I first went to Shanghai in 1998 and used to hang out with a lot of guys who have since come and gone in the original location of the current incarnation of Manhattan which was located on Julu Lu. It used to be a very, very small dive bar along with a bunch of other dive bars on Julu that was managed by a young Lucy, a chick named Angel and of course a bunch of Chinese hookers. During those days I wasn't very interested in picking up hookers in any of those bars because cheap or free fine pieces of ass could be found in almost anyplace around Shanghai including the original Paulaner, Bat's Bar in Pudong and old disco called MGM and a few other places like Judy's on Maoming, DKD etc. Those were the wild and crazy days of Shanghai where the girls were cheap and sometimes just wanted to hookup with a foreigner.
