PS. For me Gambia/Sierra Leone perfect combination for November to April. January Carnaval do Bissau. Kenya/Uganda/Rwanda May to October plus some travel to Ethiopia to see the ancient churches and Madagascar to hunt some two legged lemurs. These are my favourites. Further plans to visit DRC and Nigeria.

Posts: 84I had big hopes for Limbe; I think Bradt call it a 'charming colonial town' but it's a sprawling dump.
In Yaounde I visited Bunker bar as recommended in these pages. Beer was 1000 CFA and a waitress gave me her number along with the bill. Just around the corner is Biker's with FLs and beer at 2,500.
In Douala I stayed in Akwa at Beausejour Mirabel and spent most of my time in taxis to & from Bonapriso. Despite its reputation as a party town, St Peres was practically empty on a Sunday night and Orange Metallique doesn't open at all.
And it rained. A lot.
My first trip to Madagascar was brilliant, my second was a disaster. It's all experience. . .

I'm sorry the Cameroons didn't work for you. Still, your travails will not have been in vain. They will incentivate me to give Uganda or Kenya a try. It's probably better you couldn't go to Equatorial Guinea. I was warned about not going there when I was in the Cameroons. It's a country spoilt by the oil industry and paranoid with foreign interference (remember Mark Thatcher). Gabon would have been a better fallback.
Of course, if you skipped Douala and Yaoundé to concentrate on the English-speaking enclaves I'd say your disappointment was not unexpected. I tried Limbé and gave up on it after 2 days.

I pulled the plug on what was supposed to be a 2 month West African trip after 11 days. It just wasn't working out for me plus I booked it months ago when the idea of sitting on a bar stool following the World Cup seemed blissful but I'm actually not that interested in booze or football right now.
My luggage arrived 36 hours after me, there were power cuts, no water and the weather was either swelteringly hot (95% humidity) or pouring hard for hours at a time. Plus the women are too chunky for my taste. It occurred to me one night I could be having a reliably good time somewhere I know rather than searching for one and 48 hours later I was in Kampala.
I inquired about an Equatorial Guinea visa but was told I needed to apply at the Consulate back home. I told them there isn't one in Australia, she said go to the nearest one. I said that would be in China; she shrugged. End of interview.

You can still have a lot of fun in Cameroon, but keep on hunting in discos and hotspots mentioned below. Take care to the dating sites like afrointro, it's full of scamers, and most of girls are looking for a sucker to rip off. Try to target the "second choice" girls on this website, they are often more honest and friendly than the "good looking" ones. Anyways, most of girls in this country are vicious and annoying, you will quickly experience that.
Keep your eyes opened, and have a nice trip!

Me too. There's an equivalent French site to this that makes out that the White God can still strut around in Cameroon. I don't know if the Anglophones are any less frisky than their Francophone cousins. Will let you know.

I'm anxious to know how you say the Cameroons compare to Kenya in terms of mongering.
