Friday night was the first night this week when I saw at least 4/5 girls on Sukhumvit Rd and Nana area that were easy on the eyes. The grace hotel scene seems to be dead but Nana area has higher concentration of freelancers. Saw some stani girls also and lots of black women, some very aggressive.

Every WG seems to be from Isan. In soapies, on street. I understand that economic opportunities and culture decide who ends up in market or not, but come on. These used to some variety in the past, one would often find girls from chiang rai in Nataree or girls from Bangkok on MPs but this time all I got is isan isan and isan.

Take the mix of RLD new visitors every day in nana (a few thousands generic tourists land everyday in bkk so a 10% of them visiting (not necessarily partaking the action at full speed) and then check how many are the regular, repeat, experienced ones.

Maybe 5-10% of them (being generous).

That 5-10% will not be trapped.

The remaining 90/95% is the target for those girls.

They might not trap you tomorrow or the day after if you become a regular but they have good chances to score with their behaviour.

It is just a matter of numbers.

Sadly more than a few places now, seems to be becoming pretty routine. I even got hit with it at Afterskool on a trip a while back. I drink there a bit but it's the first time they had done this.

And the most annoying part is, that the mixer is usually free (in this case the coke). I spent my week in Bangkok and Pattaya drinking Jameson & soda, I never paid for the soda, except when ordered as a bottle. On the check it was always written soda mixer free.

The biggest bar bill or outside the hotel room scam I am aware of going on in a few places is the "Tequila and coke" non-existent cocktail drink request from girls that is in fact a two LDs order all at once.

You really seem to need an experienced wingman to look after you. No I am not volunteering, but perhaps you can find a buddy or too. DC10 is a known and fairly obvious LB bar and should not be going in there alone, really. The whole 2nd floor is quite notorious as filled with several LB bars.

Mercury bar was changed to a LB bar, but I don't believe it was as long as a year ago I was last in there (before change to LB bar). Still it is possible I lost track of time a little. Before that they tried Coyote girls to attract some customers. The gogo girls were mostly well overweight which tended to attract mainly Indian customers, although just a very few gogo girls were slim enough to pass muster. I was a regular customer of one girl with a fab ass, ex Dollhouse, ex Hotlips, ex Candyland 2. Also one of the Coyotes there for a while was exceptionally pretty.

My attitude is that: the more someone tries to push into doing something in Thailand, the less I am wanting to do it. The people that come at you most aggressively are the ones to avoid, even if they seem to be offering help of any sort. Interact with very sweet polite non-pushy girls only. Shy girls can be a big plus at times, too.

They were probably Mercury Bar ladyboys. Mercury is a Ladyboy Bar right next to the Nana second floor Mandarin and seems to be mistaken for one of the Mandarin bars quite often. Not necessarily by people here, but by visitors I know who go up that escalator and look to the right at the top, see all the ladyboys standing around and automatically assume they are from Mandarin, which is the first sign they see on the way up. The doorways for the second floor Mandarin and Merbury bars are right next to each other.

I cannot say for now but I went their once maybe two years ago and I could clearly spot a few obvious ladyboys. The most disturbing was that they even had guys dressed as girls dancing on the stage. I mean they didn't even put the effort to look like a girl, they did just put girls clothes on. The place wasn't giving a good vibe also as the mamasan was constantly sending me some ugly girls to ask lady drinks.

Please don't be so quick on your conclusion. You're visiting one of the most low-life place of Thailand and want to compare their behaviour to the rest of Thailand? From my experience I would say that most of them are very nice even though they've got a lot of problems in their own life, but you've got to go in places that are not polluted by their low-lifes to experience it.

Once I had the same kind of misadventure as yours but it was in Patong in one of the bars upstairs and it didn't involve ladyboys but some ugly girls instead. It was one of their ping pong show, the show looked like shit and after 5 minutes I was at the desk and wanted to pay my beer and was presented a 1200 baht bill. I wanted to smash their heads, the mamasan, the cashier, their girls. But finally I paid and it served me a good lesson and I was really unhappy with myself for being caught in such a scam. Back then I wouldn't give any tip anywhere I go. But after that experience I realised that I was never supporting the good persons trying to make an honest life but instead I finished by giving a huge amount to some of their most shitty people. From that day I always tip the waiters in restaurant where I'm a regular, the girls in traditional massage places, some of the taxi guys that are friendly and since then my whole experience in Thailand is better.

What you described is about as rough a scam going on in a Thai go-go bar as anything I have heard since the upstairs Patpong bar shakedowns of old (still going on? I hadn't heard). I'm talking about the 1,000 baht note to 100 baht note switcheroo. And as I read it that was apparently pulled by one of the ladyboys, so it might not even have been fully witnessed by anyone else. So how could they back up either side? Of course, if this is a routine scam pulled by the same ladyboy over and over, then everyone in the bar would know what he did.

Now that you are on guard about any and all scams being pulled, I doubt you are ever going to fall for that kind of thing again, especially since you and I would guess anyone else reading your report will avoid DC10 unless they are armed with steely stubborn resolve not to buy more than one LD for one ladyboy at most and have nothing but small baht notes and coins in his pocket to settle the bill on the nose without need of change.
