I got fingerprinted at the airport too. Don't think it's a big deal. But the picture taking at the hotel is what worries me. I had mine taken recently when I stayed at a hotel in the Sonjiang area. It seems like overkill.

I was there in April as well. I did not have the same treatment. Although it was early April. I will be there in SH in a couple of weeks and will see if things have changed.

We might need to be careful and watch the overall public atmosphere, things can quickly be manipulated here, say LE looking to nab foreign punters.

    Just wondering.

    Stay safe.
Average Chinese not even aware there is a trade dispute going on. And if aware, they don't seem to care that much.

I just spent 5 weeks in China and I encountered no hostility. My wife is Chinese and we stayed mostly with friends or relatives of hers. But even out in in the public when inquiring strangers asked her where I was from we did not encounter hostility. Some questioned me about what was happening. My sense that the Chinese, like their government view things from the long term. In the long term none of this will matter. China has other sources for pork, beef, dairy, corn and soybeans. I feel sorry for the midwestern farmers who have lost some business. In China, some manufacturing is already moving to other countries as incomes rise and the service sector evolves.

I did have occasional chances to monger while there and the working girls showed no signs that my money was not worth ignoring over a trade dispute.

The "crackdown" permeates many aspects of daily life in China for "foreigners" and locals. From the airport arrival to departure, the government is watching closely, reining in overt "excess" like golf and designer brands, etc. It is not so much economic austerity (they just re-opened the floodgates on domestic credit) as it is social austerity and compliance enforcement. Witness the tax action against Fan and the Chief of Interpol (now former)! Whether this campaign by the "fun police" will last or be a phase that human lust and greed finally pierce, time will tell. As of now, it ain't fun.

In short, I don't do it anymore because it is a pain in the ass, and there is also the usual drama that often comes with any mistress or GF. Otherwise, just go to fancy bars and pick up a girl, or just ask out a girl that you already know and like. I also did this, mostly when I first moved to China many years ago. Just make sure they know you are married. Er nai (mistress) is common in China. When I first moved to China, it was weird having so many GFs. But I guess these Chinese girls are used to guys (with some money) having many GFs and mistresses. And many like to be those gals. But, keep in mind that the usual hassles of having either a mistress or a GF also applies to Chinese girls, obviously. Finally, you might also try MPs. I am pretty friendly with a few MP gals, and I have discussed mistress arrangements with them, and I am still thinking about it. Despite the drama that I have experienced with mistresses and GFs in the past, I am wondering if my being an anonymous John to my mistress may make things turn out better, but still contemplating it.
    Midwestern,

Thank you very much for sharing your experiences. In my city, which is Wenzhou, I haven't found any thing, so I figured it would be better to get a mistress so that I have something to fall back on.

Judging by the way these ladies were dressed, it's pretty clear that there was more than a back rub on offer. I didn't have time to confirm this, but I have to say, it's been a couple of years at least since I've seen such open advertising anywhere in Shanghai. Could things finally be lightening up?
Based on my visits to random MPs for past 6-7 months, I would say that roughly two-thirds of MP places offer more than back rub. If you want to up the odds, when you walk into an MP, just ask for a pretty girl. They will get the message. One time, the manager understood my meaning and took me aside and told me there was no happy massage at their place, and so I walked out. Another way to up the odds is to pick the most expensive massage on the menu. One time, I picked the 336 option, and the mamasan whispered to me that I probably want the 398 off-menu option, and, well, I am glad that I took her suggestion.

    Not so

I guess YMMV. I pulled a girl from Judy's last night at 9:15 and paid 2000 for overnight.

By the way, for those who say that it doesn't get rolling at Judy's until midnight or 2, that just isn't so. I routinely go at a bit after 9:00. Last night there were at least 20 or so to choose from.

Gladly also alternatives. No sauna, KTV etc.

    Thanks for your information.
    Hi Benji.

I live in Shanghai since 10 years. If you have been to J&M more than 2 years ago, then be prepared for the following changes:

    * under 2000/ LT the ladies will ignore you, at least till 3 am.

    * the old party times are gone. Since the Vietnamese took over, step by step J&M became pure contact locations; it is all about "how much" and immediate "you take me hotel?"

    * the majority of men now are Chinese as their other fun places have been closed down (by the way: they are the reason for the increased pricing).

I personally go there very rarely now (while it was my center of enjoyment a few years ago). The good times are gone.

    Cheers, Shamuc.
