Medical school is worth a response.

Woodstock Resto / Bar is on the Acquino highway, halfway between Gaisano Mall and the McDo on Montilla Blvd, at corner Ochoa Ave. Its a large place that is filled on the weekends with locals. Live band set / disco music set / repeat nightly. I doubt you will find freelancers there, just lots of locals drinking / dancing. There are some slightly more upscale videoke bars, but you don't find freelancers there either. Not much more in Butuan. On occasion I've been "Pssst!" from a girl on the street in the evening; once near Urios, and once between Robinson's and Dotties. Another time a young cutie (18-19-ish, form-fitting hip-hugger dress) brazenly chatted me up mid-day on the jeepney from that McDo on Montilla, along the highway, to Robinson's; so brazenly that she tried to invite herself into Robinson's with me when I said I was going to meet someone (one of my regulars) for noon tea. I say 'brazen' because she was clearly trying to get me to agree to let her hang around with me, and doing that in the province on a public jeep is a no-no. "Where you stay?" Right there, at Dottie's Hotel. "Ohh so nice hotel.

I wonder if part of the subjective deterioration stems from our own maturation. Many places seem like candy shops when we first experience them, but after some point we realize that life's box of chocolates actually contains a limited variety of flavors. There's a great line delivered by Christopher Plummer in the movie **Hector and the Search for Happiness**, in which he declares that the happiness of pursuit is a more practical undertaking than the pursuit of happiness.

You are absolutely correct. People who complain about things not being what they used to be, are actually trying to recapture their initial experiences. You can't really do that. And there is no need to. They are more mongering destinations than you can shake a stick at.

It was 2 and a half years ago, that I got serious about mongering. It wasn't my first time. I'd lived in Germany, the UK and then in New York and I learned how sex could be bought. But, I was also young and usually found it more appealing to get it for free. That comes from being young. In the aftermath of my divorce and I've never gone to the same mongering destination twice in a row. There are too many new places to try. I first went to visit an old friend living in Berlin, which by chance happened to be the sex capital of Germany (though the FKK enthusiasts on ISG have not figured that out). It was new beginning and an alternative to trying to start dating American women again. Shortly afterwards, I visited Medellin, then later that year I visited Thailand, and then the DR. Last March I mongered in Kuala Lumpur and then onto Bali. Its all been a fun experience, and I've never been disappointed with any of trips, despite a few sub-par providers. It always a new experience when I go somewhere new. There are no previous experiences to compare the adventure to. And its always a thrill to try a different nationality of women, eat different food (except in Colombia), and drink different beers.

So, I am surprised so many guys keep going back to their old haunts, Pattaya, AC or the FKK clubs. What I do notice where disappointment is most often expressed is places like those, with a low-barrier to entry, easy accessible to English speakers and minimal requirements to adhere to local social norms. But, when things are so easy and there is limited risk, you are going to get bored or disappointed. That said, if you are unhappy with your last to AC or anywhere else, I think it pretty obvious what you need to do next.

Any place anywhere has its positives and negatives. Most places have deteriorated over the years, at least subjectively. They are no longer like our memories tell us what they were before.

Baguio has been a retreat from the heat and 3rd worldness for me. I will be back to naughty pleasure in a few days fully recharged.

I think Baguio has slipped dramatically in the past 10 years. It used to be paradise, and is still called Manila's summer capital. Nowadays I find the city center around the park to be noisy and full of jeepney fumes, and as more and more cars appear and they remove more trees to build high rises it will deteriorate further. Some magnificent old trees were ripped out to build the new SM.

I think the deterioration has been happening for much more than ten years. I was guided there 11 years ago by Filipino friends, and they said at the time that the numbers of big pine trees had been reduced dramatically from years past. What struck me were new buildings going up everywhere, including on near impossible building sites on steep hillsides. At the time there were still a few of the old pale yellow wooden military buildings from the old R&R days at John Hay. They had divided them into multiple units and were renting them out as vacation lodging. I would be surprised if they still exist. My photos of them were a big hit at home since my father-in-law (whom I never knew) had been stationed there in medical rehab in the waning days of WWII.

My first time here. Love the clean fresh air, TREES and mountains. Previous outside blogs warned about bad winding roads to Baguio. Not true at all. Took the first class Victory Liner bus for 780 pesos on Labor Day holiday from Manila. 3 hours and 45 minutes later we are there non stop. First class has CR on board.

Try the road to the coast in La Union. Very windy and not at all fun in the dark.

Not much of a bar scene that I could find but lots of women on SA and Tinder. It may take some work but I'd bet you could set up a nice scholarship / live in arrangement with a student.

Staying in hotel in Camp John Hay. Great place and scenery, wouldn't know you were in Philippines! The weather is perfect. Cool in the mid 70's and some rain.

Some people might consider retirement here. I would if I was going to retire in PH. Especially to beat the summer heat and humidity. Only 3 hour or less bus ride to AC.

Camp John Hay is a microcosm of the city and you're right Dg. You wonder if you are still in the Philippines. I go there often for work for 2 or 3 days each time. I enjoy the camp area too and always stay in hotels there but the hotels are full of filipino and korean family groups so breakfast is always a bit of a clusterf*ck.
