Just returned from a recent short trip to Rio. Day 1 was a bust I needed to rest. The only clean-up exception is propably So Paulo.

Good and informative post. But, let me ask you a question. If all the capitals have changed, have they all been impacted to the same extent? I keep hearing good things about Fortaleza. Is it fair to ask if cities not pulling in the tourists will be less impacted by such politics? Most people I know have heard of Rio De Janiero, but would be hard pressed to think of the name of any other city in Brazil. So, I have to wonder if the focus of these house cleaning activities is on Brazil's major tourist destination. Your thoughts, please.

Brazil doesn't miss the dollar from the sex tourists. There are tons of regular tourists coming to Brazil who doesn't look for sex. Just compare the lines of tourists, at Praa do Lido, waiting for the shuttle vans to Corcovado to the few numbers of tourists hanging out at Mabs.

Also, the mongering crowd who still continue going to Rio is very different from what it used to be. The majority of the mongers in Copacabana used to be a younger crowd. Lots of party at the beach, Meia Pataca, Terrao Atlntico and Help. The girls were busy.
I do my best to avoid Mabs, but on my rare visits it seems like the average age on the mongers is well above 50. Old guys sipping their choppes and hardly giving any business to the ladies.

Brazil is in a recession right now. Last year I was in Rio De Janeiro around the Copacabana area. A lot of restaurants were closing or just barely had costumers like they use too. A lot of nice luxury apartments on Airbnb use to be $100-$300 per night. You can now rent them for as little as $40-$60 right now. It seems like after the World Cup and the Olympics everything went down. Even the girls I talk to in the Termas tell me business is very slow. I think they need all the sex tourist dollars they can get. Sex tourism does boost the local economy.

Now as for Help. I think there is a possibility that another Help can re-open. But I think its because Brazil is not a cheap destination like how it was in the 80's,90's and pre 2000's. Back then flights too Brazil were $400-$500 Dollars max. Now flights are starting at $1,000 and depending on where you live sometimes $2,000 and then you have to factor in food, women and a place to stay. You can easily spend $4,000-$5000. Prices like that keep most mongers away. When you go to places like Mabs, or when you visit the termas, I personally do not see too many Gringos like before when I first starting going in 2009,2010. I Think its all supply and demand. If alot of gringos started going to Brazil and start flooding Brazil. You will see places like Mabs flooded with beautiful women as there is a chance for them to make alot of money. When you go to mabs its mostly old guys and there not trying to trick off there retirement check like that.

You're closer to the political climate than most of us.

I suppose we hold out hope something like Scandallo could open up and gain popularity. Perhaps somewhere that is in a less visible part of Rio than Avenida Atlantica. Sao Paulo is not a global tourist destination. I suppose the authorities aren't too concerned about the boates there.

I did notice Help Disco especially after the internet explosion was fairly young. I could call my young buddies and say "hey, do you want to go to a beautiful tropical beach destination where you're 100% sure to get laid every day by hot Latin girls?" Let me ask a question to the more experience members of this forum. Aren't girls offering P4 P services available in places that are not sexually oriented businesses or oriented towards tourists? Is it possible to regularly find casual prostitutes and the odd WG in different clubs and social gatherings where people are necessarily going to pay or receive money for sex? I have said before, all we have to do is pick a nice, big club in the Copa or Ipanema area and say that the club we will all go to when we in town. It will be known as the club where the gringos hangout and the girls will follow.

It's more possible than people realize. As many of us know, Help Disco wasn't opened as a mongering destination, but rather as a regular, civilian nightclub. Very likely, a few hot girls went to Help in the 80's hearing there would be relatively affluent gringos present. They hooked-up and word spread to other girls and other gringoes. You didn't even have the internet spread the word. It's amazing how something like Help could develop before the internet. The internet finally drove Help's last and peak years.
