Each time I return to Jakarta I tell myself I won't bother visiting Kartika massage as it's it getting old and tired and the woman are mostly overweight, old and unattractive. I first went there many years and have some great memories as well as great experiences there. The truth is that the women there can really service you well if you pick the right one.

On my recent visit to Jakarta I had a free afternoon and thought I'd grab a massage just after 1:00 PM. The full naked body water slide massage offered at Kartika came to mind so I headed up there from my hotel. Only 10 minutes away. Before I entered the lane where Kartika is located I stopped to buy a snack for lunch at the Suisse bakery at the front on the main road. I recognized one of my past ladies from Kartika buying food so I introduced myself to her and called her by her name. She remembered me from my last visit there just over a year ago and said she was about to start her shift. I said I'd be down in a short time and request her for massage.

It was fortunate I thought, she was nice and fresh starting her shift so I entered Kartika and immediately took her upstairs. Paid Rp370 K upfront.

She gave me really good service in all aspects. Very friendly, chatty in a good way and her performance was excellent.

I'd guess she is late 20's, tall. About 165 cm, not overweight at all. She was not unattractive but wasn't gorgeous either.

I tipped her well and once again the thought crossed my mind, would I return to this old and tired place? Probably yes. I can't help myself!

Well even in Thailand things are changing soon as India is in booming stage and more men from the second populous country venturing first time.

How is that going to change things? The ones coming for the first time are the worst ones.

(3) Is it a good idea to tip the Mamasan as soon as you enter (to keep her away)? If yes, is 100 K a "decent" tip OR is it too high/low?

100 k would be a huge tip for a mamasan. I would only give them that much if they somehow just pulled the catch of the century for me and I had not seen her until the mamasan brought her over. I find that it's not necessary to ever tip a mamasan in Jakarta. I tip them sometimes in Bangkok, but I don't do it in Jakarta. However, I do tip the girls at the massage places (where you can't see the girls, just pick numbers )at times who work the front desk and suggest good numbers for me. I tell them if they give me a really good girl, I will give them a 50k tip. It doesn't always work, but many times it does. The times I don't tell them I will give them a tip, the chances of them picking a good one for me are slight. I give them the tip after the session, not before, because the girl has to be good all around or they don't get the tip.

I visited Classic Terminal 2 on a Thursday at around 4. 30 pm No entry fee although I saw the ladies at the entrance / reception change a fee to the three Chinese men who were in front of me. I was not allowed to take my bottle of water. I was given a wrist band.

Inside, there were five mamasans but three groups of girls wearing green, red and grey dress. There were a total of around twenty girls. One mamasan wanted to offer me a green dressed girl. So she called two girls but wanted me to take both. I told her to wait to allow me to make my mind. The girls return to their seats.

Another mamasan called three different red dressed girls. Again, I let her know that I will call her as soon as a girl pleases me.

Non of the mamasan bothered me for another ten minutes. Then I saw a thin tall girl wearing red dress. I just waived one mamasan. It was not her girl. So, the mamasan called the right mamasan who called the girl. Her name was Sella.

I paid the usual IDR 365,000. 00.

We went downstairs where we were guided by two hostesses and another two stewards.

Usual routine: I showered but she came in to clean me. She showered. Then we did it in different positions. No kissing. She put listerine on some tissue paper to clean my nipples and penis before sucking. I didn't try DATY although there was no bad smell. She cooperated nicely. I came when she was doing cowboy. After the deed she cleaned me. I showered then she showered. We got dressed and walked upstairs together. She asked for a tip. I gave her IDR 50,000. 00. But I gave her the tip. No word exchanged.

I then went to the cashier who removed the wrist band and gave me a receipt to be shown at the entrance. I collected my water bottle which was still there and left. Overall a nice experience but not extraordinary. There are better options outside.

(1) I am puzzled about the role of these Mamasans. In other words, we can (and do) select our own girls. It is our choice, not the Mamasans.
Why have them in the first place? For those familiar with Thermae in Bangkok, there are NO Mamasans, and it works great.

(2) Just curious, how the Mamasan is compensated? Do they earn a fixed % from what the girl earns?
If they earn a commission from the girls earnings, then it explains their aggression.

(3) Is it a good idea to tip the Mamasan as soon as you enter (to keep her away)? If yes, is 100 K a "decent" tip OR is it too high/low? As already covered here.

It is not a good idea to tip the mama's. Unless they are providing you with some kind of value. Constantly pestering you with girls is not providing any value and a sharp "Itu saya yang pilih, bukan kamu" "It is me that chooses, not you" will slow them down but some can be persistent. Once they know you they will be better but if you are new they will try it on.

The mamas get a portion of the fee. Of the cost of a girl at Classic, she would get 150 000, the Mama not sure but think 10 or 20,000, it isn't that much. 50 000 is at the lower end of the scale as far as tips go to the girls but if it is CBJ then they really can't be expecting much more.

A good mama can look after you, but it takes a while for them to know you. The only other thing OS will not stand is the mamas forcing a girl who clearly does not want to session with you to do so.

