After thinking I saved the map on my phone for offline use and navigating to infamous 26, I realized that the "action" icons did not save. Crap! Not to worry, how hard could it be right? Inadvertently I ended up at all the Type 2 clubs that were referenced, no fun. Then I realized I was not on Merced. I made my way there and strategically started searching every strip mall. I just passed through Santiago and had only about 6 hours stopover. I have been to Santiago before with rather poor mongering experiences.

This time I decided to go direct to Cafe 26. Basically, I entered the mall and staircases were right in front at the entrance. Half floor down were the cafes on the left side. The first one is 27. I ignored (based on TomJackin's experience) the girl from this cafe who was inviting me in. The one attached to it was the deared cafe 26. Basically, these cafes all had one chica sitting conveniently on a chair right at the door entrance and monitoring the traffic. The door was opened as expected and a chica invited me in. I was bombarded with some Spanish words, and after I clarified that I don't know more than 3 words, they were a bit disappointed. But, I continued communicating with the bartender (the only male, friendly) and using body language and generic English words (like sex, dance) to get where I wanted.

3 girls were there. One tall with a nice ass but otherwise rather normal. One shorter, average built, and nothing special. The third one was a Peruvian angel going by the name of Vanessa; white skin, average boobs but great curves and a fabulous ass. I made my choice in probably less than a second. 1 - I used the word "ficha" for the girl's drink. Usually for the cost of the drink (ficha), the girl gets a percentage of that money. In some places, especially Santiago, it allows the girl to sit next to you and you can get to know her better before you decide have sex. Some buy fichas just for company, or in my case, to gather information about the club.

Thus, you are correct; it's the cost of drink for the girl to sit with you at a table. Some girls will drink slow, while others finish their drink in a few minutes. In Santiago, in the clubs / cafes, no drink; conversation ends quickly.

2 - In Bellas Artes, I did not think the girls in the strip clubs significantly better than the level 3 cafes? I did not care to have sex in a bathroom in number 26, but it was interesting to say the least. And that chica was just as pretty as any club girl in Bellas Artes. But as written before, go in and check out the talent, and if you don't like the talent, just leave.

First off, I decided to mix the trip with mongering and meeting up with civvies. Well, a lot of that did not work out. I wasn't feeling my best the entire trip as well.

Logistics:

Flight:

I flew AA round trip from San Diego for $1500 and some change. 3 hours to Dallas and another 9 hours to Santiago.

Logging:

I rented a 2-bedroom apartment in a good location, in Bellas Artes. I rented through Airbnb. I paid 80 bucks a night. The place was rather small, but it suited my basic needs.

Money:

The currency in Chile is pesos. The rate was about 1 US dollar to 673 pesos. I just figured that 1000 pesos was $1. 50,10,000 was $15.00 and so forth. I cashed in $100 US at the airport and got a shitty rate of 641 to 1. No passport needed.

But in the city, on Agustinas, between Bandera & Morande, there were several camibo places with different rates. I found a couple that had 670 to 1 rate; so I cashed in there. No passport needed.

I brought almost new $50 notes, but two were marked by a pen. Those notes were declined, but the place next door took the bills.

Duty Free:

There was a Duty Free at the airport, but I did not have to use the service.

Communication:

I have the T-Mobile North American plan. My plan gave me unlimited data at 2 G speed, calls at 20 cents per minute and free texts. Thus, I started using WhatsApp on my regular phone. I started chatting with my Airbnb host before I left. As long as I had a WiFi signal, WhatsApp was free of charge. I was chatting on WhatsApp, Facebook, and Skype; including video calls for no charge whatsoever.

Transportation:

From the airport, I used a regular taxi; 20 K pesos. Because I was leaving Christmas night, I tried to arrange advance transportation, but no one seem to have drivers available. This made me a tad nervous, but I remember reading a TR that stated Uber was in Santiago. Yes, the power of TRs!

So I brought up Uber on my phone, and low and behold, there were some drivers in my area. The driver I had was nervous about being discovered at the airport. When he let me off, we hugged each other like we were best friends. The cost was about half of a regular taxi. And hell, I got a free hug to boot!

Spanish school:

I attended Escuela Newen for two classes a day, Monday through Friday, for one week. I paid for 10 classes, which came out to be just over 17 US per class. Escuela Newen also took my Visa card for the payment.

Food:

The food was good, but could not hold a candle to Lima. I ate and drank at a butt-load of restaurants:

El Diabilto good.
Mambolda tapas sucked, did I mentioned it sucked?
San Remo good.
Fusion Holandesa good late night food.
El Rapido great fast food the Barros Luco!
Bar National really good Chilean dishes.
Juan why Medio. Really good Chilean dishes.

The Women:

Because the trip was to focus on Spanish, I contacted a few women on Latin American Cupid. The ones I contacted had no English speaking skills. This does take time and a lot of effort. All the Latin American Cupid girls were flakes and we never hooked up. I also had some hits on Tinder, but the 3 girls I chatted with wanted at least 150 US for an hour; fuck that.

Once you buy the second drink, sex is offered and prices varied in the cafes. But, 40 K seemed to be the going price at most of the places. I was very surprised how good looking the women were in these places.

Here is one of my experience at #26 no name caf. I was walking around this 5/6 floor shopping center (there were 5 in that mall), more like a strip mall, and when I was walking by one of the places with windows blacked out, the door opened slightly and a hand reached out and beckoned me to enter; I just had to go inside.

All the clubs in Bellas Artes seemed to have the same menu, as if they were part of some damn union, but the prices varied between the women. Each club required you buy an expensive drink, kind of like an exit fee to the room / VIP area. And none of them had a cover charge.

Conclusion:

I found Santiago boring, dirty, and expensive. There were a lot of places to monger; but with over the top pricing. It's a huge tourist city with way too many gringos as far as I'm concerned. If you want to travel that far south, I would recommend Buenos Aires instead. Having said that, I have no regrets. I enjoyed romping through the city, and had some good food to boot.

Would I recommend the city to other mongers; NO!
