Went to Bali last month. The place was quite slow and dry. I personally did not find Bali a attractive place in comparison with Thailand.

It is tough to find good meat there and where it is available it is very expensive. First night went to star Bugar hopeless place had fishbowl setup and very tough to see the girls managed one and had to pay whooping 1 million rupiahs for hopeless service.

Next day went to river view nice setup expensive but nice service. 1.2 million rupiah but worth looking at the facilities. The chick was nice and claimed to be a DJ. Had tattoos to which were good.

Overall Bali is very slow.

Really not worth the hassle or risk. Over the years have tried several times by showing my money and ask them to count out theirs, put in on the counter, take a step back and put their hands in their pockets. No takers at most places so no exchange. Only a couple restaurants were willing to do it.

Yes, anyone offering above market rate exchange are ripoffs. They are all over Kuta with their "Authorised Exchange" signs. Some rates I saw offered were 5% above market rates. Avoid all exchange places offering these types of rates as they are all short change artists. All have a sidekick who will stand next to you and talk and distract you while the dealer removes a few 100 k Rupiah notes before you accept it and take off. You cannot win at these places. Either they win, or they don't transact. Those are the only two possible outcomes. Do your research on the internet on where to find a trusted exchange place in Kuta. Its amazing that the stupid tourist board doesn't do something to fix this problem, and protect tourists. Indonesia is one phucked up country. And don't even get me started on the taxi drivers.

If your getting a higher exchange rate you are going to the street vendors that always advertise a higher rate but rip you off. They are similar to the guy on the street in most major cities that uses cards or walnuts and bets you can't find the pea.
