I was in Viet Vang for a couple of days in early Jan. I knew it as a backpacker destination but hadn't done much research beyond that. I didn't even check out this board beforehand so really didn't know what to expect. My plan was to chill for a few days, tube down the river, and just go with the flow. I was planning to hit Thailand afterward so wasn't necessarily seeking mongering.

My first night I took a stroll around the center of town and noted a number of massage shops, but all looked pretty standard. I grabbed some dinner and afterward decided to get a Lao massage at one of the busier shops. Inside, the rooms were set up to accommodate 3-4 people so I wasn't expecting extras, and they weren't any. The massage was descent though. Afterward, I strolled into the Rasta bar and discovered they had joints for sale so decided to buy a couple. After lighting up, I took a stroll down the road and saw a massage shop with much sluttier-looking girls. I stopped in to chat with them and quickly realized they were all ladyboys. Not for me. I went to another bar for a while and when things started to shut down I decided to head back to my hotel.

On my way, I saw one massage shop that looked open. It was farther down the road that runs parallel to the river. I think it was called Lattana Massage or something similar. I walked in and it was very quiet. The lady who met me wasn't a knockout but she had a nice body. I decided to go for another Lao massage. She led me to an area in the back with rooms separated by curtains. She told me to take my clothes off and showed me the towel. When I realized there weren't any massage clothes to put on, I had a good feeling. She gave me a pretty decent back massage and when I flipped one thing led to the other and she started a HJ. After a few minutes she stopped and asked if I wanted sex, which of course I agreed to. She got a condom and we boned right in the shop. A couple other massage girls had come back to the shop at that point and were sitting just on the other side of the thin curtain as we were going at it. My girl was trying not to make any noises which only encouraged me more! It was fun. I can't remember how much she charged me, but want to say it was 400 K KIP.

Go inside motel compound, you'll see a big pink sign with Lao text and a photo of lady (Massage sign), corridor on left side will lead you to rooms with girls. I was there during daytime, were 3 girls 25-30 yo, wanted 200,000 kip.

Wasn't what I was looking for today. But facility is good.

So, went there during daytime. Its a hotel called "Villa Muang Swa" adjacent to it is Muang Swa nightclub / Karaoke.

Now they have big legit looking Massage signs facing the street. Went to the hotel desk, they smilingly told me no real massage just boom boom.

Was only one girl there when I was there 14:00, she was attractive 25 yo. Wanted 250,000 kip. ST. But I wasn't in the mood. During the night I remember there were many girls.

The advantage of this place: probably closest and easiest access from old town, can do it with a bicycle. I'm guessing they also have best facility for ST since it's in the hotel (I didn't ask if it was extra, but I'm guessing not).

I can now confirm that the number 1 place for quality of facility and quality girls in 18-20 year old range is the Two bars in the student area. Though the bar is on the street level, due to it being on a hill, they have ST rooms inside down stairs. 200,000 kip. LT also available (was offered but didn't ask price). One bar has a "Happy Bar" in English sign, the other (next door) a big Pepsi sign. I went to Pepsi bar during daytime, is quiet. At night the bars are quite active.

For quality facility quiet and discreet and quality ladies in 24-30 year old range (day and night) the best are the small brothel (Massage sign 19.9081190, 102.1675890) and the Vietnamese brothel (Karaoke / Massage black sign 19.910717, 102.1691180) both on the fringes of the city but in opposite directions.

The worst place in my opinion is the chicken Farm. Dirty, unhygienic. I feel like I'm in a pigsty. I absolutely hate that place.

I didn't also like the quality of girls (18's) on the road reported earlier next to Chicken Farm. And the small bar with massage sign (outside town).

The Vietnamese brothel next to the stadium (19.8725480, 102.1325598) would be my third choice after student area and the city fringes brothels.

Place called Karaoke 79 has just put up the "notorious" Karaoke / Massage big sign and a photo of the entertainment space. I think it is and was operating as a restaurant during daytime on the front terrace. Its just next door from a very nice gym on the main road very close to city center. Definitely needs further investigation at night, it was open during day with very little activity and is not a discrete location; Big school one block away and many shops. So didn't go in.

I've provisionally booked into Lotus Villa (but can still cancel OK), since my ideal would be in the old quarter plus easy entry with guests.

With little activity here for LP, I've answered my own post by some research which I'm happy to share.

Since I'm mainly interested in the old town, I emailed 3 hotels, on the basis that I'd be booking a room for 2 but traveling alone:

Pakhongthong Villa -- "Yes, you can have 2 people stay any night and will have breakfast for 2 at no extra charge. Just to be discreet".

Peninsula Villas -- "Of course your friend can join, and if stay overnight we also provide breakfast for her with out any charge. But you should let our reception know before. "

Lotus Villa -- still no reply, so probably not GF.

I'll be there in January and will let you know how it goes!

Had my first experience in Luang Prabang. Utterly forgettable.

Had a tuktuk driver take myself and 2 buddies to a grotty house outside of time. I guess it was the aforementioned chicken farm. Went inside and 4 girls were interoduced to us by the Papasan. Opening asking price was 500 k, got that down to 200 k for 1 hour, which the papa collected upfront. Only 1 decent looker, my 2 buddies declined so it was up to me to do the honourable thing and sneak off to her bedroom. BJ? No. Kissing No. Different positions, No. Pulling my hosepipe like she was milking a cow. After 20 minutes of very boring missionary, she decided she'd had enough. This cause my excitement to totally dissipate.

I got dressed and went back in to the seating area to complain and ask for a refund. The papasan responded by going in to the kitchen to collect a machete. We decided it was time to leave, but we'd have 6 beers by then which we didn't pay for, so I guess my net loss was 120 k.

Still, overall a very crap experience. Going to try the Vietnamese place next. Hope it is a little better.

Thanks for the great info on chicken shacks etc which has helped me get my plan together for a visit to LP and then V in January, a newbie to Laos.

There's quite a bit of info here on the GF accommodation options in V - (seems like almost anywhere that isn't top end of the market should be OK and I'm thinking of Inter-city). But not so much info for LP- in fact, going back a bit I see one post saying: "Does anyone have any info on GF hotels in LP. The only recent one I found RTFFing was My Dream Boutique Resort" -- so I tried it and, wouldn't you know, it's not available for my dates!?

I've provisionally booked into Lotus Villa (but can still cancel OK), since my ideal would be in the old quarter plus easy entry with guests. But this latter requirement is absolutely key!! All going well, it looks like I'll be taking an occasional LT from one of the shacks, and I don't want any chance of being stopped in the hotel foyer!

Some expert advice would be much appreciated.

And BTW, I'm spoiling myself with a total of 10 days to be spent between Laos (4 or 5?) and probably Cambodia (5 or 6?) - a bit of sightseeing but mostly hobbying! I'll have been through Saigon & Hanoi, returning to Saigon for the flight home. How to split LP, V, PP, Snooky? (I've only ever been to PP out of that list).
