Red Kilt, is there a decent hotel I should be trying to stay in? My host is proposing to put me up in a "guest house" which may or may not be very private!

By the way, I have just joined Pinalove, and find the pickings very slim for Cagayan. Not even sure if it means the province I am in or Cagayan de Oro, which is a totally different and distant place.

But also, when I search for Cagayan, I get a handful of profiles (like under a dozen) but then a bunch more appear on the carousel at the top of the page. Not always Cagayan, but certainly dozens from there that do not show up in my search. What gives?

There are a lot more hotels in Tuguegarao now but none of them are large scale with lots of guests milling around the lobby.

I always stayed in what is called a "guest house" or sometimes it's called a "pension" . In most other places this would be a euphemism for "very cheap or hostel-like", but in provincia towns like Tuguegarao it doesn't mean anything. My pension was comfortable and clean but, as I said in my earlier post, everybody could see anyone arriving and departing so they are raely private in the way that you want them.

Re Pinalove. It is notorious for girls putting their place of origin as the closest big city. Cagayan covers a very large area so if ever you chat with a girl the first question should be "where do you live?" The girls on the top banner are those who are not online or who have not been online for a while (usually).

In the Philippines we measure distances by time and not kilometers. Tuguegarao is anywhere between 12 - 16 hours from Manila depending on whether you travel by bus or car in the middle of the night or during the day (longer). There are lots of roadworks too which can hold you up for 20 to 30 minutes at a stoppage. It's a no-brainer that you should fly there.

I wouldn't take anyone with me to Tuguegarao as there is nothing for her to do if you have to work. I would suggest you go alone, assume there will be no mongering and just act normally; smile and chat to everyone and you just never know what will happen. That has been my MO in the province and it has often worked out unexpectedly.

As has been said before, girls will be very wary about being seen with you if you are new in town unless they are somewhat "hard-core" with an already established reputation as pick-up girls (the local term).

DIA might work if you can entice a girl to your hotel, but she might baulk at being seen entering your room, as anyone from the security guard, reception, house maids might know her or be related to her.

Spot on. As RK stated, for most of us we have this idea in our heads that we can get a girl to come to our condo / hotel room. In the big city, there is both anonymity and hardcore. In the province there is none of that. There is a deeper shyness, and there is a huge fear in the girl's mind that someone will see them entering a hotel (even worse. With a foreigner) and the gossip will get back to the family, which will cause real shame. I've literally had boots on the ground and had girls tell me either in txt or to my face that its not possible that they come to my place until I've met the fam, or that they can come to my place in another town (just not their province). I've gotten quite good at that last item.

Related and almost identical story as RK's, but in the city. I was staying some years ago at Diplomat hotel on Ramos in Cebu. One night I walked down to Mango to meet a new DIA girl and have a drink. She wanted instead to go to the old Sunflower disco and meet friends for the drink, so we taxi'd there. While there she danced with her girlfriends (I don't dance standing up). I got a txt from another board member that he was in Mango square with his regular, asking me to come there. I told my date we were leaving for MS, but she wanted to stay and dance. We agreed to keep in touch with txt and meet up later that evening. Once at Mango with my buddy and his girl, my girl stopped txting. Date over it seemed. Not to get cock-blocked, I walked over to Juliana's disco and got a girl from the outside for the night. The next morning I waltzed her out to the street and she jeeped home. Back inside I decided to change my cash into pesos at the front desk. The young lady there changing my money (I'd never seen her face before) said: "So. Sir. You visit Sunflower last night? I didn't go before. My friends say they have many live band. Its good?" How did she have any idea where a guest went to last night? She wasn't on duty last night when I dropped the room key at the front desk as I departed the hotel. MS is half a mile from the hotel, and Sunflower was 2 miles from the hotel. WTF, the bamboo pipeline was alive and working its magic.

I have spent a lot of time in Tuguegarao and other parts of Cagayan (and Isabela) for the same reason as you.

You have obviously done your homework and most of your conclusions are correct.

It is a very small provincial town with calesas (horse drawn small carts for transport) and so the place smells of hrse manure.

There are a couple of very large Universities so there are many students around BUT as a foreigner, a gentleman and a professional you are very prominent and conspicuous and so you will find it very difficult to fly incognito.

If, like me, you need to protect your reputation then it will be virtually impossible. For me, it is essential that I fly under the radar and keep my name beyong reproach and stay outside of any tsismis (gossip).

First, thanks everyone for your helpful comments.

