It would be nice to gauge all prices on a currency crisis. Unfortunately that didn't last long in Indonesia. It started in early 1998 and by the time I arrived in October of 1998 the rate was 6600 to 1 (and girls were 200 k at blok m at that time).

Venezuela has a crisis going on now though. It's surprising people aren't flocking from Thailand to Venezuela to get the cheap deals.

For Jakarta, if you go all the way back to when it was 100 k, the exchange rate at that time was 2500 to 1. Now it's 14500 to 1 (almost 6 times better exchange rate). If you multiply that 100 k by 5 or 6, you will get the actual comparison. So it equates to about 500 or 600 k now. The going rate is about 1000 k now, so prices have about doubled since then. They have gone up more than that in Thailand.

Indonesia is cheaper than Thailand because of that exchange rate. 14,500 to 1 is a fantastic rate. When I first came to Thailand in 1999, the rate was 47 to 1 for the THB. It is now a worse rate than that, so not only have prices increased, but the rate have gotten worse. I find Thailand to be pretty expensive these days, but I still like it.

The intent of my post was that the spread of prices, fresh to hardened girls, had widened along with the absolute price increases.

For a resident expat, though, Thailand is a shadow of its former self. The sex scene is getting worse every month, we're scraping the bottom of the barrel of Thai women in terms of looks. Even if it's still technically better than other places, the taste of disappointment is difficult to wash away. So rather than waste time (time is money) and valuable jism I prefer places like Emporium, a mid level bordello, where you can find attractive girls and a more consistent high level of service. Prices start at Emporium at 900,000 idr (2000 baht) for regular girls and then go up to 1,200,000 idr (2700 baht) for the VIP girls. I wish I could report differently, but on every one of my visits the cute girls were in the VIP section and I noticed that most of the Indonesian customers felt the same way. As I posted earlier 3 of my 4 VIP Emporium girls were memorable and absolutely repeat worthy. Sadly, I only repeated with one of them.

Top end Malio Club and Malioboro Lounge have couch girls too, some of whom are very attractive. Over the years I have had some great sessions with these girls and only 1 mediocre session that I can recall. That is a high level of consistency. Malio & Malioboro prices start at 900,000 idr (2000 baht), then 1,100,000 idr (2500 baht) for preferred Indonesian couch girls, then rise to 1,700,000 idr (3800 baht) for Malioboro dancers, 2,000,000 idr (4500 baht) for some Malio Dancers to 3,000,000 idr (6800 baht) for other Malio Dancers. I have left out the Imports which are priced at 2,200,000 idr (5000 baht). While in Jakarta I took a sexy, Asiatic looking, Kazak Malioboro girl upstairs one night and had a great time with her.

My conclusion is Jakarta prices are very similar to BKK prices. One might think there is higher quality of girls and service in Jakarta.

Natty, from your posting on prices, Jakarta is still cheaper than BKK for the quality. GoGo gal is going to want 3 k ST and BF will be 1 k, add in drinks, ST hotel, and you are in excess of the 4500 you would spend on a "top-end" gal at Malio or 'Boro. Also BKK lacks the middle. Many of the old hags at the Beergarden are crowing for 2 k now. Gals in Thermae want 3 k and it is sometimes tough to get them down to 2. 5. SW and Tulip are great for performance, but yesh, looks are well below par. Also, seems gals in Jakarta are less likely to have a kid. You could also say the same for most of the 141 gals in HK. So you do tend to get better looking gals in those two cities than you do in BKK for the same money.

I am going there early December so I think now is a bit too soon to start getting connections. I was just in HK, Macau, Singapore, CGK and BKK. The Wanchai bar scene was dreadful comprised of amazingly low quality, fat, past their prime import girls (mostly Pinays) hoping for large money deposits. I found the Chinese 141 girly scene much better, although quality was far from cheap ie slightly more expensive at every price point than the BKK escort scene.

