Just got back from my annual Manila / Ermita visit. As usual, I spent my time between LA Cafe (formerly known as Manila Bay Cafe) and Amazonia Bar with a little side-mongering for SW.

LA has gotten a bad rap in recent years, but I find it's still a nice place that's usually packed to the gills with girls. Not as pretty as those you will find in the KTVs or in EDSA, but plentiful and (very) eager to please. I don't usually care only about looks. Don't get me wrong. Plenty of hotties in LA as well, but just a broader spectrum.

I usually take a beer and then pick a girl to ask over to talk to. If you invite them for a beer (95 to 150 pesos) they are more than happy to spend time with you. What's their alternative? Sitting on a chair and looking around? If you spend some time talking to the girls and are nice to them they will gladly go with you. Usually I pay 2 k for LT and 1200 for ST.

What LA has done, what I don't get at all, is they are forcing the girls to buy drinks at regular intervals. For some of these girls this is simply not possible so every once in a while the bouncer will round them up and kick them out. EASY pickings at that point.

LA is not high-end, but always fun and never lonely.

Amazonia is smaller and a bit more hard-core. Some girls do 20 hour shifts and at the end of their shifts will gladly come with you for a bed and a shower (though I always insist on paying them fairly). Also nice girls, but far fewer than in LA. Still. You will find girls that are rearing to go. You can have a great time with the cheapest pitcher of Rum & Coke in Manila and just hanging out and playing pool. If you so desire, there are plenty of ladies to take your mind of things. Amazonia has rooms right above the bar if you're in the mood for ST. Same prices as in LA usually apply.

Long story short. I love the vibrancy and variety of Manila. I actually prefer it to the "Pattaya-vibe" you find in Angeles. I usually take 2 girls per day. One ST in the PM and one LT over night. If you're not a total Jerk and treat the girls decently, they will give their all in the hope that you will become a repeat customer.

For what it's worth, the girl I ended up choosing said she gets 118 php per night as a salary, 50 php for any girl drinks guys buy her, and then whatever final tip she negotiates with the guy. So I guess she got 2668 php the night I picked her up.

On Saturday night I went to P. Burgos street and based on the reports on this board ended up Kojaks, Plan be and Bottoms. I started a little later, at around 10 pm, and found the bars much more crowded with mostly western guys. When I went to go in to Plan be I was told there was a "private party" but there were these two Indian guys out front trying to get in at the same time. I remembered reading something about that in my initial research, so I just hung around outside and after the doorman shoo'd away the Indian guys, they just said to me "You want to go in?" and let me in. Overall I found the girls in Plan be to be slightly more pushy -- they would proactively come to my table and start talking to me and trying to get me to buy them drinks or at least choose a girl, whereas that didn't happen anywhere else. But it wasn't to the point of annoying. I was expecting more from Bottoms based on what I read, but it was smaller than Plan be and Kojaks and the girls didn't seem higher quality or anything, so just one drink and I left. Kojaks, on the other hand, impressed me. It's newer and you're able to see the girls on stage pretty well. The dancing is choreographed and the staff wasn't pushy at all. Moreover the quality of girls seemed a cut above. Girl drinks were 400 php. From what I had read, girl drinks should be subtracted from the barfine. In my case, I bought two girl drinks and they quoted me at 2900 php for the barfine + 800 for two girls drinks. So 3700 php. That seems fairly accurate with reports that barfine is 3900 php with girl drinks subtracted. ST was 3000 php. The girl I ended up choosing said she also gets a salary per night, and between 100-150 php per girl drink that any guy buys her. So I guess she got 3320 php the night I picked her up.

If I went back I'd probably just stick to Kojaks again for night fun, but other posters are completely right -- during the day there's just so much other freelance or other opportunities that it makes sense to invest more in that if you're there for more than a weekend.

I did try my luck there and yes the prices are 5-6 k ST. It is pure bait and switch, basically all of them. You get a girl pick up the phone that is mentioned in the ad, but it isn't the girl you will meet. As a matter of fact the pictures posted also don't have much in common with the girl you will meet.

When talking to her on the phone she is fantasizing about the 2 hour service you will receive, but the girl that will arrive at your room doesn't know. Or want to know anything about this. They will try to get you down to business as fast as they can and rush out of your room.

I've tried against my better judgment and regretted it. Luckily the damage isn't that big, since adding up bar fines and drinks and taxis and the girls tip kinda get you into the same region. After comming into phils quite heavily the last 4 years, and by heavily I mean between 15 to 20 trips a year, I have picked up a few hickups or cute cultural issues (becomes irritating after a while). Yeah I find it pretty smart. Had a few "near" collisions with cheated husbands / boyfriends who had to much testos rushing through their vaines.
