I was in Zona yesterday. No problems. Only more CBP staff and more barbed wires. I like "pedeast" border crossing (San Ysidro trolley station). I park my car at the trolley station in Chula Vista and take the trolley to the border and taxi to Zona. Very easy. Traffic near the border (on the US side) can be crazy and chaotic and parking $ 25-30/8 hrs.

I was in Tijuana Saturday and Sunday, the city was packed Saturday night, holiday parties. No issues, but you still need to be careful Crime is on the rise.

Yes, most definitely. All the 2000+ putas of different hometowns that work in the Zona hold meetings to decide on a specific date in which they all will leave for Christmas vacation via plane, car, bus, train, boat, etc.

Does anyone have any opinions on whether it is sufficiently safe to travel to Tijuana next week, or sometime in next five weeks? I am trying to decide if I'm going to go to get rid of my V card and it would have to be now or never in spite of the Honduran immigration issue, tear gas, and border closure.

I was hoping to find out what people's thoughts were, whether firsthand or if they had done research. Tips, tricks, ways to avoid the hassle, if one border crossing is better than the others, etc. Thanks in advance, I really appreciate your help!

It's perfectly safe. Follow rules from other lists. Taxi, don't leave the alley. Wait until mid / late January and l will show you around.

You should have no problems visiting Tijuana. The migrant caravan people will most likely not be a problem. Although I would check the news for any potential attempts to rush the border. By now the migrants realize that the border patrol and Mexican police will use tear gas other means to stop them if necessary. I suggest using Pedwest to cross the border if you walking across. My employer is putting me in Tijuana next week to support an audit by a US federal agency. As of today the audit is still planned as scheduled. I would think that the government has sufficient intel to know what's going on and would prevent one of their federal employees from going there if they anticipated a problem. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. And of course you know this means at least a few spicy reports should be coming up soon.

I noticed that some people were becoming numb to the violence awhile back when all the ratero muggings were taking place in the Zona awhile back. Hopefully Mexico's new president can help curb the crime and violence in Mexico.

In addition to newly printed health cards, all of them ae required on the street to wear identifying headbands declaring whether they are from Honduras, El Savadore or Guatemala, or simply a "Trump Criminal" that tagged along for the ride.
