directly across the road from Monte Ritz. The value for money here is quite good and a decent dinner for two with wine can be eaten for about $40-45. GE.
Thanks for the reviews, I hadn't heard of the White House. Picabello is still one of my favorite restaurants. But the old location in mall was way better. It's inexpensive, the service is extremely friendly and attentive, and I love the food. But there's only one dish I ever order, and it's not pizza. I don't know why anyone orders the pizza. The only good pizza in the city is at Spirali IMO. I do not like the new location of Picabello, and the ambiance is even worse. It's just far enough off the super highway that thank God, you don't smell the diesel smoke. But what you do hear are those trucks rumbling up the highway blowing their horns that are too loud to be on an ocean vessel. If anyone hasn't seen one of these things, they are hideous. If the ancients could see one, there would be hieroglyphics on the cave wall of these horrible screaming monsters blowing out clouds of poisonous smoke. It's an open air place, like you said, and it's got Filipino favorites coming out of crappy speakers with no bass. There's banging and clattering from the kitchen, and wooden chairs being dragged around. Dinner time is usually crowded so the whole place is in a roar over the top of all that. So I just go there, scarf, and get out.

It's a commercial complex, like you say, so the CR is way down the hall. There's no ass wipe and no soap. Not just this time, but last time, and the time before. And last month, and 3 months ago. You would expect that in any Filipino mall or restaurant, but this is supposed to be a notch up, I thought. It used to just bug me a little but what compelled me to write this tonight was when my waiter that was about to bring me bread was in there taking a [CodeWord140]. (In fairness, there is a sink hidden in the corner of the restaurant with soap, but I've never seen anyone us it, including my waiter. The woman cleaning the place was also in CR. I asked her where's the soap? "No soap. " I said it's a CR, why? "I don't know. " I do know. Because it's not even a thought. If you go in there and you see ADD SOME FUCKING SOAP written in permanent marker across the thing, it's me.

RIP, DS; Let The Banshees in Clare beware

Thanks for the news, GE. Only met the Slayer one time for the baptism of one of his children in Davao. What an experience. He was not a shrinking shamrock, by any stretch. If aunt Mathilda preceded him, I am sure he will be giving her a rousing revival when he arrives.

Will walk many a mile without meeting the measure of the old boy. May his memory be held dearly by those who loved him. Peace and comfort to his family.

    Bar visits in Davao

Visited Davao for 4 days to visit a regular.

One night went to Hot Legs (2?) and Ms I on Palma Gil near the Royal Mandaya hotel. Both a waste of time despite previous good reports on Ms I by both me and others previously. Then walked up to the other Ms I branch which is halfway between the Marco Polo and Gaisano mall in a side street. This a larger Ms I but also a waste of time.

Went to Claude's restaurant on another night and walking back to Marco Polo stumbled across Hot Legs 3 in Anda street (?they told me it was Anda street but I can't see this street on the map). Worse than Hot Legs 1 and 2.

On Saturday night went to Hot Legs (1?) and Babyface on San Pedro (near Myhotel). Both were very busy. At Hot Legs after the shower routine all the girls get up to dance together. There were 16 girls of which 1 was a standout. Slim tall pretty face nice boobs. Even pretty for Burgos standards but it was clear she was the prized girl as she was the central girl who did the pole dancing with all others shuffling around watching her. Sorry should have got her name because well worthwhile going to Hot Legs San Pedro if she was there and wasn't tabled. Ended up at Babyface which was also packed. For the first time for my Davao experience I barfined. In the dim light was attracted to a petite girl pretty face having worked there for a week. But in the harsh light of the hotel room, baby stretch marks and saggy mother boobs dimmed my enthusiasm.

All up if you visit these bars frequently enough you may stumble upon a gem.

I enjoyed reading his posts and though I've never been to Davao he quirked my interest enough to make me want to visit at least once in my life. May his soul rest in peace!

    Rest in Peace DragonSlayer

I enjoyed exchanging a lot of PMs with him, and he gave me a lot of good advice (and some of it that only applies to him, I cannot use).

I feel sad that while was wondering why his forum was so quiet, it turns out he passed away.

I want to thank him and keep his memory alive, he is the reason I discovered Davao City and keep enjoying unforgettable memories there.

    Thank you

Yes I have enjoyed all his contributions for many years. I wish him the best on his journey.

Re post from DS forum (something we rarely did when the big man was alive).

    Thanks GE.

Sad news as I had noted he was not on the board and not YM either where I usually was chatting with him.

Having known him for some time but nowhere near as long as you, he was a good guy despite his demeanor at times. We all have flaws and DS certainly had his but he looked after his extended family well. All the children etc and never shirked those responsibilities, unlike many others in Asia.
