I often when I bored surf through this site just to pass time but this year for my birthday in may I'm finally going to Sosua. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I will also be digging through the post to find some. Any body else going down there for memorial weekend.

The reason I asked was that your graph showed the US dollar riding high for the last few years, within a couple of pesos of 50, while the other post listed a a range from 47 to 42 in 2017. A contradiction there that I was trying to reconcile.

He reported on every July. Appears that was not the month to go. The exchange rate took a big dip down to 47.14 (year's low) that month last year then went right back up.

The high for the Canadian dollar over the last 5 years has been 40.93 (2014). The high for the US dollar over the same period is 50.86 (last month).

It may sound petty, but short of readers looking it up, does this apply to the US or CDN dollar?

Somebody mention about the change in the peso the past few year. Since 2000 p has been the night time rate for at least the past 5 years for now short time. Use to be for long time 6-8 years ago. Thought I would use currency graph on my phone for rate to the dollar.

July 2013 - 42.25 2000 p = $47.33.

July 2014 - 43.80 2000 p = $45.67.

July 2015 - 45.30 2000 p = $44.15.

July 2016 - 46.10 2000 p = $43.38.

July 2017 - 47.00 2000 p = $42.55.

July 2018 - 49.90 2000 p = $40.08.

Prices wise it has gotten better for us. Now quality and personality that is debatable if we are getting a better deal.

That may be. I haven't been to Sosua in about 10 years. If the church was there back then it must not have been active enough to affect my sleep.

For many years I was a frequent visitor to Sosua. I always stayed at the Europa and would often do a monthly rental there. The noise level varies based on where your room is located. Avoid rooms on the left side of the hotel and get one in the back on one of the upper floors. Rooms on the right side towards the back should be OK too.

But that church is back there and that is more noise than anything.

The math works if you can get Chicas you're happy with for 2000 pesos or less. It can be done. Especially if you're in shape and speak some Spanish. But many Chicas in Merengue and classico will want 2500 or more. I just came home from a 2 wk trip. I managed not to pay more tahn 2 k and had a blast. But I have contacts and my Spanish is decent. I'm not bragging, just saying. I simply walked away from chicas who wanted more. Anyway I can't wait to get back! Happy travels and peace to all!

Once the police were involved, it could've been much worse. Recently, a colleague of mine had to pay over $500 to avoid more severe consequences. After sex, a chica asked for money over and above the agreed amount. When he wouldn't pay her the higher amount, she contacted her English-speaking "uncle" and the tourist police. The chica claimed that her cedula was fake and that she wasn't of age.

Obviously, this was an extortion scam. While this gambit is common is the Philippines, it's almost unheard of in Sosua--until recently.

I have been going to Angeles City Philippines for almost 20 years. I am currently on the PIatNight.com board. Sort of like this board. 500 guys who post a lot.

Until three years ago that scam was happening at least once a week. The police were in on the scam. Even sending out a certain girls who looked 23 but was under 18 a bunch of times. But they picked the wrong guy. It turned out he was staying at the most expensive hotel whose owners of hotel had big time political connection. The whole scam was stopped. The police chief of the station and a bunch of cops were transferred out of the city. Not saying the scam does not happen. But it has been curtailed big time. Most of Angeles City girl three years ago worked in the bars supervised by a mamasan. Their were probably 100 freelancer hanging out in the area. That where most of the guys were getting caught with free lancers. Not that much internet in Angeles. Disco just started.

But now with internet, disco, freelancer in the street. Still have at least 2000 working in the bars with mamasan. But the other girls I have not heard about setups for younger age. But if you think she is under 18. She probably is. Let her go. A national ID card was just passes by their Congress. It will take a few years to issue.

I can't speak about Manila, Cebu and other cities. But you do not want spend time in Philippine jails. Or pay $500 to $2000 to get out. Also all the cops get their cut. So the longer you take to settle your problem. The higher the cost to bail out.

Still undecided on lodging, but believe I have narrowed it down to Hotel Europa or Casa Valeria. Can anyone with experience at either hotel share their opinion? I am a light sleeper so I ideally would like a hotel that has quieter rooms.

At least with me, Diego would always let me change rooms if I had any issues with the one I was staying in. Not sure if he owns that hotel anymore though.

1. For the extra one or two hundred dollars depending on where in the United States. If money is problem take the bus. But remember. If you go the to Santo Domingo you probably will spend the night in the hotel by yourself. Why not just stay another night in Sosua. Plus you have the two hour bus ride Plus saving the hassle of going from bus station to hotel in Sosua and Santo Domingo. Hotels have safes in room. First thing to do when getting in room. Lock up wallet and phone.

2. Hotel are up to you with price and quality. But you want a hotel close to the action. So do not know where AirbnB will be. While the hotels are close to the action.

3. You do not need to know any Spanish. 95% of the girls speak enough English to get what you want. If the girl does not speak English, just move on to another girl. All you restaurant employees and most hotel workers speak English. If they don't speak English the next person will.