I probably do need to be somewhat discreet for my own reputation, so I can't be seen cavorting with obvious working girls, but I can probably get away with romancing a young lady if she is "normal" and not too young.

I am more concerned with the young lady's reputation, which I understand can be at risk in a small town. So I am happy to entertain her primarily in my hotel, if necessary. But if she is from out of town, maybe she does not have to be as careful?

I am also considering the option described by Brain Drain and picking up a girl in Manila on my way there to keep me company. But it is a long way from Manila to Tugeuegarao (like 500 km) so what would I do, send her on the bus or train (of course I will be flying)? Is there a major city closer than Manila / Quezon that I could draw from?

College girls looking for money to pay for school is urban legend. I understand that a female college student in the PI can expelled for inappropriate behavior of any kind. This is not to say that you won't find a rebellious college girl who will spend time with you.

I get so tired of hearing this story. Years ago some fool on another board stated he picks them up left and right and posted some pictures of his current college girlfriend. Another member shared his pic of the same girl with links to several websites proving she was in reality a Japanese porn star that he had never even met.

I lived in downtown Cebu for 8 months which has like 9 colleges. I walked past 3 practically every day. Very few college girls even took a glance in my direction. To get college girls you have to spent lots of time and energy or lie and tell them you are looking for a wife (and still wait). You can get lucky using a friend of a friend which got me 2 college girls that were very GFE.

No matter what you will have fun just meeting Filipinas during the course of your stay whether it is at the store, restaurant, or walking down the street. They are super friendly. Just smile and say "Hi!" to all the pretty girls you see. Just the smiles you get in return are sweet. It sounds stupid but do it for just one day and you will understand. They are not going to jump into bed with you. But it is that easy to make a friend.

If you have any vacation days to use. Use them now at the end of your trip in either Manila or Angeles City!

Example: In 1999 I found a disco bar in the ground floor of a local hotel and spent an evening there chatting with girls and buying drinks.

Luckily I went home alone because next morning the woman at the front desk asked me if I enjoyed myself last night at (name of bar. I forget it).

Nothing came of it but it made me nervous about my "reputation" (my profession is one where I need to be discreet), because it was clear that everyone knew everyone else's business.

You are a lucky dog venturing into uncharted territory. Here are my thoughts on the matter. 150,000 is a big enough crowd to keep a bordello in the black. Pay for play in the Philippines is like shit on a horse ranch; it's everywhere. Be selective and befriend a trike driver and get the lowdown from him. As for Pinoy bars go early, find your girl, and leave quickly. Don't get drunk and if there is problem, apologize and buy the troubled party a drink then leave.

I used DIA. It was time consuming but fun. You should probably begin using DIA starting about 2 weeks before you arrive. Here are some pitfalls. Some girls will claim to live in the city but really live several hours out of town. This complicates the rendezvous and can make things unworkable. Girls will meet you with a friend or family and you get stuck paying for them and paying and paying. Read the thread "Chat rooms and Pen pals" for advice on how best to manage this problem.

Use the "nearby" feature on WeChat to find possibilities and remember that you will probably have the same problem with your prospect bringing unwanted company and wheedling a free meal from you for no quid pro quo.

Sounds like you will be having an interesting time. A couple of thoughts for you as I have not visited Tuguegarao City.

Smaller town girls will not want to be seen around town with a foreigner. The connotations are not the rumors that will want to have about themselves. Te otherwise willing university girls will be very shy in public.

For me, I would be on pinalove, dateinasia for 1-2 weeks only before your visit. Expect that the girls will come direct to your hotel and meet in your room, even just for conversations at first.

If you are working, and depending upon your job, you do have to consider that the whole town will know of your extra-curricular activities. Does that fit with your job?

What are your plans on travelling to Tuguegarao City? Will you have time to spend in AC or Manila. You could pre-qualify a few girls. Take one with you on your initial journey to Tuguegarao City where she can help you in transit and be your squeeze for the week. On the weekend, take her to the beach. After the weekend if you have decided that the local scene will work for you then you can decide whether to order in your next AC freelancer. The more I think about this, I think arriving with a girl would be good as it gives you sexual certainty for the first few days. You can always send her home early or keep her longer depending on your take of the local scene.

My understanding is this is a provincial town of 150,000 which does not sound very promising. On the other hand it has a university of 38,000 which does sound promising. My experience is that wherever college girls are in abundance, there are always some looking to earn extra money. And with the college / town population ratio, a lot of those students must be out-of-towners, so they have the freedom to be bad girls if they want.