Great comparison post, it's an interesting topic. Wanchai bars are a dying scene for expats set in their western ways. Sex with streetwalkers can be had in Hong Kong for as low as 200 HKD which is 850 baht (though more typically 300 HKD), and yes, that's 2018 prices. There are quite a few along Temple St market and Shanghai St. The sessions are in nearby buildings (often cramped and run down, but HK rooms are expensive) and the service is most often basic, but with a bit of chemistry it could be surprisingly decent (for me, it's about 50:50 chance of basic vs good). As for 141's, while HK island is expensive (600 HKD), in areas such as Sham Shui Po, you can easily find 141's for 400 HKD or so, a great value considering other prices in the city.

As for Jakarta: I really like Jakarta girls and its nightlife, but again quality does come at a significant price.

Jakarta has a few widely scattered sex venues, but I just can't bring myself to 1-2 million IDR on a wham-bam within mafia-controlled premises (like at Malio or former Alexis). In Indonesia, a million IDR is a huge amount of money, more than the weekly earnings for the majority of the locals. Sure, the girls might be good looking, but service and attitude is too inconsistent for the price. Moreover, the places are too obviously mafia-run and tightly controlled, and the girl is processing 5-15 sausages per day, so the chance of any semi-genuine connection or even convincingly faked good vibes is way lower than in Bangkok, where girls are mostly free, and get less mileage. Even if you magically liked each other, she's not going to go to your hotel or stick around for longer than the venue times the session. That type of thing is fine for 400 k IDR (1000 baht) in Travel or Classic (though service is abysmal), but for me, not ok for 3-5 times the money.

I haven't been to Macau, but I think the market is anomalous due to gambling. The customers there are extremely price elastic and don't give a shit on how much money they burn, as long as they're having a good time. After burning a $10 k for nothing (gambling it away, for the thrillz), dropping $300-$500 for a fuck seems like a great value. Other scenes, especially those geared mainly towards the locals, are usually way more price sensitive.

Not in the local, low-end and midrange scenes. You can easily get laid in HK for 200-400 HKD (800-1600 baht), in KL for 50-200 MYR (400-1500 baht), in Jakarta for 400 IDR (900 baht). Bangkok does not compare favorably at all.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. For a casual visitor, Bangkok or Pattaya are better sex scenes than almost all other cities in Asia, due to accessibility, the type and variety of venues, the quality of service as well as the general atmosphere (freedom of choice, not being stuck in some mafia-run meet market or very seedy local-only spot). Sadly, this is true despite Thailand sex scene being much worse than 10 years ago, with prices 2-3 times higher, far worse selection and lower fun factor. Maybe, sometimes, once in a while. The problem I have with Travel & Classic is once you find a good looking gal you still don't know what kind of service you are going to receive in the room. It is a crap shoot therefor consistency of decent service is a real problem in these two establishments.

I won't mention (ha ha) what a session with a Malio Club dancer goes for nowadays, but it is comparable in price to sideline La Belle girls in BKK although I do think the quality is higher in Malio. Of course Malio couch girls cost significantly less than the dancers as do the girls at the Emporium Hotel and other bordellos catering, as you point out, to mostly local customers. The price at most high level to medium level Jakarta bordellos ranges from slightly more than to slightly less than the price at oily massage parlors in BKK. Again, I think the quality is higher in Jakarta and on most nights I was the only farang in these establishments. But I do not like the cheap scene in Jakarta. Quality of service as well as girl quality is a major problem in the cheap, cheap places. You get what you pay for was never more true than in the Jakarta nightlife scene.

Lastly, and I only mention this because this scene is comprised of mostly Chinese, albeit, non local customers, Macau: where prices are the highest in Asia. Up 35% from 2016 when I was last there and yet the top saunas had no lack of price elastic customers. Kind of makes me think there is no limit to how high prices will eventually go in BKK or Jakarta not to mention Pattaya or Phnom Penh and AC.

My point to you is prices are up everywhere in major Asian metropolitan destinations and despite my strong positive feelings for Jakarta girls, I still find BKK to be overall a better place to punt long term. Feel free to disagree with me, but if I were to choose anywhere to live in metropolitan Asia, it would still be BKK. I think I would be very unhappy living full time in Jakarta unless I had a great, high paying job with an expense account. The only reason I will ever go back to HK is to catch the shortest duration flight back to east coast USA. Even Singapore is better than HK in terms of nightlife possibilities IMHO.