I always tell the girl I just finished and will take her later but I think the girls have heard that a million times so it doesn't matter if it's the truth. Usually by the time I'm ready again in 30 minutes the girl I wanted is long gone and I usually find another girl before the one I wanted returns.

What I don't like is when I have a girl sitting with me that I have already said no to and am pondering what else I can find but she still remains there (by my side) for whatever reason and I see a mamasan taking a really attractive girl to another table close by. I'm thinking " bring that one over here!" But it's too late and the lucky guy puts his arm around her and claims his prize! LOL.

The mamasans in the Classic will bring a girl to you. Even if you don't want one they will still bring them over, one by one. You can try a "no thank you" but they still persist. I don't really mind but it's just an awkward feeling when you keep rejecting young women the mamasans keep insisting you take from them. Usually they get the hint and leave you alone after several rejections so you can do you own browsing if you wish. However if you give the mamasan a description of what you want you may get lucky and she brings the exact girl over without having the difficult task of searching for the right one through the darkness of the place.

Often as I was sitting at my table I was impressed with some of the girl choices the mamasans would bring to neighboring tables, sometimes they were rejected but mostly they were accepted by the punter sitting there.

The mamasans are just doing their job I presume. They are pushy as the pushy ones often get the business.

I have never tipped a mamasan and probably never will particularly in the Classic, however once I hooked up with a younger mamasan from the Malio lounge and we had dinner, karaoke and back to my hotel for FS. It was a good night however she expected something like 3 Million RP payment afterwards. I gave her some money but nothing like she asked.

A place like Classic or Travel have 10-15 mamasans working on a busy night. Will cost you 1. 5 million to keep them all away!

The mamasans are bothersome until they get to know you. Don't be a pushover in these bars. After a week some will leave you alone and some will be your best friends. AFAIK, each girl is attached to a mamasan. If a mamasan doesn't work neither does the girl. Read what you want into that I'm not saying it. AFAIK the 365 k is split 3 ways between the bar, mamasan, and the girl. In fact, it could be the girl gets less than 1/3. That's why if I have a good girl I tip her 100 or 200 k. Never tip the mamasan she already makes enough and she will never leave you alone if you tip her. Classic and Travel are so dark that these mamasans can actually be helpful pulling a girl sitting in some dark corner. Happened with me at Classic. I have a favorite mamasan at Classic. I just hang out with her and her girls. Never given her any business but she helps protect me from annoying mamas with a bad group of girls. Smoothy can correct me on any of this. This is just hearsay from my nearly 2 months in Jakarta so far this year.

I visited terminal 2 on a Friday evening around 11:00 PM after a massage in the basement spa. It was very busy.

As I entered the room I knew if I stood there like a rabbit in the headlights I would be pounced on by the aggressive mamasans so I briskly walked to the left (for no reason, I could have gone to the right) and searched in the dark smoke filled room for an empty table. It took a while but I found one against a pole and grabbed a stool. I hadn't even sat down when a mamasan shoved her hand out to me to introduce her services. I ignored her and caught the attention of a waitress nearby and ordered a beer. The mamasan didn't give up and kept telling me she can get me a girl. I wasn't even sure if I wanted one as I had just had a massage with happy ending not long ago so I kept ignoring her.

My beer arrived and it was not very cold. I forgot that had happened to me before at the Classic and I should have asked to feel the bottle before they opened it. The waitress suggested to add ice to the beer if it wasn't cold enough. I declined her offer. I drank the beer quickly and ordered another one. By this time a girl was standing next to me that the mamasan had brought over. At this stage my eyes had adjusted to the dark and I glanced briefly at the girl she brought to the table. She was really cute, early 20's and nice body. I was pleasantly surprised and starting chatting with her. She seemed enthusiastic and had a great attitude. She was an excellent choice. The first one I looked at.

I drank the second beer. Another one that was not really cold then I rejected an offer of two girls instead of this one. Been there done that. Wasn't a great experience.

She took me to a room downstairs, undressed and showered then we got into it.

The session was mostly good. She gave me CBJ which is the norm for me at the Classic but when I tried to DATY she giggled and said it tickled her. I tried to persuade her but she insisted she didn't want it.

We finished up just on the hour and after we got dressed I gave her a 50 K tip. She asked for more and I said if she had let me do DATY on her I would have doubled the tip. She frowned and didn't speak to me at all after that as we walked back upstairs to the main room. Her loss. I watched her cute body from behind walk off into a room just behind the cash registers. She was really sweet. I paid my bill and left.

Terminal 5 would be my next port of call the following day.

I think you will find that Indians are treated better wherever people have had less exposure to Indians. Don't be fooled though, the average perception of Indians in Indonesia is negative. However, there is not the disdain you will find in Thailand. But as long as you treat the girls well, word will spread.

Want to say I like Jakarta more than Pattaya simply for the way Indians are treated.

I think you will find that Indians are treated better wherever people have had less exposure to Indians. Don't be fooled though, the average perception of Indians in Indonesia is negative. However, there is not the disdain you will find in Thailand. But as long as you treat the girls well, word will spread.