I figure daily mongering there would be a problem, probably not many places to hunt and too small a place for anonymity. So my assumption is that finding a college girl to "date" or "sponsor" is my best bet for spending two weeks there pleasantly. So I am not looking for a straight P4 P pro, but a college girl looking for a little extra cash (and excitement).

Does this seem reasonable like a reasonable strategy? And should I try to find a girl in advance on the internet, or just trust in my pulling power as a white western businessman (but over 50) to meet girls once I am there?

I was thinking of approaching girls as interpreters or social guides, then lead the conversation into the more personal service requirements.

If I am scouting prospects in advance (which I assume would be best) are there any special web-sites? PinayLove? FilippinaCupid? And would WeChat be useful for this?

Also, where would be a good place to go on the weekends in northern Luzon? Any great beach resorts? Looking both to get out of my small town and identify an attractive mini-vacation that would appeal to a girl.

In Sabang that area called Big La Laguna has enough beach for anybody. Sabang was my fave for a long time. You'll love it. A place called Moalboal is on my bucket list. It's a diving resort maybe 2 hours west of Cebu. Never did it. It's going to be smaller. Less selection but I could never figure out how to bone more than one girl at a time.

Moalboal is very small and has little nightlife. It is best to take your own which I did. There are a couple of places where you can get a drink and I have read that a couple of freelancers were seen there but it will be slim pickings.

Boracay is not exactly famous for its mongering scene. More so for low attitude and service for rather high prices.

I have been in Boracay for the 4th time now. My focus had always been to enjoy a very lively place, good and diverse food and lots of party athmosphere in the clubs and bars. You can have all of that within walking distance, or a very short trycicle ride. Nice place to end a trip throughout the Phils!

Boracay has changed from a place frequented by wetserners, well-off Pinoy and others, to a 90% Asian place. My estimate is 60% Koreans, Chinese, Pinoy each 10%, Westerners and Arabs (each 5%.

The previous times, I had brought a FL GF from wherever I had been and whichever seemed worthy (smart and funny vs sleepy and moody) and gifted enough (natural lust and accessibility vs cool professionalism and reluctance) to keep me more happy for a week, rather than annoy me.

This time I flew in to Boracay exclusively for reasons I won't reveal. So my plan had been, to fly in one or two of the girls from Manila and Sabang, PG that I know. That didn't work out in both cases. So, for the first time I was stuck with local supply.

Now there are three major sources of supply for WG or FL in Boracay:

A) Walking the beach, street or shopping venues.

B) Cocomangas.

C) Galaxy.

D) Tulumbat.

Please spare me the "but I picked up a supermodel at The Exit Bar and she gave me GFE LT for PhP 500! Of course you did and yes; that does happen. I have had free sex with Phil hotel guests and with a gorgeous employee (in Boracay! But here we are talking major venues. Those were and remain the above 4.

A) I didn't try. Neither time nor hunting mood, to sort the wheat from the chaff.

B) Cocomangas I went once. There are two problems with this place. One is, that is run down to a level, where even a jaded traveler, such as me can barely cope leave alone feel comfy. They proudly advertise '30 years! It should read '30 years without investing another dime!' . It is smelly, sticky and feels ramshackle! Sure enough you will find FL hanging out at the bar! The time their numbers peak is 10 pm to 11:30 pm. Cocomangas doesn't provide free WiFi, of course. Still, these gals seem to hang out there for the sole purpose of typing on their mobiles. The suckers abroad must be texted, how they feel a bit bored at their province and how they miss them and what that next extra batch of money is so direly needed, apart from the monthly WU allowance, that is. I am sure, they are accessible if you try hard enough. But that attitude drives me off. I am there for the fun. Fun to meet, chat, dance, drink and finally sex. A bad start is an indicator of things to come, more often than not. So I had a few drinks with friends and new buddies, threw a few smiles and let it go. From what I was told, min. Wage for ST is 3 k.

C) Galaxy is a new disco near Bolabog beach. It is Korean owned. It is a very large disco with the interior, tech and service standard you would find in a top place in the EU, US or wherever, but not in the Phils much. So are the prices: 250 for a rum / coke, shooter, 150 for an smb / sml. It is worth it, if it's worth it for you. I enjoyed! No cover charge and dress code (no fliflops) not enforced. It has a smokers balcony and is very well air con'ed. The best range of FL will be found in Galaxy. The problem is the Koreans. They ruin the market wherever they appear. Koreans will be in the Phils for a few days or one week max. That will be their annual holiday. So they are happy to spend. In Puerto Galera the FL word is "3 inch, 3 minutes, 3 thousand". In Boracay it's more like ". 4 thousand". It takes lots of negotiating to get even a ST for less. Not under 3 k.

