Been to BKK about a dozen times over the last 20 years. Here are a few notes from a recent trip.

Eden Club: Chose Pim with big toothy smile. She offered the most eye contact. Usually a good sign. She also was reasonably attractive, which can be rare at Eden Club. So I spent part of the afternoon walking up and down lower Sukhumvit asking for prices for Cialis at pharmacies.

The highest price I found was Southeast Pharmacy, which had only the original branded Cialis for 4500 be for 4 tablets of 5 MG.

The lowest price I found was JS Pharmacy on Soi 11 (on the right hand side as you are walking from Sukhumvit). It is located right next to the Ambassador Hotel. They had generic "Apcalis" from India for 600 be for 4 tablets of 20 MG. I bought a pill cutter from them for 120 be so that I can cut the pills into 5 MG pieces. That works out to about $1 for 5 MG.

Seemed reasonable to me and not worth the trip over to Chulq Phesaj pharmacy to find something even cheaper.

That is a notoriously terrible method for conducting a survey of this kind. In addition, I have read they offered money to the recruiters, the recruited and to provide free medical care for them. These incentives will naturally skew the results WAY above what one would encounter in a true random sampling survey. For starters, the paid recruiters are inclined to seek out known fellow HIV sufferers they've met in HIV treatment clinics, hospitals, support groups and so on. Maybe even in their needle sharing meet ups. They obviously were not going to wander around Sukhumvit and Soi 4, clip board in hand, tapping random freelancers on the shoulder to do their paid job of finding HIV-positive respondents.

The agreeable respondents might not even be freelance sex workers per se but will only say so in order to get the money and the free treatment on offer. Which is convenient since they were not supposed to be recruiting go-go bar girls, beer bar girls, massage shop girls, BJ Bar girls or any other girls working in established venues meant for exchanging sex for money where their profession as "sex workers" essentially would or could be verified by a third party.

uh, one might rightly conclude the pollsters wanted there to be an "Unexpectedly high HIV prevalence" result in their survey in order to trigger some kind of governmental funding for more and more surveys and treatment action. That sure beats disbanding the whole money-generating operation for lack of any notably alarming results.

Not true. Myanmar rates (0. 80% in 2016) are not that far behind Thailand (1. 1% in 2016) for percentage of the population. African nations of course have far higher rates of HIV (Swaziland 27%, south Africa 18.9% and even Jamaica is higher. Surprising since I imagine prevalence of hookers in Myanmar may be a lot lower.
