Thanks for the recommendation I think that Naked guns stayed there too. I'm changing hotels today frustrated with the lack of CNN. It's not the fact that they don't have CNN it's that they keep promising it without providing it. With my phone issue I'm thinking that Kenyan culture my be like Arab culture were they over promise for face saving measures. Glad I book by the day. On my last visit to Nairobi, I did as I promised in forum, I visited Down Town hotel to collect information about them.

That was in December. But better late than never.

This can be thought as substitute to Terminal Hotel. So here is finally email of the place, so it can be reached from other countries without expensive phone calls.

Sad that Simmers is gone, that makes downtown hotel less useful. Rest in peace, Simmers.

I saw some discussion about retirement, I did not find actual questions asked. But it was something about comparing Nairobi and Mombasa?

My personal opinion is Mombasa, also as a tourist. I would be happy to work and live in Nairobi. But retirement and as a tourist, I don't know what to do in Nairobi in free time except drink in the bars and clubs. In Mombasa you can do all kind of beach and sea related activites. If nothing else, just sit idly in Big Tree coffee and watch the sea (and girls). And it is cheaper and more relaxed in Mombasa region, also with girls.

I would say Kampala in Uganda is also very good but there is no ocean. Dar es Salaam has ocean, also good place. Those four are main mongering cities in East Africa where English is widely spoken. In Rwanda language starts to be problem already.

So, my personal favourite is Mombasa, maybe I will retire there myself some day. Mombasa has it's negative sides like too hot, but no place is perfect.

Why not both? I can't comment on Mombasa but Nairobi has a whole western infrastructure. Just left the Westgate mall. I'm checking out the 7 D theatre tomorrow. I'm not even sure what that is but I'the like to find out. There's a lot to do here that doesn't involve mongering. I'm going to check out Kampala next trip too though.

Don't worry about the rainy season, you could easily see no rain, usually it is showers anyways. I am off to nbi and msa next month, airbnb is def the way to go these days.

I'm not worried about the rain per se. There will still be action to be had, but it does modify how I find my action.

Example: I was in Lagos, Nigeria sometime back for work. During the dry season, there were a lot of girls that would "hang outside" some of the more popular clubs and outdoor beer gardens. Essentially you'd pick up a lady from outside, have some drinks inside and then head back to your place. However, during the rainy season you'd have to operate strictly out of clubs as the rainy season was heavy and sometimes you'd get flooding on some streets.

There was still action (and plenty) but just in a different manner.

Either way, I think I'll be fine. You guys here have given me a boatload of info. I'll be sure to give a full field review when I hrt down.

Getting really excited for my trip. Been reading the forum pretty extensively (although the information gets dated easily as there isn't a large volume of information when compared to other places e. G. Thailand, DR, Brazil etc). It's a shame that I'll be coming during rainy season, either way, I plan on having a blast. If these Kenyan ladies have the big bubbly booties I've heard so much about then this will be a really, really, fun trip.

I'm also glad I'm getting a good Air Bnb instead of using a hotel. I prefer the privacy.

I'll have to see which is better. Nairobi or Jo'Burg.

LOL! As a former Iraq and Afghanistan contractor, I highly doubt that prices were driven up by horny guys flying in from the wars. Pattaya, and not Thailand, has been "ruined" by things like thousands of old retirees coming in for young pussy, and Asian ballers making it rain in Go-Go bars. Stick out? Hey, your Black American like me. Your supposed to be in jail. You have to know by now you will stick out anywhere on the planet friend. Obviously will be more obvious as a foreigner in an Asian country. Your clothing, walk and talk will make you an obvious foreigner in Africa too. I said blend in, not be mistaken for a local.

Phils has a one time fee for retiree visa, and up to 10 k bucks of your shit duty free, all the Pinay poon you can handle. It was my pick to retire, but I got sprung in Kenya. I don't think the mongering will slow down any time soon anywhere you go except within USA borders pal. Use latex.

Damn I used to envy you Contractor's especially the retired ones. The 10 k duty free sounds great because I'the want to ship stuff that I couldn't source locally. You're right about mannerisms, I remember I was walking in the hood in Marseilles France and I was made as an American by an old Black French woman.

I would've thought that it being a tourist town would raise prices. Again in Jamaica you'the pay way more on the north coast than you would in Kingston or an interior town. Guess it's different in Africa.

Rent is cheaper in Mombasa by some way like for like. Food etc is same, women are cheaper in Mombasa.

Answer for no 2. Mombasa is a lot cheaper than Nairobi, all of women on the lookout for people like you. Less hassle than Nairobi as well.

It's hard to pin down the Kenyan mindset. For instance many Kenyans can't afford liquor, and proudly fill the table with empty Tusker bottles as a sign of wealth, but consider me cheap and broke when I buy and drink gin. Just complete ignorance. White or Black you will be thought of as the guy that can afford pussy inflation. Price depends on a lot of factors, and will it take a lot of getting used to the place as a retirement option, you might want to consider the Phils or Thailand, and just use Africa as a brief playground. You won't be thought of as much a hoe monger as a white guy because you blend in a bit more, but that is all.