Now, my nature and approach is, to be tough on the wage and generous with the extras. I really like to have a good time first. Drinks, food, smokes no issue. I am not an Angeles type, who will pick and fuck a girl, without even bothering to ask her name. I like to party! I found this to be very rewarding, as it breaks the ice and makes for a happier basis for the sex part. This is relevant, as I won't accept overpricing. I won't pay a chick more, than the professional waiter in my hotel makes in a week. Period. Which brings us to.

D) Tumbulat is a place near the only gas station you will find on the main street. There are 7 small, shady bars or rather joints lined up that have neither name nor sign. Sure enough, there are local Pinoy inside, intoxicated beyond reason and the karaoke machine. The bar girls couldn't care less. You'll find them lined up on the porch and / or inside. Half are not attractive, but the other half is sweet. Take your pick, check whether the gal is ready and willing to accompany you and beat down mam sang to 2 k for ST. LT is rather expensive with asking price of 4-5 k, as the gals are supposed to perform a quick stint with you only and return to the bar for 1 or 2 more rounds. I would go to Tumbulat, pick and take a girl and head to Galaxy with her. One in particular was very sexy, but shy. After a first beer, she resisted as much to dancing, as I insisted. She was very insecure and shy, dancing at this (in her view) grand venue. Following our first attempt of a dance, I persuaded her to 2 vodka shooters and later we danced again. She was like a snake: all over under and around me, probing my lips, crotch and patience! We left and had a wonderful session at my room!

Problem with Tumbulat gals remains the insistence to finish quickly. They don't only get up, dress and leave right after sex. Some are actually very outspoken about it, as soon as you're getting started. This is no so much frustrating because I would like another round, but because it kills all the heat I have built up and leaves me with that exact cool professionalism, I so much despise. For reasons I won't reveal, I wasn't able to book LT.

My feelings for mongering Boracay remain very dim.

White Beach.

As I said pretty boring during the day in Sabang so took off to White Beach for 5 days, 3 would be enough, even day trip would suffice. Much better sandy beach. Best days Mon- Thurs. Worse days Fri- Sun due to influx of locals. Jet skis, parasailing, banana boat, snorkelling.

Food here is major problem – trust me eat at one of 3 places – Verandah Restaurant- western food – Swiss Chef – Size of meals, Service, atmosphere, food all good. OR – Casa Mia – Italian Restaurant –Italian owner, friendly service, good food and atmosphere but be prepared to wait for food especially on weekends. OR- Beach Frog Café – bar meals, decent without great. Anywhere else you have been warned. At night used to be fire twirlers and ladyboy shows but ladyboy shows have gone so Filipinos singing karaoke is your entertainment so that lasts 10 minutes.

No bars to BF girls, no freelancers I saw, nights consisted of dinner and either drinking in bar or TV in room.

Maybe BYO from Sabang is only way to go but I thought I might pick something up here but in 5 days no go.

Suggest you stay at far end near restaurants – I stayed Summer Connection in Nippa Hut – accommodation ok but breakfast here a joke.

Sabang Synopsis.

Well I must say overall I was disappointed.

I come here to dive and play. The diving is good but as my reports reflect the girls look hot enough but the performance on the whole is poor. I had one girl who was giving me a list of what she doesn't do – she even said if she wasn't happy she would walk out and not be too concerned about the $$$ - bizarre I thought but she was quite adamant.

What would I do different next time – maximum length of stay 11 days. Happy with food, accommodation and diving. As for how to solve the performance problem – don't know. My recent observations is around SEA and my home the mongering scene is changing (or am I changing?) There are no more guarantees of service – bait and switch (or bait and starfish) is on the increase. Is it amplified in Sabang due to certain groups – I think so. It took me nearly 3 weeks to find a diamond and that's too much time, effort and money stuffing around for me.

So come to Sabang for maybe 1 week to 10/11 days, plan somewhere else too. EDSA, in Manila is a goldmine – well looks wise, only BF once so not large enough sample to gauge overall performance. Stay away from Korean Bars. If you want the cream play the same game as the Asians – get there real early, watch them walk to the bars. I call it the parade.

Your 4 reports are comprehensive and give information not only about mongering but also as a travel guide. Thank you. Based on your reports it is not a place I would choose to monger. My impression was, that the women in "other places" offer a better GFE experience, but it seems to be the opposite. Starfishes for 3500 pesos is a huge disappointment.
