And paranoid mongers like me will be looking over the shoulders during my next visit. Certainly brings down the wow factor associated with Pattaya.

Police controls in WS are as hilarious as the police raid in Cablanca with Humphrey Bogart running a casino as Rick. The scene is easily found on youtube, just google for Casablanca gambling.
Rick: How can you close me up? On what grounds?
Captain Renault: I'm shocked! Shocked to find that gambling is going on in here.
(a croupier hands Renault a pile of money).
Croupier: Your winnings, sir.
Captain Renault: (sotto voce) Oh, thank you very much.
(aloud).
Captain Renault: Everybody out at once.

If the police ever put their mines to end it themselves they would be the greatest one affected and would they themselves escape their own country?

I landed on these videos at youtube. Though I have been in Pattaya many times without incident, I think I will call it a day. Cops busting hookers and customers, Thais sucker punching dudes and troublesome tourists, time to say goodbye. The corruption, the sun, the beer combine to make the costs outweigh the benefits.
I thought I would post it as, if you cannot enjoy a woman without fearing a police raid, what is the point?

Posts: 303Had this happen to me several times. Only 1 time was intentional and it was a taxi driver. Note swapping and fake notes and short changing are very common in the Latin and south American countries. They make corruption an art. I usually just stare down the guy and go your route. It brings enough attention and trouble that they usually do not want or need. In your case, I think the cashier swapped the note so the count in not off. If the owners are not on site and part of the scam, heads will roll eventually. Happen at several reputable places I know. The establishment was getting ripped off and not so much the customers.

I think you're lucky if the footage clearly shows the denomination you handed over to the waitress.

Posts: 6304Sorry to hear about your issues at Shark Club, wonderer. Really sucks when things like that happen. I have personally been to Shark many times including 3 visits last week and never had an issue with them. I'll certainly be more wary moving forward. I find many gogo bar waitresses will say the denomination you gave them whether it be 1000 or 4000 baht. I'm sure they also learn from their experience of guys giving them 100 baht and later saying they gave the waitress 500 baht. It is good to verbally let the waitress know how much you hand over to them. Scams like this go on everywhere in Thailand and they are counting on the fact that a tourist will not waste an hour of their time sitting in the bar waiting for them to cash out or wasting half a day at the police station. Thanks for TOFTT.

Posts: 6304Here's a photo of Lala. FF and I met her in March, 2016. If she is 20 now hopefully she was 18 in March, 2016. I thought she was 20 or 21 back in 2016.

My local beer bar in USA gives out five ones in change instead of a five dollar billI have mixed feelings about tips, so I decline in this instance. I save it for Chinese massage gals who do more than pull a pint. They massage my smaller brain, which remembers.

I am Caucasian, and I got the price for Thai. So, I assume there is either no special price for Caucasians and they enjoy the same price as Thai, or the soapie girl V2 did not tell me the specific amount.
So, I will always try to go for the Thai price. Knowing about the different prices, we can always ask: "What is the price for Thai men? Then we can agree on that price. It might work better, though, when the place is not too crowded.
Wonderer. Looking forward to the next soapie for the Thai price.

Posts: 301Thanks all for the additional suggestions
Thanks for all your additional suggestions. I think they are all quite valuable, and some might be more practicable while others less.
In the case of the Shark bar, I assume that it was an intentional scam. Some of the things that happened hint in that direction. So, even taking pictures of my 1'000 baht notes wouldn't have helped. They just wouldn't show that note to me.
Hence, I believe the best is really:
(1) To use the smallest possible notes.
(2) To agree with the waitress on the amount you gave to her.
Then, it should be much safer.
At Mr. Enternational: It was not about the money. I invested my time (altogether about 1. 5 hours) since I don't like to be victim of a scam and since I want to make sure to the best possible extent that it doesn't happen anymore, neither to me nor to fellow mongers.
Last, but not least, if you have time you may go to the police station and request that the CCTV is opened. Then it becomes clear.
Wonderer. Wish you all better luck!
