I was looking at prices in the low season for next year. SFO or LAX to Manila is running in the low $600's USD for round-trip.

SQ regularly runs special fares out of EWR, IAH, LAX, & SGO, and likely starting next years out of SEA, to various Asian destinations, including MNL. Usually requiring a stop in NRT, FRA, DME, or ICN. But, it's hard to beat service on SQ, even in Economy.

I get a daily travel allowance of AUD190 or P7,220.

I plan to be in AC early next year. On my return trip, I am scheduled to leave MNL airport at 9:40 am, for an international departure. I am wondering at what time I should leave my hotel in AC. I would appreciate any hints from experienced mongers.

My experience from past travels is not very good. This past January, It took me 4 hours get from AC to my hotel in Makati, in a private taxi, on a Saturday afternoon.

It depends on what day you are going. Generally speaking, travel time will take you about 1. 5 hours through Roxas Boulevard and Macapagal Ave and into the new express ramp that leads to the airport to avoid the traffic at EDSA. I usually stay in Ermita area the night before my flight so I won't rush and still enjoy a good morning shag.

There's an interesting discussion on the Thailand board about feeling down during a mongering trip. This is very common and I think its due to a number of reasons:

I personally don't like the stress of getting up early in the morning and driving for hours whether by car or bus to catch my flight. Several years ago was the last time I went by car on a Sunday afternoon to NAIA to catch a flight home. I had figured 3 hours driving time was plenty to allow for Sunday afternoon and I would be there 3 hours prior to flight time. It took over 5 hours driving and I barely made the cutoff time for baggage check in. 5 minutes later and I was watching people unload clothes into clear plastic airline bags to carry on the flight.

I travel a day or two before my flight to Manila and book a hotel in Pasay or Makati. I have a proven AC girl come with me or meet me in Manila for a pleasurable last night there. There are plenty of girls who are happy to travel to or meet me in Manila. I take care of the transportation and pay them the normal barfine amount. But it is advisable that you leave AC one day before and stay in a hotel near Mall of Asia or Malate / Ermita so that you don't miss you flight. How long is a piece of string?

Depends on the day and time of your flight IMHO. I have done it in just over 2 hours but that was a quiet Sunday. I have done it on a Friday afternoon and that was just impossibly slow. If you assume you need to be at NAIA 2 hrs before the flight so 745 am then you leave mid morning (early) latest.

I am one to be at the airport early regardless of how good or bad the facilities there are. So I would allow 3 hrs at that time of day and leave around 430 am (latest).

Others will have differing experiences for sure so take all into account before making up your mind as much depends on the day.
