Just back from a fantastic 5 day trip to LOS. Hope this helps someone!

Day 1.

Landed at Bangkok after a bumpy red-eye flight from Mumbai. Immigration lines weren't long, and I was fortunate to get the faster immigration officer. A few friends, in another queue, got the patient officer, who was rationing the passengers at snails pace. They only came through after I had collected the bags, and made my way back near immigration counters! 3 people in 20 minutes! Must be some record!

Ride to Pattaya (pre-booked cab) was also late. And, all 5 dudes were tired and hungry after waiting another 30 minutes. Would this be one of those forgettable trips? (Spoiler alert: it wasn't).

We were put up at the Camelot, being close to Walking Street was a good idea. Got the hotel cheap at around 2200 baht a night. However, the rooms are damp, musty and stinky. It's an older property, and needs an overhaul to keep with the times. It is frequently by the group tours, where an overnight stay does no harm to it's reputation. Would not recommend. Surprisingly, saw many Russian (or maybe, Uzbek) gals staying there. Course, Indian dudes would never get a second look from them, sigh!

Our first destination for the evening was the soapy massage places; one member of the group was a Thailand virgin, and we wanted him to have a guaranteed start! We dropped in at Honey 2 to start with. On my previous trip, this had been the best of the lot. Choices start at 2500, all the way upto 4000 baht. How many you guys try room service? My hotel has the best food / prices I've seen anywhere at 115 baht for Thai dish with rice. Quality and quantity of the food is really good. A great surprise.

In the past I thought I was being very smart making no reservation and looking for places in person, mind you that was riding a bike, not by feet / mototaxi extortion. How wrong I was, after ending being miserable too many times now I only use Expedia for my bookings and I do reserve in advance. For one, you can't beat the rates. And the guest reviews are totally genuine, for example both the serviced apartments where I'm staying now, as well Nova Express on 3rd Rd / Klang have ratings well above 4 which are absolutely deserved. If an hotel charges for guests or any other BS be sure you will read that in the reviews. I have Gold level, customer service has been always been helpful in the past, and reward points accumulate quickly when paying with an Expedia card and booking from the app, on average I get a free night every 10 - 15.

As for food courts in malls, when Pier 21 opens up in Terminal 21 you can get noodle or rice dishes for 25-40 baht. Hopefully Pattaya will keep the same prices and have the same vendors as Bangkok. As for Central Festival food park. Don't eat there it's a rip off.

IMHO there are only a few stalls in the food courts in Terminal 21 in BKK and Central Festival in Pattaya that have good food. You get what you pay for I guess.
And the one in Central Festival is indeed a rip off and too expensive for what you get.

Mike's shopping mall has a slightly cheaper food court but the quality there is also below par.
And there's a rather expensive food court at the top floor of Royal Garden, but I never tried that one.

For some reason the taste in food courts is often bland, but at least there is variety, cleanliness and convenience, eg in Big C. Klang. You see that not many Thais eats there.

Another thing I do and the ladies love is the "bagarin" restaurants at early hours , there is a row of them opposite Hollywood disco. You can have menu dishes or pot BBQ at the table. Today we had crispy morning glory and two large seafood spicy salads, the one in sauce was superb we both agreed. With rice, water, a large Singha bill came to Baht 430. Prices haven't changed in years, laid back place, zero tourists, what can you ask for more?

This was with a Red Car lady that I didn't see before, Dao, pretty face on a solid (not fat) body. She have man made hard boobs which do nothing for me. But she's nice to be with, friendly without being stupid, zero bullshit (well, she left way earlier than noon as promised, but i don't care anyway). Sex drive and endurance are Thai average (lowish) but can suck pretty good. Damage 2 K LT.

A couple of the noodle places in the back part of Avenue Mall near Soi 15 are good for 40-60 baht. Second best breakfast place I know is Retox Soi Lengkee. They have what's called the baht buster for 99 baht. If it doesn't fill you up you're eating too much. It's served until 4 pm. Highly recommended.

I agree about the Kebab vendor (the one located in front of Familymart Soi Diana) good value and fresh vegs. And chicken.

At the Thai place on Soi Buakhao my meal is from 50 to 80 baht depending on what I get. Great fish and chips at the cart on LK Metro for 130 baht. I think I paid 60 baht for half rack of small ribs at the market yesterday. Chicken is all over town for 10 baht each. Kebabs are 80-100 baht depending on the meat. The breakfast I eat on 3rd Rd and Pattaya Klang just went up to 90 baht. Robin's Nest breakfast is about 140 baht. Last night I ate chicken and rice and soup at the corner of Pattaya Tai and Soi Buakhao for 45 baht. Before I came to Phuket today I bought a Subway sandwich for 90 baht. Seaside restaurant off Soi 7 has porkchop dinner for 145 baht. Sailor Bar on Soi 8 has cheap ass food. Then there are the food counters at Foodland and Villa Market.

No I never sit on the beach, nor swim in the sea there. I can do without the UV. I actually have some study of a private nature to do, so if not doing that I am searching for food, or hookers, watching my own videos on my tablet, and also some cable TV. It is probably much too boring for the typical punter, but I am living more like a long-term resident. I don't drink, so don't frequent the bars. I like to remain a lean mean fucking machine. Just for the ladies.

Yes, it is a secret. I don't like to popularise my favorite hotels. A few years ago I arrived in Pattaya three days before Christmas and this guesthouse that I normally stay in was full. They found me another place close by so I paid for three days up till Christmas Day. Then I went down on Christmas morning to extend my stay but they said sorry your room has been booked by someone else and you have to leave. Well, I spent hours trying to find another room, carrying all my gear on my back in the hot sun. All hotels said the same thing: sorry full. I was just about to give up in despair when I decided to try the Siam Sawasdee as it was big, and yes they had an available room. But I had to buy the silly New Years dinner which was compulsory. Decided to stump up the cash in case I ended up homeless again. So that is why I don't like to promote my favorite hotel: in case you get the last room.

But I think that the accomodation situation in the high season has lightened up somewhat over the last few years. Supply may be exceeding demand these days. I think it has to do with the collapse of the rouble and the diminishing number of Russian tourists mainly?

You're eating at tourist places. For example, driving East on Pattaya Klang, right hand side shortly after Big C. there is a large restaurant. Dishes are excellent, large servings and the widest possible selection, average 50 -80 Baht unless "special". Menu is in English. So you can have 3 serving for Baht 150 or little more. And if you want to get stuffed for cheap, hit the buffet restaurants, of which there are so many, just a bit outside tourist areas.

I admit I eat at tourist places quite a lot, because they are the closest to where I'm usually staying, although I'm also familiar with some of the cheaper options that Mr. E. mentions.

The restaurant that you (OldNewGuy) mention sounds interesting. I will go there for lunch next time I'm in town. Going there for dinner is a pain in the ass I think, with the traffic jams in the late afternoon / early evening.
